Chapter 104
Eclipse
I linked him after I pulled out, and there was a silence that could swallow you whole it was so awkward. I really didn’t have anything else to say to the child that would make my pup cry, and she probably had only honeyed words because now the pack was slowly catching onto what she was doing.
/Kaiden, I also want a meeting with the teachers in the office tomorrow morning at the school./ I linked. I would share words with them as well, because they should have noticed something. What if they tried to beat her up? She would probably kill them by accident… she was sweet, not weak by any means.
“Thank you…” Said Jesse when I got out the car with her and parked. I wanted to talk to Lilly, I hadn’t heard from her in a few days, and I wanted to check on her. We were friends, and she usually called me at least once a day, but she hadn’t lately.
She was watching the pups while she sat on the couch, looking lonely, but carried a small smile. She still held herself as a Luna, though in a respectful way. Never once had she ever tried to say or do anything that would cause trouble. If anything, I looked to her for advice.
I went into the fridge and got out some burritos to heat up. She looked like she hadn’t eaten today, and I worried for her health. She was mateless, but lately, Warrior McDaniel had taken a light to her since his mate had rejected him on the terms that she already had a mark mate and pups. He would always mope until he saw Lilly. He was assigned to be her personal bodyguard around that same time now that I think about it.
He was a burly man who was covered head to toe in tattoos. Even his fingers. He also had a bright red mohawk. His lime green eyes always seemed to glint with a bit of happiness around her.
“Hi Lilly.” I said to her. She didn’t seem to notice me. She was probably thinking of her mate.
“Sorry my Luna… Alpha isn’t around is he?” She said with worry. She was scared of Kaiden even after all these years. She always felt that he would kill her if she overstepped.
“No just me…. also, I made you something.” I got up and got the burritos out the microwave and gave them to her. It wasn’t much, especially since she was well over a thousand years old, but it was better than nothing. Wolves this old usually don’t like human food.
“I’m not hungry…. But I will try for your sake Luna.” She said. Her eyes were her wolf’s and she ate it all slowly, but she still seemed sad.
“I know it hurts… but why don’t you get a mark mate?” I blurt. Warrior McDaniel’s eyes lit up, and he seemed intent on listening to the conversation.
“I couldn’t… Wade would-” I cut her off.
“He’s been dead for years…” I mumble quietly.
I knew if he broke my leg like that without hesitation… he probably didn’t treat his mate right either…
She subconsciously grabbed her arms. In the glimmer of the light, I noticed lines on her skin. There were large claw marks, A male left that on her.
“My lady would you like to retire to your room?” Asked Warrior McDaniel. She nodded, and I felt bad that I said anything, but it was better to break the illusion of a clouded mind, than let her keep wishing to be in the arms of the man who made her live in fear. Darrick came down with a cup of tea, as his mother was going up.
“Luna, what happened.” He asked with concern. The small pups that wrestled on the floor were no older than 2, but the memories of this packhouse before my mate would be engrained in the hearts of those old enough to remember.
“Derrick. Exactly how well did Wade treat Lilly?” I asked.
“My father was a fucking monster. To Everyone. But since he was manipulative, and my father, he made you feel like it was your fault. I stayed for her sake, but realistically I knew I wasn’t strong enough to defeat him either… It’s why my brother left before I was born…but I’m glad I stayed. Anything else?” He said taking a sip casually. There were mummers of agreement through the room of the older wolves that lived under him. I clenched my fist until my knuckles were white.
I left after I spoke with Derrick…. I had heard snips and bits of all the stories, but never had I heard it all. I was disgusted, and I hoped that Warrior McDaniel would mark her. It wouldn’t take away all the pain, but the rest of her immortal life would be better. I’ve heard that mark mates feel like one’s true soulmate. I heard that from Gamma. Shelly was his second mate, as his true mate rejected him. The Lady is probably making Lilly feel this way so that she can choose someone else.
I arrived home without incident, until I saw Caleb with a large warrior, killing a rat. How did he get outside?! I heard Connor, Kaiden, John, and Heidi outside, so they must have taken the pups with them, but I still didn’t like this. I parked into the garage only to be greeted by my son…holding his prize in his hands by the tail. It was a very large field rat, though it looked like he killed it by breaking its neck.
“Look momma!” He said with a smile. “Look what I caught.” He beamed proudly.
“Wow! Let’s show your daddy!” I encouraged, but really, I wanted to see if this was normal. I had never done anything like that when I was a pup, but at the same time, I wasn’t of Alpha blood.
We walked around the other side of the house, to see the other pups playing in the dirt, digging up my flowers. I had just ordered them too, but it would be fine so long as they didn’t destroy the roots.
Connor gave out a whistle. “Woa big guy, lookie what you got!” He ran to Caleb and ruffled his hair. He was so proud of himself… and I wouldn’t be the one to ruin his little confidence. In a few more years he would be hunting deer. Caleb almost never smiled or really expressed himself much, so seeing him genuinely happy made me smile.
“I was about your age when I caught my first rat.” Said Kaiden, bending down to his eye level. The warrior that watched guard over Caleb looked uncomfortable, mostly because of the hard glare I gave him. I didn’t trust others around them too much since they were small, but this guard seemed to know better.
“Really?!” He chirped, followed by Jason, who had a living mouse in his hands by the tail, and Michelle, who had a rat, and Isabelle, who had flowers instead.
“EW!” She squealed when Michelle and Jason chased her.
“If It’s alive let it go.” Said John softly to the pups. They saw his serious face and let them run off into the forest. All the warriors who were around that heard him were expecting him to get into some kind of trouble, especially since his sister just got in hot water. He gave a smile, and kneeled to their level. “Good, now it can go be in the wild where it belongs. One rat is enough.”
“Yeah, it’s what’s for dinner, isn’t that right babygirl?” Said Kaiden, who took the poor thing from Michelle and put it in my hands. I tried my hardest not to squeal, it was still ALIVE. It was only playing dead, springing from my hands and running off while being chased by 4 pups.
I screamed and got teased a bit. I’m a werewolf for Lady’s sake. I shouldn’t be scared of something so simple, yet here I was freaking out. Even Heidi didn’t.
“Oh no, dinner got away, but we can have tacos instead.” I said cheerfully, and I went upstairs to get them all a bath… and myself before I made dinner. It wasn’t my turn, it was Shelly’s, but she had a mandatory video meeting with the King today since he wanted them to participate more.
They were all old enough now to take their own baths, but I still checked on them each, while each of us took turns bathing ourselves. John borrowed some of Kaiden’s clothes and used our guest room, because I insisted that he have dinner with us.
