Chapter 94

Shelly
I looked at my little mate with concern while my grandparents had the pups and the ex priest for all the council to see. They were the most feared of all the shifters, known for their absolute abilities of destruction and might, but now, they were wearing little pink flower crowns. I was too, but that was expected. I am a princess. Eric was asleep, because he had low stamina, and taking care of four teething pups, even with extra help was a little tiring. Those little fangs were about ready to come out for another pair.
This was especially true for Jason. That boy would happily bite fingers and wrestle your arms with a vengeance. Their first set of hard fangs were coming in, and Lady damnit they all played rough. I was glad I came up with the flower picking contest. Today there would be other royals coming to talk with grandfather, but in the meantime, I allowed them to play.
When they got to the castle, I would make it my business to have them stay in the room with Eric, and possibly stay in the room myself, because I didn’t want any trouble. I didn’t know the other kings and queens or their cultures as well as I would like to admit, and the last thing I want is a misunderstanding when we are on the verge of war with the humans.
I just didn’t understand why the humans would want this. There was so much death on all sides in the old times, and with peace, we still don’t get along, but at least no one had to worry too much about being attacked in the night. I heard the howl from a guard, letting us know that there was a new visitor coming.
“Take the children for a nap, Shelly.” Said grandfather, handing me all of my squirming charges at once.
“Fat chance, but I’ll try.” I said, rolling my eyes, then realizing who I had done that to after I did it. I looked at him, and he seemed pissed, but he let it slide. It’s easy to forget because of how calm and quiet he is…. Also my sarcasm will be the death of me if I keep it up, I thought.
“They will, and come downstairs when they do.” Said Grandma confidently. I wondered would she use her powers on the kids, but there probably wasn’t a need.
I nudged Eric awake with my foot, and he groggily got up and carried Jason and Caleb for me. once they got put on the bed, all of them went to sleep. They hadn’t had a nap in a while, and Eric was pooped. I changed into some cleaner clothes, though I still didn’t look royal. I had put on a black tank, a blue cardigan, and some matching pants and flats.
“Now announcing Master Victor, the Battle Bull Aesculus, King Franklin of the Sorcerors, Queen Xi the Second of the Witches, and Queen Diana of the Fea.” Said a loud announcing voice. They looked of typical fancy types, except why was Jerold here?
“Jerold?!” I happily waved, and he waved back smiling.
“Nice to see you again Princess. Your brothers are staying out of trouble I hope?” He said, coming to shake my wrists. I didn’t care that the other nobles were watching, he saved my niece. He would always be welcome.
“Hell no, I wouldn’t be surprised if Connor managed to get his head stuck in a jar somewhere.” I said and there was a light wave of giggles, but grandfather didn’t look too pleased.
“I’m RIGHT here!” I heard the familiar complaining voice of none other than my littlest brother.
“YOU should be on vacation!” I yell, smacking him on the back of the head. “And where’s Nancy?!” He growled at me, and I growled back before grabbing his ear, making him whine, though I know I couldn’t hurt him. “And don’t use that tone with me, I raised you, little boy, and so help me I can undo it!” I threaten, not caring who heard.
“She’s upstairs by now. You’re making me look bad!” He whined.
“And I care?” I said with a smirk letting him go before I pushed him too far. Titus is stronger than me, but it helps that he sees me as his mother. If that wasn’t the case, we would probably be actually fighting.
“Can we get on with it?” Said the Fae Queen, who looked like a fairy god mother. Her white dress reflected every color of the rainbow, and her wings were like a beautiful iridescent butterfly’s wings. I rolled my eyes at the snobbish woman. It was clear she saw us as animals.
“We must wait for the rest.” Said Grandfather, glaring at us. /I will only tell you once. Behave./ He linked, which sent a shiver down my spine. His voice was cold as ice in my head, and I felt compelled to comply.
They chatted and I had no intention of trying to hold a conversation with any of these ancients. They fought and ended the last war, so they knew each other well beyond any years I had on this earth. Jerold was nice enough though. He chatted with me and Connor. It turns out that he didn’t trust the Vampire Lord around Noah, so he left him and their newest adopted pup with Kaiden.
The rest of the rulers of other supernatural creatures came within the next hour, including a representative of the Church of the Light. I thought it was a bit cowardly, as everyone else came, but their leader was probably off plotting something. They all sat at the table, as well as any councils, princes, or princesses stood on the sides of the walls in the grand council room. It wasn’t that there wasn’t enough space, it was more because that was the way they wanted it.
The ex-priest told his story in truth again, before everyone, and the vile was pulled from grandfather’s pocket. It glimmered dangerously in the light, and seeing it again made me feel more uneasy. One drop was all it could take… It could shatter and kill everyone here. I thought. There were murmurs in the room, while the priest representative glared bullets at the man who would rat them out.
“It cannot be denied that this human sect needs to be audited.” Said the Goblin King, rubbing his callused thumb over his jeweled knuckles.
“Yes, but what of the lives they have taken, by giving illegal ‘hunters’ weapons? We must take that into consideration as well.” Said the Vampire Lord.
“I motion we disband their sovereignty, but let them keep their group.” Said the Unicorn Queen quietly. All eyes turned to her. “It isn’t the world that had done this, only a few corrupt individuals. I motion we weed them out, and from now on, they report to us.” She said and sipped her tea. Her voice was sweet as honey and light as air. I could see her making a lullaby album.
“And what will you do? Give them sugar and candies while they gut us?” grumbled the Goblin King.
He was swiftly grabbed by the throat so fast I didn’t even see it. The Unicorn Queen had him raised in the air for all to see. “Do not fuck with me little man. My patience is already thin with your kind after you marketed our horns.” She snorted, sounding like an angry horse.
“Enough.” Roared grandfather, startling everyone. “Let us take this to a vote.
“What of our side?!” protested the priest.
“Yes, what of it?” He retorted.
“We are victims too! We are looked down on and treated as cattle, to be eaten and hunted at your leisure.” He said with clenched fists.
“That is why we have the Secret Police, the unicorns, as well as all the kings and queens of the courts, to police our people, so that yours may sleep at night. How many unsanctioned vampire attacks have you had?” Said the Vampire king.
He said nothing.
“How many children have been whisked away in the forest without breaking the law first?” Said the Fae Queen
He again said nothing.
“How many shifter attacks in cities or safe zones?” Said Grandmother.
He could only clench his fist.
“Your people have been the root of this,” Said the Goblin King.
“Yet who are the ones who pick up the pieces? How many stories do we hear in confession, being shoulders to cry on when no one would believe them? The loved ones that ‘go missing’ because they simply know too much, most of the time because they aren’t allowed to know of the dangers in the first place?!” Screamed the priest. Grandmother stood and pounded her fist on the table, making all eyes turn to her.
“Yet how many packs have been burned to the ground by greedy headhunters? How many witches who have nothing to do with you burned alive… how many innocent? Those you supplied with weapons to kill Our innocent must be taken into consideration as well. Surely an entire pack of a few hundred isn’t terrorizing your towns filled with thousands. One released human often leads to 200 or more supernatural lives, because of Your ILLEGAL technology?”
“We do not indorse Headhunters.” He lied firmly.
Grandmother scoffed. “I suppose they got all of this new technology All over the World in almost every Hunter cell we find from nowhere then? Shooting us, burning us alive, and hunting us isn’t enough. Now your people try to riddle us with artificial disease, yet You cry victim. How many innocent lives of Ours do you think this will affect? Your people released this. Your people will be audited. You can’t play double standard. All of our peoples are far and few between. We stay to the shadows and to ourselves, yet your organization is the one doing the terror.” Said grandmother, her eyes flashed black. “I agree with Queen Sky of the Unicorns.” She grumbled.
There were mutters of agreement, and just like that, they would have to have a major overhaul, or have the entire council against them.
“I refuse those conditions. We would be the only group within the council who is not free to do as they please.” He said, taking a step forward, now fully in front of my grandfather, as he was in the center of the table.
“This isn’t permanent, it will only be for about 10 years; long enough to flush out the bad seeds, and promote those who truly have your people at heart.” Said Queen Sky, who was sitting back in her chair.
The representative grumbled and got on his phone, reporting what was ruled. “His Holiness accepts for the sake of peace, however, he warns that it will be on our terms Unicorns or not.” He said clenching his phone, making his knuckles white.
