Chapter 50

Eclipse
My heart raced, and all I could do was look at what he had done. The only thing I could do was run from this she wolf, and he destroyed her without even having to change. Her body was lifeless and covered in dirt, and I could not look away. I kept taking small steps back away from Alpha, because I was afraid of what he had done so easily, without thought. I took another miniscule step back, and Alpha turned to me with amber yellow eyes that had a sadness to them.
“Calm down babygirl,” he sighed, walking up to me and hugged me gently before I could go any further.
I didn’t know where I was going to go, just away from the sight of what he had done. He took a deep breath. “Our Luna is an innocent soul, she’s not even taken a life in the hunt, so I will do it for her. I will do anything for her. Anything. Go back to your homes and remember this day.” Kaiden’s voice was passionate, and low, but everyone seemed to hear, and they all started to leave, and I kept staring at the girl’s body. “Look away babygirl, I regret letting you come, but pack justice must be carried out.” He said rubbing my back in little circles, a little blood still on his hands.
“I’m sorry that you’re always getting hurt, I am supposed to protect you.” He whispered in my ear, holding me close.
“It’s not your fault, you were doing everything you could for the pack….” I whispered back, putting my arms around his neck, even bent down he was still taller than me, and I was engulfed in the most tender kiss. I kissed him back, and hugged him harder. “If anything, I should apologize for how I felt when you didn’t pick me up…” I said with a small shame in my heart.
He pulled away and looked me in the eyes, they were kind and patient. I could feel he had become calmer, but I could see the regret in his eyes…
“But that’s natural…. Don’t apologize for instincts you don’t know how to handle yet….” Alpha mumbled, kissing me on the forehead. He was so loving when he wanted to be, and we were like this for some time. He allowed me the room I needed to get a handle on my emotions. My fear slowly turned into butterflies, feeling the love off him.
The fireflies danced in the twilight, and he breathed in my scent deeply. We stood there in that moment, me not wanting it to end. This was the Alpha I craved, and he embraced me gently. I slowly calmed down, still a little jarred from the fact that he could do something like that so brutally… but I chose not to bring it back up….
“I do what I have to to make sure you’re safe babygirl. That female could have caused a chain reaction of challenges and poor treatment of you… to do nothing tells the pack that I condone her actions… to leave you unprotected… I could not do that to you.” He said tenderly, picking me up. He carried me for all to see, and I held onto him, resting my head on his chest. He smelled like campfire ashes…. His heart still beat like a drum, but his words were calm...
He took me upstairs and I sat on the bed while he took a shower. Shimmer was proud our mate had avenged us, but I didn’t need that. I just wanted him to be like he was when I first saw him in the hospital, not a revenge crazed wolf out to get anyone that hurt me. I heard the shower turn off and he walked out steaming in only a towel, water droplets rolling off his muscular back and shoulders. We watched him dry off.
I shoved Shimmer down, she was thirsty she screamed, and he looked back at me with a smirk, removing the towel, and slipping on boxers. He walked slowly to us while we still argued, and he wrapped his arm around me, sending tingles down my body. My mind screamed danger because of his scent, while Shimmer screamed ‘mate take me’. I hope he didn’t hear that, why does she have to always be like this?!
“Shimmer.” he whispered in my ear, his lips grazing my earlobe, sending shivers down my confused little body. She clawed to try to get out, and we fought for control. “Let Eclipse calm down, hmm?” He moved his hand down my back, stopping at the bottom of the bed. My face got red hot and I turned around screaming into a pillow. How could he do this to me?! My body went from terrified to wanting action in a flash. He laughed at what he had done, and Shimmer kept complaining that I was calm enough.
He got in bed, and waited for me to take a shower, getting into a big t-shirt and pajama pants. He eyed me in interest but didn’t try anything, to Shimmer’s agitation. I got in bed and he rolled over to pull me close, and I used him as a pillow. I ignored the smell of danger off him; it would have to be something I get used to. I knew he was aggressive and dangerous before I met him, the only difference now is that me being around makes him less brutal. He would have probably been more creative with that she wolf if I wasn’t around. He smelled my hair before going to bed, if he heard me he chose not to add to the conversation, and for it I was a little glad. It was hard not to think of whatever comes to mind near someone who can hear you. It wasn’t something naturally done, no matter how hard I tried.
-----Kaiden-----
I lay in bed staring at my phone, still unable to sleep. I pretended for my mate’s sake, but in reality, I was up. It was early. Eclipse slept soundly after our activities…but that was more because of her wolf. For Shimmer, she wanted me close for our scents to mix. Also we’d all be lying if sex with your true mate wasn’t great. For her sake, and for the sake of trying to avoid the drama of other she wolves, she was the only she wolf I’d paired with in at least 100 years or so…. She wolves are a strange lot… Attachment, obsession, and possessiveness were common in them. Looking at the ceiling, about the only thing I could think of was just being cordial to those she wolves… was That all it takes for some she wolves to run away with their imagination? Should I have snarled at them instead?
And what of the humans….. Now the border was safe with all known hunters dead or captured… but what of their families? Their pups were taken, memory erased, and now live with other families…. I wasn’t worried of Them… I wondered did we miss any. My wolf stirred, agitated and with Rakaam upset and thrashing around, I knew I fucked myself with the stray thoughts.
/The fuck you did. I want Out./ He snarled. I ignored.
The sun hadn’t even thought of rising, as it was only 3 in the morning. I scrolled through the afternoon emails that I’d missed, and restless, I got up, unable to really sleep. First the humans, then my own wolves disrespecting my Luna while my back was turned. It made my gums itch. I went downstairs, seeing that Eric was in the kitchen alone, making a ham sandwich.
“You should go back to bed while the bedding is possible for you.” He said with a small smile.
“Ironic, isn’t it?” I complained. “The One time I Could get sleep, I’m up because Rakaam’s restless. He wants me to organize a hunting party, and find out if there are any more Luna challengers.”
He chuckled. “It’s what any wolf would want… though I think it best if you didn’t. I know after what they saw, only an idiot would try anything again. As it is I’ve been having a lot of trouble quelling the fear of the lower ranked wolves in the pack too. They fear your aggression, and the hunting raid your wolf wants…. If he did that now, there would be chaos.” He said turning on the electric tea kettle, because I knew him; he was probably going to make me tea or something.
“And on top of everything…. Me not training her is starting to become a problem.” I grumbled, and he hesitated before approaching me, giving me the space to tell him not to approach if I wanted.
Eric was my sister’s mate, and he aided her in steering me the right direction. I sat at the kitchen table to tell him in wolf he could, and sure enough, lavender tea was placed in front of me. “I wouldn’t know what to do in this situation, because my wolf is dormant… but I would just suggest that maybe you should start doing little things here and there to get her used to her position now that she’s actually getting used to you much faster than expected… Also I’ve been meaning to catch you… the council called. I think they want an audience.” He said sitting close to me.
I nodded with a grunt. “Email them back that they can wait. I need to secure the pack first.”
“I still feel like you shouldn’t worry too much.” He said looking out the window.
I could see my Warriors run off as if they’d linked each other of a threat, but that no one came and got me meant it was probably just a human. It was just about tourist season now, but I knew they would be likely more merciless to them because of the Headhunters. Just in case I linked them to arrest the human if they were able. I wanted them alive in case there was a straggler, or a scout. I doubted it though.
Moments later I got the call that they indeed found humans. Thankfully they were just teenagers. Apparently, they were also Very drunk around a makeshift camping site, so I told them to booze them up a little more and ‘crash’ their car. In reality, one of my Warriors would dent the hood and make them think that it was all in their imagination.
I also called the Secret Police, so they would be the ones to ‘find’ them. The kid would probably get in serious trouble, but better to be in trouble than in prison the rest of their natural lives from the age of 18, 19, and 21. We did this all the time for heavily drunk or inebriated humans. They had Already been partying. It wasn’t that far of a stretch to pass out and have ‘strange dreams’… but for others, there was little we could do for them. We weren’t magic.
Also no one would believe them, which was the only reason why we even did that in the first place.
I went upstairs to see her sleeping so soundly while I watched her, and I got in bed. I held her gently as not to wake her. I continued to stare. She was legitimately the most beautiful woman I’d ever met… and her presence calmed Rakaam.
