Chapter 22

Eclipse
I ran, chasing the smell of Alpha and metal determined to get to the small infirmary. I had been there as a pup, but I didn’t really remember where it was, so following the Warriors was my best bet. Once they were sure that I could keep up, they went faster. I could barely keep up, but I let Shimmer take over, and with her in control, we were about a tail length’s behind.
It was a small clinic, but it had everything we needed. I shifted back as fast as I could, and went into the clinic, and the receptionist tossed me a blue pullover dress.
“Luna.” Bowed a nurse.
“Is he ok?” I asked run walking with her.
“Dr. Goldman will know more detail.” She said leading me to him.
My heart sank, seeing him look so pitiful in his sleep…. I don’t think I’d ever imagined seeing him look so… so nearly dead. They already had him on a blood purification machine like in the hospital, though this one was bigger. This one was meant for silver poisoning. He was hooked up to machines, and there was a male nurse injecting him with an almost glowing liquid. It was blue tinted, with small flecks of flashing light coming out of it.
“This is Dr. Goldman Luna.” Said the nurse, bowing and leaving me with the reddish-golden haired man. We shook wrists, and he gave me a bow, before rising to his full height.
He shook my hand, being as tall as a warrior. He held off colored eyes, holding one blue while the other was brown, though oddly enough I couldn’t make out the flecks of his wolf. He was likely an Omega, but as a doctor, no one would care.
“My Luna, Alpha Kaiden will be fine, though try to make sure he takes the day off tomorrow.” He smiled and continued. “The trace amounts of silver in his blood caused his organs to go into a kind of limbo. He has very good healing, however we cannot heal with silver. He would heal, and it would immediately reopen.” He sounded matter of fact fashioned.
“What was that you gave him, doctor?” I asked.
“As the Headhunters have found better ways to try and kill us, we have discovered antidotes. That is moonstone water, or moon blessed saline. It was developed by the Hinds family, a known family of wolf doctors a few years ago. Moonstone is dropped in the saline water, a prayer is said over it under 13 moons, it neutralizes the supernatural effect of silver, and allows the body to pass it.” He said proudly.
I let out a sigh of relief, knowing that he would be ok.
I looked at him sleeping. And I realized that I had grown to love this corny, overbearing man. He did so much for everyone else, even if ultimately it was slightly selfish sometimes. He protected me with his life, not letting a single hunter past him. Hunters that would have killed him, and me… Hunters that would try and find the pack for revenge…
I wondered did he get all of them? He had too, there was so much blood and it all happened so fast... and I was of no use at all. If it wasn’t for Shimmer… I’d have watched my mate die.
/ Do NOT say that!/ She yelled at me, /he will be ok./ she whined.
I almost did with her. As it was, that was the first fight I’d ever been in… it was also the first time I’d seen Alpha fight. He was fearless, lunging at them even under the threat of death…
I held his hand, hoping he would squeeze. He didn’t; he was just limp, but breathing normally now.
I don’t know how long I stayed in there, nor did I really care. The private room they gave him had a TV, however everything around me was ambient noise…. I didn’t know or care what was on. I think it was the news… I could hear Warriors come in and pay respects, though I only went through the motions.
He felt so weak through our bond…. I’d just gotten my mate… and already I almost lost him.
-------Kaiden-------
I woke up in the infirmary clinic, my chest was heavy, but warm. I looked to see my Luna, her head on my chest, my left hand was death gripped. Her eyes were still wet with tears. Knowing her, she thought all this mess was her fault, but honestly, they were probably following me. They were probably watching us since we had eaten lunch since I’d noticed the couple then now that I thought of it.
The light, peeping through the blinds were attacking my eyes, and I slowly sat up in defeat, trying not to wake up Eclipse. There was no telling how long she stayed up waiting for me. I stroked her soft, frizzy hair. She hummed quietly in her sleep. I could hear the chatter outside the room as well. It seemed that I was the focus of gossip, and I was thankful Rakaam still wasn’t roused just yet, as I wanted to hear. Healing had taken a lot out of him, though rest would help us.
“Did you see how small Luna was?” I heard a young female voice say as I heard clacks of footsteps and something on wheels. I sat up proper, focusing on the door.
“I did. She was the little one with the shiny legs? I thought that was a teenager.” Said A male voice.
“She’s adorable. She reminds me of my little niece.” Giggled someone else.
“I did too; poor thing’s worried sick about her mate.” said the most mature sounding of the females.
“Has anyone checked his vitals for Dr. Goldman yet?” Asked the male voice.
“I did at 5.” Said the mature one.
“He wants new readings. His numbers are still too high.” Said the male.
“You check on Alpha, and I’ll make sure Warrior McGillen has his meal.” Said the younger sounding female.
“Warrior Hank is still waking up from surgery; I’ll go help Nurse Amy.” Said the male.
I was a little perturbed that they would speak of my Luna, but she was incredibly small. They also meant no ill toward it, and for that I would leave well enough alone. Had they said anything else, anything at all that would have roused my wolf, I would have let him have at it.
I think I struck the fear in a nurse that walked in, seeing me awake. She froze almost like a deer in the headlights when she saw me sitting up.
“Alpha” she stuttered. She was the youngest sounding she wolf, the one that said my mate was adorable. I kind of smiled at the fact that right now, I could probably be bested by her, but she didn’t know that. “The doctor said that you should lay down at least until noon, I’m not telling you what to do though.” She said the last part fast. “I’m also hear to check your vitals again to make sure the dialysis is working properly.”
“Close the blinds for me and I’ll try” I said amused; my wolf was not. He wanted to get up and yell at her about how he knows what’s best. He also wanted to tell her off about talking about Eclipse, but they would do that anyway. She was their new Luna, and anything about her they didn’t know would spread like wildfire.
I let her take my blood, and my temperature. “Alpha, you’re temperature is really high…” She timidly closed the blinds, I now realized she was the one who also helped me with my hand.
“That’s normal.” I said casually. If she didn’t know, I wouldn’t tell her, though I should tell her thank you later.
I laid there about 10 minutes. I sat back up, only to feel a forceful push back down. “Stay there, big brother.” Said Beta. The rage that rushed through my body was like a wildfire, erupting in a dry forest that was unquenchable. But if he could push me down, then I could not fight him. HE had dominated me. And I wanted to kick his ass for it.
“Beta…” I growl a warning. He smiled and ruffled my hair, making me sit straight up, waking up my Luna.
“Who’s the big strong Alpha?” He asked, talking to me as if I were a baby.
“Fuck off Connor!”, I growl. I was immediately pulled into a hug by her, she put her face in my chest and breathed deep.
“I told you he’s fine.” He said ignoring me, facing the door. My sister, along with Delta had flowers. I rolled my eyes; I’ll be dammed before I stay in here longer than a few hours.
“I’ll be fine in a couple hours; you didn’t have to visit.” I grumbled.
“He still needs to rest.” Said my sister, ignoring me. Why was she always like this, just because she was a hundred years older than me, she always treated me like a pup.
“I can rest up at home.” I insisted. “I must not show weakness.”
“Just rest, Alpha, you will heal faster.” She said sternly. There was never any arguing with her, but I wanted to leave. I didn’t need to look weak in front of the pack, it makes people nervous, and I didn’t want another challenger showing up, thinking they had a chance.
I felt my mate’s gentle small hands on my chest, calming me before I could start an argument. “Please…. ” She said quietly, I could hear her thoughts. She was worried about me. She emitted love and compassion through our bond, though I don’t think she knows she did.
I laid back down, just for her, and she kissed me on the cheek. “I love you.” She almost whispered.
“I love you too.” I said tiredly, no longer able to fight. My spirit was on fire, but my body was tepid water.
I held her hand and held it gently, and I fell asleep in her care.
