Book 2: Chapter 100

Heidi
“… I find that hard to believe Murderer.” Said the King.
“And how many of mine did you roast with your flames old dog? We have Both Lost children.” He said angrily, then he took a breath. “I cannot take back my words or actions, nor can You. I suggest we remain civil.”
“You break the law Thrice, yet you wish me civil?” He growled. “I am not a man, nor do I have one. Remember your next words carefully… the laws of man don’t apply to a wolf.”
“Then Wolf, I will treat you as you deserve.” He said standing up. He walked away from his peers, getting closer to us. His aura… It made me dizzy. John took steps back, putting me behind him. He covered his mouth, as did Alpha Ron. They were holding back the urge to vomit, while I began to physically smoke.
“You break the law being here!” Said the man on his right. “Smite them!”
“What do you think he’s doing?” Said the one on the left end bored. Our lives were lower than animals to him…. I could see that in his eyes.
“Human you will get no more warnings.” Snarled the King, holding grandma behind him as John did me.
He looked ready to attack.
“I broke the law going to their pack after they killed my village… All that hate didn’t bring them back.” Said Rodrick. “I broke the law killing his youngest son, pulling him off his mother’s teat while he still squeaked… and the others too… and StoneMoon… I don’t remember how many. I personally gave those Hunters the tools they needed… I broke the law by killing countless innocent, so much so my first death sent me to Hell for what He ordered me to do.
…. I broke the law in my second life whoring. I ran away from my past as a charlatan, pretending I was normal…. That body holds so many descendants, every day for half the year is one of my grandchildren’s birthdays…. Brother Harmon, you’re my descendant from that one, it is why you sit at my right. It is why I named you my Seat should I permanently die, and the next Holy Seat once Arnold dies.”
“Brother this is Heresy!” Said the one on his left.
“If it was, I could not do this.” He said simply. “Who do you think holds the power of picking the faces of every Holy Seat? One who will live under him past the generation you can.”
The Queen growled, but I could see tears form on her face as she stood tall…
“I confess my sins. I broke the law my third life, wasting it being a drunkard for the crimes I committed for the Light… all the children I’ve burned... I still, even on my 21st life, my memories taken Twenty Times, I Still Hear Their Begging when I close my eyes. I am Tired. We were not Meant to do these things this long… but it is why he gave me so much power.”
“I have had Enough.” Said grandfather, shifting in front of us, licking grandma’s cheek before turning back to Rodrick. [I will Kill you for her tears!]
I understood his wolfspeach with no issue…. It was as fluent as English to me…
“Do not break the law for my sake!” She yelled but it was too late.
He charged as Rodrick walked calmly to him, but when he received the flaming bite of the Charred One… he burned with a sad smile.
[I tried.] he growled. [I Tried to do man’s work as a wolf… how sweet his blood tastes. You think yourself a Victim?! All I see is my Failure…]
“I don’t understand you… but if it will bring you peace to see me suffer… I will do it if it brings you closure. Neither of us can die…neither can forget… and we Both knew this would happen.” He coughed then he laughed.
“You Restart the war!” Screamed his second in command at the top of his lungs, but his bloodied hand held in the air made them all sit down.
He laughed.
“Be silent.” He sounded as a ghost… “I will never forgive what you did to my family, or my hometown before I retaliated…. I can never forget the crushing weight of the Tyrant’s hand around my throat… nor can I forgive myself for my first life, or my seventh…. Ten thousand years of this… of seeing this world change in century long glimpses with only a few centuries break in between… and seeing the future of this day to know Nothing I chose would bring Peace other than my blood pooling under the feet of an animal so enraged he can no longer understand English.”
In grandpa’s rage, Rodrick didn’t burn… catching on fire, but he and his robes were fine. He didn’t burn, but the flames raged as grandfather’s eyes turned from golden to red…. to charcoal gray… He did bleed blood, and there was a large pool under his feet as he closed his eyes…
“Stop him!” Said the one on the left, but the one who sat on the Right of Rodrick held up his hand.
“So long as I hold This life, you will abstain from disobeying my wishes.” Growled Rodrick. I didn’t catch any orders… so possibly they could have used additional eye or hand signals….
“He is the strongest of us all. He does this to prove our Lord’s power.” The one on the right said dismissively. I think though by the Way he said that, that he wasn’t confident in Rodrick and was waiting to become the new leader….
He died.
Grandpa let go, but stood defensively in front of us as they got up, getting their swords ready. They waited for some grand fight… not the death of their leader, especially since I’d personally seen him summon angel’s wings…
“As the New Leader of the-” he was cut off.
“The new leader of What?” Rodrick asked, sitting up, rubbing his disappearing wounds. “The new leader of Shut Up and Sit back Down?” It was loud and clear as he took a deep breath. His pale, bloodless body stood up and dusted itself off, becoming lively again. “Be Silent. Can we continue now? Is one death enough?” He asked with a raised brow.
[You confuse me….] Said Grandfather. He shifted back, about to repeat himself, but he was cut off.
“I’m different. You have the experience of living One life a very long time… I have lived 21 including the first one. I’ve seen this world change every few hundred years since my stent in Hell. I’ve had 21 times to get it right and I think this is the only one I’ve succeeded.”
“The only thing you ‘succeeded’ in doing is gaining my ire.” He grumbled. “I have come because you break the Law, and put My pups in danger.”
“I am the only soul who knows that location. I was neither followed, nor had my phone with me, as I tossed it out the window when I got to the rental car shop. One run by goblins. The only way anyone would know now is through the odor the land and its people forever emit. Their only protection is me and my order. Even if the Horned One himself put a barrier over it, and shielded the people that way, his actions would still attract we few XIII. Every single one of them by my order is hereby pardoned on the condition that they remain living as they do, away from humans in private. It was My people who broke the treaty bylaws.”
Grandfather stood there. “I cannot lie and say that I didn’t come here biased, thinking you had not changed, and you planned the mass murder of my people…”
“Had this been before the Treaty, and my Lord’s instructions, it Would be. Don’t think that because I am doing the right thing, that I do it for Their sakes… I do it for My people. The humans of this town don’t need vigilantes on either side…”
“Then let us make it official with paperwork and blood signing.” Said the King. He’d calmed down, but I could still see his eyes were soot colored… I’d never seen that. It looked like a combination of what happens when wood’s done burning… a strange combination of white ash and black bits here and there of charred wood.
He let hot ash out his nose, but he walked to the center of the table, so tall that even though they held the height of elevation and stairs, that he could still look Rodrick in the eyes. I could see the steam that came from his hands as he extended his claw, cutting his hand.
“With wolf and mortal’s blood may an addendum be made.” Said grandpa. With my blood, I reinforce the treaty, and with my word I will continue to hold it.”
Rodrick also cut his nondominant hand, “And as the mortal representative, all but the Lord Himself can recount my blood and oath. That my word be firm steel, that my blood shows my conviction…. Our people itch too much for a war No One won… The addendum is for territory claimed by the enemy. Should the souls who live on tarnished land be innocent and free of law breaking, they will not be harmed. The addendum is created in the event should the wolves of Stone and LapisMoon leave, their lands would be tainted… the current people save only One is innocent, and she is of royal birth. On my authority as being the Left and Right Hands on earth, I may sign.”
“Technically, this case would go to one higher than I.” Said grandpa, “However, the Tyrant sleeps, and cannot be awakened, and we do not know when he will awake. Therefore, by royal charter, I too pardon all condemned parties, as the Tyrant King’s Overseer, and as standing Center King.”
They turned to us now, and John stepped forward. “I will be representative of both packs, as my father is present, and I am his heir.”
“Very good.” Said grandfather. “Do you vow to uphold the new addendum, as well as the original Treaty laws? Do you vow that none of the wolves will involve themselves with the Horned One, by order of banishment?” He asked.
“In the event of worship, they will be banished after given a fair trial.” Said John.
Both leaders nodded, humming in respect. “But what of the Dark Witch? She is but a Mutt.” Said the one who sits on Rodrick’s left, and he was immediately slapped by Rodrick.
“Speak One more word out of Line and lose your tongue.” He growled.
