Chapter 54
Eclipse
My body was absolute jelly. Running, climbing, training with the warriors. It had me completely tired. Alpha was packing 2 duffel bags with clothes, snacks and a folder that had a lot of documents in it. He looked serious, and I was worried about him. He never tells me anything, and for him to go through all this training with me, and actually telling me what was happening meant it was incredibly important.
I had already finished packing. We would be gone for 3 days, and Alpha jolted his head up. He was talking to someone, and by the angry look on his face, I could only guess it was Beta; he likes messing with him. He had been talking with him all morning, getting everything organized so that when we leave, that everything runs smoothly.
“Beta said the car’s ready.” He said with a grunt. He carried all the bags downstairs in one hand, and we made our way to the garage. Alpha’s old car was a little dented but looked good to me. He let out a sigh and rubbed the dents like it was a bruise on his own arm, and put the stuff in the trunk. He opened the door for me, and he drove out the territory.
“We’re going to go maybe 10 hours today, stop to sleep, and then the other 5 tomorrow.” He said breaking the silence. “We are going deep into LapisMoon territory, and we will be guests, so we will be expected to show proper respect.” He said with a small annoyed snarl.
I scrunched my eyebrows, “But you’re never gone this long Alpha,” I say confused.
“They won’t allow me to present you to the local council. They want me to go all the way to his Court, in the mountains of northern Grandia.” He said not taking his eyes off the road, clenching the wheel making his knuckles white.
After that, we drove and made little stops along the way, going to the bathroom, buying more snacks, and then he slowed the car. We stopped at a small town to get gas. After that we went back on the road. Sitting so long made Shimmer nuts, and Alpha’s wolf too most likely, but they would just have to deal with it. It was late at night and he got off the highway, and slowly the towns turned to trees. I could smell wolves, and he seemed to be talking to someone.
“We are entering the LapisMoon territory, Alpha Ron has allowed us rest in his packhouse. He’s been an Alpha since before the pyramids, and will be on the council tomorrow.” He said calmly, and grabbed my hand. “The High council is full of old powerful wolves, though they’re respectful enough.” He said with a smirk.
His explanation wasn’t enough for me, because I was wondering one important thing. Why? Why is this so important that the council had to make us go to them? I didn’t even know they existed until recently, and why so all of a sudden? I know he explained to me the seriousness of the Wolf King and his relation to him… but why did everyone care now?
He didn’t answer me like he usually does, I knew he heard my thoughts because I was practically yelling them at him, almost mind linking him, but he drove with a poker face, and we reached the packhouse. It was a massive, square colonial styled house that was painted all white. We drove around the back, and were directed to park in a massive garage full of cars.
Alpha opened the door for me, and got the stuff out the car. We walked back around to the front, and knocked on the door. The moment it opened, I could smell sand? There was a dryness to it, and soon I saw who the scent belonged to. There was a 60 year old man, about the same height as Kaiden, with black hair, ebony skin, and in a white business shirt and black slacks. His mate stood beside him; her hair was silver with white tips in a matching white dress.
He welcomed us in, and invited us to dinner. I didn’t feel anything off this man, usually you feel the power of another wolf, but I couldn’t smell it. It had me confused, and a little nervous, because if he was on the council and had a pack, he must be strong, but I couldn’t tell. Nor could I with his mate, they just smelled like sand, pine, and wolf. I ignored it as best as I could, and sat quietly at the dinner table that was already set.
We ate steak with potatoes and green beans. It was really good, and I sat between his Beta and Alpha Kaiden. Alpha Ron was at the other end of the table with his mate. “Little Luna, I hear your thoughts,” he said amused, and it caused Kaiden to growl lowly. “You don’t smell my power because I do not impose it on others like your mate does. He doesn’t have that control yet, just as you cannot build a wall strong enough for an elder or Alpha.” He said completely ignoring Alpha Kaiden’s warning. He drank a sip of water. “You both are pups, but your pack is strong. In time, you both will learn.” He said amused, Alpha shot daggers at him.
I felt awkward. What if I had been thinking about something else? It was a good thing Shimmer was too focused on the food; she’s always so loud and irrationally perverted. I heard both alpha’s chuckle. Lady Damnit.
-----Kaiden-----
I raked my mind on what to do with one day left. I look at her lying there, so innocent to what was to come. There was no time in my life I had ever worried about someone this much. The only thought in my mind was what could happen to her if they didn’t like her. I had never presented a Luna, so I honestly don’t know what would happen. It was 4am, and with 5 hours to drive, I figured I would let her rest while I packed up.
“Leaving so soon young prince?” I heard Alpha Ronitus say amused. I was not. He was so calm about all of this, when it was partly his fault I was in this situation, because the High Council has to approve all these meetings.
I gave a small growl. It was only enough to let him know I was annoyed, but he didn’t leave. Instead, he crossed his arms, smiling slightly as he did so.
“Be calm, Charred Prince, your father was a rash one as well.” He chuckled, putting a firm hand on my shoulder. “She is so very young; I can smell it. They will not expect anything of her Kaiden, you two have my support, remember that.” He said seriously. It did calm some of my tension, but there were 11 other members, as well as the King to impress.
“I prefer the title of Alpha.” I muttered.
“As you wish, but your Luna will eventually see your true nature soon, Alpha Kaiden.” He said with a smile. I dreaded that he said that. The title ‘Charred’ is there for a reason, it isn’t just for intimidation, or status. That’s why father left. That’s why I refused to return when I came of age.
I let her sleep another 2 hours, while I sat at the dining table on my laptop. Apparently, the moment I left, Beta and Derrick got drunk and pissed on my flowers outside …. Trying to see who could make the longest stream. I growled. I am going to kill those two when I get home, I swear it’s like the pack is run by pups!
“Alpha what’s wrong?” She walked up to me, asking sweetly. I didn’t want to say it out loud, I didn’t want the councilman to hear me, so I told her that Beta was being annoying. She bought it, and I sighed in relief.
“I think we should get ready to leave.” I told her to change the subject.
We drove off in my dented up ‘Stang. I got back on I-97 North to Grandia. I had our passports in the glove compartment. I kept thinking about taking her somewhere nice, like the aquarium. I knew it was only a half hour off route going through the north coastline, and we could stay there for a small amount of time.
It was a dumb idea, but Rakaam was restless, I had been driving for 2 hours now, and 10 yesterday of sitting still in one place, listening to human radio and a sleeping babygirl bored out of her mind. My phone was almost dead, and my car charger sucked, so there was no entertainment other than small talk and looking out the window. This may be one of my only chances at sharing this time with her. Rakaam perked up, the thought of spending quality time with our Luna got his interest, and he nagged me for 30 minutes, the true danger to having a wolf.
“Fuck it, babygirl do you want to go on a quick date?” I ask breaking her sleepy silence. She perked right up and nodded. I made the detour turn to New Apple, the biggest city in the country. I Knew that it was GrayMoon territory, but they should always expect tourists.
After getting stuck in traffic, I made it to an ocean aquarium, it was new, and the lines were long, but it was worth seeing babygirl’s face.
