Book 3: Chapter 3
Tiffany
Zayde had my bags in his right hand, and my hand in his left. I put my trust in him… I’d said my goodbyes.
I waved as we teleported, and I stood in front of a dark gray stoned castle… It had to be likely twice as tall as the Royal Palace of Wolves… looking nothing like it either. It was gothic, with gargoyles lining the crimson shingled, pointed roofs on the spires. Each one was pointed at the top with a metal pike, holding statues of fallen foes of different races, all in silent agony. We were in Romania, birthplace of the First Witch, and vampires.
I felt connected to this place…. since I was a Dark Witch… Magic flowed through the cobblestone road as if it were invisible water…
“This place looks like a fairytale preserved in time….” I mumbled… There were no streets, only a road that we stood in the middle of, made of different kinds of stone. It made a checkered pattern, and at the drawbridge stood someone’s demons… unholy Cow they were massive bat creatures!
It was nighttime, though the sun looked like it’d just set. This is when Dark Witches were active, then until sunrise if they wanted to do grand spells… Our power was halved in the day.
“Welcome to BlackMoon.” He said as a joke in Romanian. He’d done that bit at StoneMoon, father’s pack too.
“Oh stop.” I said shaking my head while grinning.
I wouldn’t laugh to something that corny! Grandpa Kaiden is bad enough….
“You’ll love it!” He beamed. “My room’s up there.” He pointed to the 3rd spire on the left. There were 9 in total, I assumed one for each high-ranking coven member, and their loyal servants in each one…
“Is the one in the middle Lord Alteer’s?” I asked.
“Yeah, but he doesn’t give towers to just anybody. I had to defeat my brother Andrei, the oldest.” He beamed.
“Really?” I said interested… so he was a prodigy like I assumed….
“It was hard, but worth it. My tower has the best internet connection.” Zayde said happily. “But more importantly, I wanted everything to be perfect….”
“That’s sweet.” I said holding his hand a little tighter.
“Lord Zayde, forgive us.” Said a servant rushing out.
“It’s alright. I didn’t send word or anything.” He said putting them down, waving his hand and the bags floated. It was then that he handed them over to the pale servant, and they carried them away. “We have elevators too. There was a large renovation of this place in the 1960’s.” He smiled. “I wasn’t born yet… I’m only 22, but I wanted to look up some cool facts before I got you.”
I cracked a smile. “That’s good to know. What of the defenses? Do you all work with humans?”
“Father does the dome.” He pointed to the veil. It was a thin transparent barrier over the grounds. “Humans can’t pass, so we have our…” He tried remembering the wolf term. “Omega servants to pick up what we need. The locals know though, so watch out. They think we’re vampires” He warned a little sarcastically.
“Wow…” I mumbled.
For humans to know of this place… its location… and even that they allowed their superstitions showed Alteer was Strong…
“Are we headed to your father’s tower now?” I asked.
He looked at his watch. “It’s 5pm here so he’s probably already in his office.”
I walked into the black stoned castle… the black velvet carpet was being swept by Omegas, while accents of all the elaborate candelabras were gunmetal gray. The accent color here was red, but the red velvet’s richness really made the castle’s interior pop.
The grand entrance room was also incredibly wide, and underneath the enormous stairs in the center, was a magic elevator. It was a disk on the floor that would take you to whatever spire, like the inside of a normal elevator, except it could take you left and right too, not just up and down.
The stairs led to likely the towers and wings of the castle, but thankfully, we didn’t have to climb the ungodly amount of stairs…. I know they had carvings in the stone to likely help with that, but it would still take a long time.
The numbers 1 to 9 were on one side, then to the right were the numbers 1 to 40.
“So, the way the elevator works, is like this.” He pressed the number 1, for tower 1, then the number 40, for the 40th floor…. “If you press a floor that doesn’t exist, it used to port you outside, 50 meters in the air… but now it just beeps 3 times loudly.” He smiled.
The blue circle turned red, and we appeared in front of a closed door that read ‘Office’ before I could go back to the stairs! It was thick and black, lined with spikes and metal… and clearly some kind of large cat growled behind it….
“Come in son.” Said a stern voice.
Zayde looked like his father’s copy, except the Coven Leader was a little taller, and stronger…. His voice was more flushed out, and there was no softness to it either. His desk was Tarteron Ebony… the only way to get it was to import it. Places near the in-between that held deposits of Haven and Hell materials could be mined and collected by gifted goblins…
Legen had it that another man race, dwarves also lived in tunnels beneath the border in a great city... but that was hearsay. I know I’d remember reading about the location at the very Least if that were true.
I didn’t see the lightly growling beast, but I did see how neat everything was. His office had a grand view of the entire countryside, and the human village in the distance…. It amazed me… I never met a human before… not even a captured one…. I might get to now! That sounded cool…
I wonder what do humans like? I bet I could get permission to get a gander at them, since they lived so close… They may have been made by the Light… that technically made them the enemy…. but it would be stupid to attack or kidnap someone in a village so close that I could see their streetlights!
I bet they even send stupid tourists here to keep their families safe… I wondered was the mounted unicorn head real…. Was the pencil holder Really a goblin scull, or was it just there to be edgy?
“I present my betrothed.” Zayde said happily, and Alteer smiled.
His teeth were basically all… dark gray fangs with black gums… so they did know some beast magic. The question was, what did they turn into?!
“Sorry dear, I meant to put those away.” He said making them normal. “Now… let me get a look at my new daughter.” He yanked me to him with magic and spun me around… “Welcome to Black Diamond, little Lunarween pumpkin. We’re all a little weird, as the mortals say, but none are weirder than me.” He chuckled. I was placed on the floor gently. “What’s your name?” He asked, already knowing, but I would be polite as well.
He looked as excited as I was about the possibility of my big adventure….
“I’m Tiffany Stone sir.” I said sheepishly. He looked a little sad, but it didn’t stop his cheerful mood.
“Ha! ‘Sir’ is my father. I am Lord Alteer, son of the First Witch, but I’m sure you know that. Don’t look so nervous… Go ahead and do the courting ritual. Zaizaa, go to the basement.”
With a snap of his fingers, a mighty black lioness leaped from behind him… She was so silky, being the size of a male lion…. And shiny… it disappeared in a puff of black smoke.
“Show off.” Complained Zayde.
“Naturally.” He grinned. He waved his hand to motion us to start. As a Coven Leader, he would be the ritual’s witness….
“Let me be your sword.” Said Zayde. He bowed. I did with him, and when I rose I did my part.
“…Let me be your shield.” I said taking hold of both his hands.
“Let me be your strength.” He said happily… we both began to glow, but the carpet ate the energy.
“Let me be your weakness….” I said with a smile. It worked... Under our feet were swirls of our magic mingling together. This was the part we said at the same time.
“I will be what you need, and love all of you… protect all of you… and cherish our time. I will be your spouse, and come the Black Moon, we shall dance and sing, but for now we are compatible. Let us test this love… Let it grow and flourish… .” We both floated.
It was only about a foot off the ground, but when we landed, Alteer clapped.
“Even my black heart is swayed by such poetry. I wish your mother was up here to see it, but she’s finishing the preparations. Hekki’s better at performing marriage rites than I am.” He admitted. “These hands are made for more… violent acts.” He said grinning.
