Book 2: Chapter 60

John
I lapped water from the fountain that glowed a blueish white, seeing how wonderful it was all around me. There was no pain here, or fear…. Only peace. I stood beside my wolf, seeing how big he was for the first time. I felt so small, but we were the same person… I was just a different piece of that person. It felt like looking into a mirror when I saw Terracotta, just the reflection was what I truly was.
“You will need to wake soon.” Said a voice sweetly.
“Please mother, a little longer.” I said feeling sleepy. I didn’t want to let go of this feeling, but what she said gave me a push.
“No no child, my sweet vessel, if you stay you will leave your mate all alone.” She said sadly, and I looked around for where the voice came.
“Then I can endure whatever it is so I can be with her… all the time I get with her on earth is all the time I’ll ever have.” I mumbled.
“I know… I am sorry.” Said the Moon Goddess. “Zuviel worked so hard on her, and I you, that we felt your union would be best. I regret that decision if you do.”
“No. I thank you. She is a very good mate. I’m so lucky I have her.” I said feeling the pain come back.
“My husband calls for me to release you. My child of Night, never fear the darkness.” She whispered. Everything became pitch black, then red before I awoke. I coughed, waking up to my mate asleep on my bedside.
“The gods really are with you son; your heartbeat was so quiet.” Said dad, he looked completely upset.
“I’m so glad you’re ok!” Screamed Heidi, crushing me with her small body. I wouldn’t tell her that she was killing me; she’d move in a little bit. I could handle it for her wellbeing. She smelled of lit matches and fear, but it wasn’t hers… it was like she was in the same room as something else. Or someone else… I can’t remember the dream I had, only that it was really nice.
“I’m fine.” I lied. I literally just got out of surgery seeing all the stitches it took to put me back together. I wouldn’t tell that to her though if she didn’t know.
“Son you may have won, but I don’t think you’re ready.” Said my mother, welling up with tears. She hugged me too, but her touch was much gentler. She knew I was fragile right now, and my bones popped when I hugged her with my good arm.
“Mom, I beat him. Barely, but I Did. This counts… and someone has to stop Herrakken as now we Know that I’m probably the only one who can.” I mumbled, but I was flicked on the forehead by the ass that put me in here. “Hey, easy on the merchandise.” I complained, but he reluctantly bowed.
“An apology isn’t good enough to convey how sorry I am. I went too far… so pent up with pride. I thought this fight was going to be a joke you know. You’re stronger than your brother… you’re stronger than me. If he wants to go for it, I recommend him.” He admitted, but it was my turn. I growled at him weakly.
“All you had to do was submit. Now Both of us are in here, but you seem fine enough.” I grumbled.
“You tell that to someone who hasn’t been challenged in over two thousand years. As an Ancient One, it’s hard to be humble… You’ll soon realize that it’s more effort to pull punches because those around you are so weak. I don’t know how all that power so soon hasn’t gone to your head.” He mumbled angrily. I tried swinging my legs around to sit on the bed proper, and immediately regretted it.
“John no.” Said my mate, but I couldn’t allow this. She tried stopping me, but I couldn’t let him get away with spewing shit out his mouth like that. I hugged her gently, pressing her face to my chest while I glared at him. As much as I wanted to chew him out and snarl at him, I had priorities. She was much too fragile to do that smelling the way I did.
All it would take was a real snarl at him, or displaying the dominance I’d earned these past few months to scare Heidi. There was no telling how long I’d been sleeping, or how much worry she’d felt in her heart for me. She didn’t deserve that. What made me more upset was that he KNEW this. I doubt he could read my thoughts anymore as we were equals, but the grin on his face as I buried hers from seeing this said enough.
As it was, I already carried the scent of an aggressive Alpha right now. I’d fought someone almost to the death and it showed… I almost snapped at Aikesh as if that wouldn’t hurt my mate’s feelings. What was wrong with me? Even in this much pain and injured This badly, I still wanted to fight.
No… I wanted to finish what he started.
“She’s weak cowering in your arms like that.” Said Aikesh with a sneer egging me on, and I growled at him. I kissed my mate on the forehead gently, before picking her up, and setting her on the bed. It was painful to do so, but I made sure to continue to hide that from her in our bond with my wolf’s help. I got up, unhooking the machines from myself.
“What did you just call my mate?” I growled. I’d never held a deep rumble to my growl like this… it actually surprised me, but I wouldn’t show it. In my rage I managed to stand. He had no idea who he was messing with today. I was used to pain, but no one would insult my mate in front of my face.
“You heard me. She is Weak. Frail. She is no Luna… she carries herself lower than an Omega.” He growled. I heard his bones pop into place. He was rapidly healing himself, and walked to my face confrontationally. “Tell me I am wrong.” He used his claws to take himself out his arm cast and threw it on the floor. I heard rustling behind me.
“…. You are wrong.” She growled. “You just want to try and fight my mate again, knowing full well you have an advantage right now.” She snapped. He glared at my mate, but she sat there behind me glaring back.
“You will be silent little wolf.” he sneered.
“That’s enough.” Said his father, grabbing his shoulder, but he shrugged it off.
“No it is not. I cannot let this stand.” He sneered at his father, but my mate spoke up.
“Leave John alone. If you want to fight him again wait until he’s healed… what you’re doing is… is cowardly.” She said trying her best, but there was no intimidation to be had from her…. it touched me to see her try though for my sake.
“I told you to be Silent.” He hissed, and I growled.
Both our fathers shared a link, leaving the room. Mother looked at him as if he were an idiot, and they all left to chat outside the room. They knew something was up, but what it was I wouldn’t know. They didn’t share it with me.
“If you try and hurt him-” he cut her off.
“Or what?” He showed her his fangs, and I’d had enough but he had words before I got to his throat. “What are you going to do? Cry? Tremble?” He mocked, and he screamed. I saw a small ball of black fluff launch from her before he frantically tried getting something off his face.
Her rat got him on the face, clamping down on the bridge of his nose hard enough that there was a small crunching sound. He clawed at Rahrraam, slamming the small creature who now laid on his side on the floor.
My wolf took over before I could react, but whatever his decision, it would be the right thing.
------Heidi------
“No!” I screamed getting to my knees to scoop up his lifeless body. He didn’t deserve that, but I don’t know what he was thinking challenging someone so much stronger than us. I knew my healing spells would do nothing for him, as he was a corpse, but it didn’t hurt to try.
“You should go.” Said Terracotta. He’d taken steps to Aikesh, who still held his bloodied nose.
There was scuffling, as they were fighting again, but even glowing green nothing happened to him. He laid there motionless. He was after all… a rat. A small creature that couldn’t be a real threat to anyone….
I could hear popping at my side, as John’s healing sped up, but he was able to be helped. It was my job to save Rahrraam. A deep red circle with horns developed on his head and I pressed my thumb to it. I spoke words not my own, but I wouldn’t resist.
“Awake and be free from this flesh body. I release you.” I said flowing with a power that I’d never known… I glowed red, and he breathed.
“Your bones will be my toothpick… Ah!” He snarled in pain. His body grew. His form slowly became more human, keeping the thick black fur. His back paws became slightly crimson glowing cloven hooves, and his front became clawed hands. His torso became more of a muscular man, and his rat’s head morphed into one of a black fanged goat that held 6 horns. He opened his eyes with a heavy grunt, revealing emerald snake eyes that were glittering with rage that could be felt.
A whip with multiple sharp tips appeared in his left hand, and he slowly stood, scraping the top of the ceiling. He rolled his shoulders, and patted my head before turning to Aikesh.
“Now say it again.” He challenged. His voice was akin to my dreams, rumbling with a richness that vibrated off the walls.
His shaggy bull’s tail cracked like a whip on the floor, cracking the tile, breathing steam.
“I humbly request you allow my son to live. He is my only son.” Said Alpha Wisp coming back in. I noticed that the older wolves had left… maybe they knew this was going to happen...
“That’s you’re problem, isn’t it? I will not let go he who insulted my mistress, and assaulted her sick lover.” He grabbed Aikesh by the throat, opening his mouth wide. It was unnatural how open he could make it, revealing black fangs. The back of his gaping maw held a deep red glow in the back of his throat… and there were glowing runes on his snake tongue.
“Rahrraam no.” I said sternly, but he looked down at me questioningly. I held no fear of him, and seeing me command him, and having him kneel gave me respect from the Fourth Seat, who worried for his son.
“Mistress why?”
“I’m not going to let you bite his head off.” I commanded loud and clearly. “Aikesh doesn’t deserve it, but Alpha Wisp did help us. For his sake I want you to stand down.”
“…Then can I at least break his legs? Can I have a cookie if he still breathes?’ He asked, and I thought about it.
“Heidi!” He screamed gurgling, clawing at the demon, who honestly didn’t care.
“No permanent damage.” I negotiated.
“You’re no fun….” He asked tossing him in the air, catching, and snapping his legs one by one, dropping him to the floor and kicking him against the wall…
He was out on impact, but I would honor our deal. I linked a nurse to bring some cookies.
“No hard feelings, right?” Said John, but Rahrraam raised a brow.
“If you’re wondering would I kill the mate of my mistress I will not. That level of pain she does not deserve. But your choices are your own. My priority is her life.” He said stiffly, probably thinking of what the Horned One told him.
The nurse came in with a small baggie of cookies, but she almost dropped them when she saw the demon with slightly red glowing hooves in the small hospital room. He shrunk into a shaggy haired olive-skinned naked man taller than John or even his father. He looked about 50, but there were no wrinkles in his face. He looked like a veteran warrior, one who had no problem killing everyone in the room.
He gently took his precious treats from the gawking nurse, and stuffed his face sitting cross legged on the floor.
