Book 2: Chapter 98
Howdy! This took a long time to edit… but also that’s because I’m releasing a new book hopefully by the end of the month. I’ve been working hard on a Very large project. One so big I felt like I had to end some other books to make room for the new ones.
Heidi
Our plans of getting up at nine became noon, but no one bothered us. I put on a purple hoodie, and some black leggings, while he had on just pants. In the back of my mind was the desire to call the Horned One… to go into the woods Right Now and summon him, but doing so would not improve our situation…. Right now, we needed to make sure the pack was Safe, that our plans were being met, any leaders were dealt with… then when we had a chance to fully give him our time… Then and only then could I summon him.
It would be a spit in his face to otherwise. If he felt he wasn’t the only priority, he would likely be Very offended….
I could already tell that his anger grew, but I would Have to put seeing about it off until we handled affairs about both packs.
“I wished they would have knocked. Either that or I should have said a later time.” He grumbled with a yawn, awake but not fully. He didn’t hear me, otherwise, he’d have said something.
“I wished they would have too, but it can’t be helped. They thought we needed the sleep, and we really did.” I said agreeing with him, but I understood why they did it.
“Let’s head in there after we wake up a little more.” John stretched, yawning while I got up to make coffee. There was one in our room, along with some paper cups, but no sugar or cream. That was fine though. I just wanted to wake up.
We made our way to the office that was thankfully set up, and both desks were in there. I flipped the little sign on the door over to ‘open’, and we shared coffee in the silence for about 3 minutes.
Beta Dion and Gamma Garnet both came with paperwork in their hands, but with the smile on Garnet’s face, it had to be good news.
He proudly placed it on John’s desk, giving him a small bow. “I have been officially banished. I am no longer a Shadow, nor a dual pack citizen, meaning that you will receive a replacement, but I can be Gamma. Because the pack is marked, and its members, if I were stationed anywhere else, that pack would be in danger. Priest and hunters alike could follow me.”
They shook wrists. “And I formally annex you into StoneMoon. Welcome Gamma Garnet. I know Ann will be So Happy that you won’t be out there, doing assassin work, but know that you Might on occasion.”
“I don’t mind doing that.” He grinned wide, and sat in front of us. “I must also inform you that no one tried leaving the border last night, so I think everyone took your words to heart.”
“I only told the Truth; the pack is owed that. It would be wrong if I didn’t say anything, and someone left, causing other packs to be slaughtered.”
“How does that even work Alpha?” Asked Dion.
“Well, when Gulteer and I killed the priest, it cursed the pack that all those that hunt us know where we are… a simple but powerful curse, one that I can’t remove.” I said truthfully. “Well… I haven’t tried but without Rahrraam… I don’t have an amplifier for my spells.”
“So he was More than just a battle companion … maybe try summoning him.” Said Dion, trying to help.
“I don’t think it would be a good idea… the Horned One is angered.” I said thinking about how I broke the bond… surely he would never bless me with another demon… As it was, he gave me the youngest son of his Head General…. There would be no demon that could top That…
And both of us will have to answer for it…
“Then if that’s the case, wait a few days…. But don’t put it off. There’s also the chance that he becomes angered because you don’t give him rights.” He warned.
“I’ll do it tonight then for sure.” I said with a small smile, leaving out that he was Already at least disgruntled. But if he couldn’t feel that, I wouldn’t say anything.
Beta Dion’s phone went off.
“In the meantime, Alpha Ronitus requested you two… the King is here.” He said putting it back in his pocket. “I’m coming too.”
“Me too.” Said Garnet.
“Alright. I figured he’d drop what he was doing….” Said John, getting up, grabbing keys that were left on his desk. Those were the keys to the orange truck.
On the way down, I saw Ann, and Garnet gave her a kiss saying that he would be back later. Seeing that made me feel almost as a mother. It was strange wolf magic…. As little as they have, of all the things that were the strongest were pack bonds.
Her bond to John and me made her feel like my child at times… and that she was an adult with a mate made me excited for when we had our own biological ones…but also nervous… My children’s souls are already determined… One will be Herrakken…. the other will be Lady Tiffany.
From the laws of the Coven, and what Gaulteer told me… Lady Tiffany will be a full witch, rejoining the old line because of me…. Herrakken would be a full wolf…. and an Earthen One again… Would he be so stupid as to join Brutus again? Would Lady Tiffany anger the Horned One, dooming her- no Our people again…
“Heidi.” Said John. We were at the car, and I’d zoned out. He was opening the door for me, but chose not to join me in discussion on this. We were around people we could trust, but this kind of information is very magical in nature…. And I’m sure he didn’t want to have them worrying over our pups.
“Sorry.” I said sheepishly.
“Everything is going to be alright Luna.” Said Garnet.
“I hope so.” I said silently.
The drive was uneventful, but seeing how disgruntled the King looked was certainly nothing to sniff at… He was my grandfather, but I could not see that in him at the moment.
He growled, and John pulled over. I don’t know what he’d said to Ron before that, but whatever it was, he held his forehead. He wanted to argue with him, but would not say anything…
“Heidi.” Grandpa said running and hugging me. “You are Safe.” He said with a sigh of relief. “When I heard… that the Right Hand was here I Had to come find you for myself….” He said standing his full height, and taking me with him. “When I scented that not one… but Both Chosen had been here… I could not contain my worry.”
“Your Majesty?” Said John, though he was nearly strangled by the Queen.
“My little grandson wears the Gantlets! I have no more worry for her safety if the Goddess herself chose you to wield them!” I could hear her crack his back with her hugs….
“Yes…. And should you ever wish to be King… know that you have always held the right to do so, but now none would question your reign afterwards.” He said with a smile. “You two have no idea how much worry you put on this old wolf’s heart…. The Right hand Smites, the Left lays hands…. Now One being holds Both titles….”
“…Now one man is backed by the Light…” Added grandma.
“I assume you two both came to do business….” Said John.
“We did that on the way here.” Said grandpa. “I needed to know I was coming to a lush green pack… not the remains of it…”
“In the old times… Rodrick was responsible for many atrocities…. But none were greater than what he did to my pups….” Said the King. “I am unsure if we should go see them or not.”
“Humans led by one so powerful will be Bold.” Said Grandma.
“But that they breathe shows he is Serious about the treaty.” Retorted Grandfather. “I stopped everything for this, since the Church overstepped… His visit here breaks law, however he only came to consolidate his people….” He said as if it were common knowledge.
“Get in the car dears. Now that we know you’re safe, I want you to come with us to confront Rodrick.” Said grandma, but the King shook his head.
“They already encountered the Hands. All I smell on the wind is wolf and Demon’s Blood. My mate they should not go, nor Ronitus or Aemi.” He said with crossed arms.
“When we leave, who will be left behind?” She said with crossed arms.
“They will….” He admitted.
“Who will be the one they call?” She said tapping her foot. I wished she wouldn’t though…. The Horned One as it was, was already enraged. I could feel it under the earth.
“They will.” He said sheepishly.
“Then they Should Come with Us. We are this world’s past; they are its future. All we have done, they inherit, and when we leave this pack, they are the ones who live here.” She said putting a hand on his shoulder.
“What am I to do with you?” He said with a defeated sigh. “Come little ones, but Ron comes too…. Aemi I doubt you will fit in this rental.”
“I suppose not your highness.” She bowed.
“If that is your wish sir.” Said Ron trying not to smile.
They both shared links, but I don’t think I’d ever seen grandfather Laugh like he did.
Wolf-speech profanity was also thrown around by grandma, but I didn’t get any of it. Those three were sharing some kind of inside joke at her expense, and it reminded me of dad and uncle Connor…
We all were squished in the backseat, and I was a little glad that Aemi didn’t come… she wouldn’t fit. Ron and John both took up most of the backseat in the SUV.
“Ron I think you need to go on a diet.” Snickered the King, who rode passenger side since wolves can’t drive.
“Alpha!”
He laughed. “Ah, this is fun. I am so happy that I did not come to document two packs of death.” He said looking back at us in the eyes. “I joke to calm myself.” He showed us his hands. His claws were fully extended. The tips of his fingers were also like red, heated melted iron.
“Unlike wolves with a human side… there’s only so much anxiety and anger His Majesty can handle… and losing a pup would do it.” Ron said the last part quietly.
“Why do I feel like You are the same way father?” said John.
“Because I am…. I knew the moment you killed Herrakken… there’s no feeling that can describe a father outliving his son….” He said with a sad smile. “But also, no better relief than to know wherever he is, he is at Peace… he must atone for his crime... but atonement isn’t forever.”
“One day I will tell you of who we lost, but they are many… and Kings Cannot Die. I have been beheaded, burned alive, sliced by the All King’s sword… the bite of his blade is so engrained in my memory that I can Still feel it if I think about it too much… but we press on.” He said with an inspirational growl.
“We Must.” Said Ron. “We are the leaders of our people… and as painful as old wounds may be… we cannot stop to tend them. Just as I was confronted with Gulteer after all these years…. your majesty I am with you for Rodrick…”
“I will need it.” He said looking out the window.
“Even if there are only Two wolves on this Whole World left, it is still a pack.” Said the Queen. “We are this world’s lingering past, but you two are its future. I feel as though you two will not grow if we coddle you either.”
“It is partly why this Must be addressed. They crossed a line, breaking treaty terms by knowing your pack’s location. Even though it cannot be helped… As I smell priest’s blood on your land even this far away… By Treaty Law, the attack was Illegal, therefore No retaliation of any kind should have happened, even retrieving the body.”
“I didn’t know that.” Said John.
“Nor did Ron. He was too worried to remember.” Said grandpa.
