Book 2 Chapter 42

Heidi
I had had this dream every night for two months, but there was something different this time… He dug bare clawed through solid stone, sniffing the air as a man in a thick blue parka. He was alone in the wilds… though he seemed to have gone mad looking for it. He talked to himself often… and there was a metal ding that sounded like a bell… though it was rusted, rotted, and covered in a thick sheet of ice…. It had responded to being touched, glowing slightly, but fading just as fast.
“This must be it!” Said Herrakken, smiling evilly.
He held its dull unpolished nature to the sun. “Gauntlets made by the Lady herself, hear my plea… give me the power to crush all in my path!” He roared, smiling, though it soon became a frown. “Mighty Gantlets of Grendel, the First of Us, activate!” He snarled.
The only thing that responded was the harsh wind.
“Work damn it! I could rival the king himself with this…. If I could get it to work.” He grumbled.
He clawed at an ice incased necklace, chipping away at the ice little by little, walking in a blizzard. He fell face first in slushy snow, falling into a hidden river, but he managed to get out of it. He took off his clothes, and rubbed his skin with fresh snow, seemingly trying to dry himself before shivering, and gathering the driest logs he could find. He found dry grass, fashioning it into a nest, and made a bow drill with a lace from his shoe to start a small fire.
He put the necklace around his neck. Once he had enough small sticks, he tended it until it was blazing, and put his frozen stiff clothes on sticks before shifting into a slightly wet dark brown wolf. He shook his fur and howled a mighty roar that scared me, but there was a flash of another wolf… one bigger than grandfather. He was ink black, but his eyes were golden yellow. He stood next to a smaller wolf who was gray with black tipped fur, and ruby eyes. They looked like they were hunting something, though I didn’t know what… I didn’t understand the language they spoke.
They both looked at me and growled charging me.
I jolted awake, being held by my mate for the fifteenth very early dawn in a row…. Because until then they weren’t startling. “Sorry.” I mumbled.
“Did he find it yet?” Asked John, and I nodded my head. He was quiet a long time.
We were back home in Lapis, because with his brother occupied like that, we could focus on things getting back to some kind of normalcy. Anastasia also was coming back today, and Garnet would pick her up himself. John and I would be with Alpha Ron, so we could be safe. Also today was another training day.
“He did… but it doesn’t work though. I think it won’t for him since it started to glow, but then it faded.” I said rubbing his back, feeling bad that I woke him up again.
“Well one can only hope that necklace has some common sense.” He joked getting up. He stretched, showing that he was completely different from even a few days ago…
His body was accelerated, looking like he had been an Alpha for years… though at the moment he ruled nothing. At least not yet… There were homes being built about 20 miles away for the wolves from Californiya. John had told me what his father had planned, but he felt he wasn’t ready.
He certainly looked it though. He fought for hours throughout the day, and it was 4am, almost time for the first one at 4:30. There was no need to set an alarm, because I seemed to wake every day at this time no matter what time I slept. Luna Aemi trained me personally. It was more Luna duties, because mom taught me allot, though not everything.
I was convinced that I would have never needed it. Just my luck that my mate is an Alpha in training. He snickered. “If I can’t complain you can’t either.” He teased, picking me up, and carrying me to the bathroom. I blushed!
“John No!” I squealed, but he already had me in the shower and turned on the water with me in my pajamas. He laughed while I splashed him as best as I could with the water. Lady damnit!
“Sorry Heidi, I couldn’t help myself.” He giggled taking off his shirt to join me!
“Ah!” I screamed blushing, but not turning away either. There was nowhere to turn! He stuck his thumbs in his pans, pulling the elastic before letting them snap back.
“Ok I’m done now.” He teased me one more time, before leaving out, but he was nice enough to put a towel and the clothes I picked out last night on the sink.
“I would thank you, but you’re being a butt!” I yelled, only to hear him laugh harder than he already had.
“Ok lil’ matey, I apologize for being an Ass.”
“Lady…” I facepalmed, taking a quick shower before it was his turn. We were probably going to run late. For me it only meant a stern talk to, but for John his father would pretty much kill him.
He practically threw water on himself when it was his turn, put on some jogging pants and carried me all the way to the packhouse running at a breakneck speed. He had gotten an offer of the entire Beta Floor, but he refused. I did with him. It would mean everyone else would have to move…
He flew threw the doors and up the stairs with me, knocking on his father’s office door, but it didn’t matter.
“4:31” Said his father, pointing to the clock. “No breakfast or lunch. Only training. Dinner is what you hunt.” He growled fiercely.
“I challenge for my meal father.” John snarled back, sounding legitimately scary.
“Challenge accepted boy. If you can get me out the ring, I will make it myself.” He grumbled, shaking the windows.
They went outside. “Come Assistant Luna, if your mate wins, I will let you sit in my chair.” She said sweetly, though I had one next to her…. I did want to sit in hers though because it looked really comfortable.
I agreed, and we both followed them to see that they were already circling a white chalk line as wolves, and they ruined their clothes. They pranced with tails high, stomping the ground with their back feet before facing each other, silently, then charging. They snapped at each other, though John did quick movements since he was now to his father’s chin.
Good boy but you have to be wilder than that! I am not your father right now! I am your enemy! He snarled though it was translated by Luna with a link. They twisted and snapped at each other like a real fight, and in each of their eyes was a seriousness that made me and Luna Aemi worry. They began to draw blood… and I wanted to break it up but no one would let me. A crowd had gathered, but none interfered.
Then feel my might! He snapped, missing.
“Trust in Alpha little one.” Said a battle scarred warrior, and there were murmurs of agreement.
I didn’t say anything, I just watched as they seemed to stalemate, but with his father so much bigger than him, he probably didn’t want to kill him. He had knocked John back, sending him flying, though he always seemed to aim at just before the line they drew so he wasn’t out of bounds.
There was also a small crowd of a ten or so shadows, though Garnet was gone to pick up Anastasia.
He dodged his father by the fur on his face, and lunged at his father. Ronitus reared on his back legs, clawing the air, getting John on the arm deeply but he didn’t stop. He quickly spun, getting his father by the throat and using the momentum he had, made his father take three steps back.
“Out of bounds!” Yelled Luna, and they both shifted. He ruffled John’s hair aggressively, though his throat bled a little.
“Look at the progress you have made! I’m so proud of you, my son. Come. Eat your breakfast, I will make it myself as promised. Soon you will be ready.” He said with a wide smile.
“Let me heal you.” I said running to them, though Alpha was already healed.
“I went a little overboard, heal John.” He smiled, but my mate fake whined.
“No love for me…. I will die now.” He pretended to die while I healed his arm. It was deep, but nothing I couldn’t fix. He held me now that he was healed, but hugged me and put some of his weight on my shoulders. The warriors giggled at us, but I didn’t get why.
“There, now stop dying.” I complained, only just now realizing that he was naked and pretty much rubbing his body all over me! I blushed, but he held me, kissing me gently before letting me move. He growled a little, before smelling my hair.
“I am revived. Thank you, my little red beat.” He was completely amused that he’d made me blush, but his stomach growled something fierce.
“You’re welcome, my naked mate. let’s go in, I can hear you’re hungry.” He didn’t object to that, because we could already smell Alpha was cooking. He got pants, and we all sat at the table. Alpha would make breakfast, and serve us, something I hadn’t seen since I left home. It was pretty much unheard of, since they were in charge. They were served, never the ones on the serving end.
“Heidi… an Alpha who does not serve his people is no Alpha, he is a coward.” Growled Ronitus. “With my might I hold this power. The power to crush my enemies, but in my hands, I hold the fate of six thousand souls… plus four thousand more. As council, all shifters are in my care. I Must be better than those before me, and lead an example those after can look up to. That is the legacy of a Real Alpha.” He roared, shaking the window, getting claps.
“Yes, but most of the time we get idiots who like the smell of their own farts.” Joked Beta Isaac, coming down the stairs, rubbing his eyes.
