Book 2 Chapter 53
A/N: I didn’t feel it was right to post why I left up here. It’s in the comments. I love you guys, sorry for being gone so long, but I had to sort myself out before I came back.
Heidi
We got on our clothes, and my rat went right in my pocket. Many of the other wolves had already got their clothes and shifted. “Thanks for putting away my stuff with yours.” Said John going up the stairs, though I didn’t mind.
“Well… can’t have you running around naked.” I tried making a small joke, and he gave me a peck on the forehead.
“If I did the only wolf that would freak out would be you.” He chuckled, holding my hand. We walked to the packhouse together, getting bows of respect, and it was nice to notice that there weren’t any side glances or anything toward me for once. We went up the stairs together too, walking into the office.
“Are you ok?!” I asked Alpha. Ronitus had five large gashes on his back, most likely from grandpa… it wasn’t deep, but it did worry me to smell blood in the office.
“I’m already half healed. Punishment for negligence. His majesty is gone, but I’m glad he only punished me with this.” He was so casual about it, organizing paperwork.
“Father I should have done something about Jesse sooner.” Grumbled John, but Alpha chuckled.
“I suppose too it’s your fault that she chose her actions? Hindsight is 20/20. Come, change her status in the pack registry. You did better than I expected honestly…” He said quietly, and John logged in. He printed out some things, and signed them, as did his father.
“If you thought I was going to let her get away with trying to attack my mate in front of me you can forget it…” He mumbled. “At least I didn’t have to kill him too...”
“No, but know that it is possible…. I doubt it, but there’s a chance he may be bitter about his child’s death. He claimed he saw it beforehand… but that doesn’t mean that he won’t try and seek revenge.” He grumbled, looking out the window. “Now that I think of it… maybe we should move him to the outer ring for the time being…”
“I won’t argue with you. I trust your judgment, but wouldn’t that leave him access to the hunting grounds?” Asked John, but Alpha thought about it a second.
“He’s an elder class Shadow. He is still technically their clan’s leader until today, but not the pack… honestly I could put him in a glass cage, and he would find a way out.” He mumbled. “Though I still can’t risk him hurting you or Heidi…”
“Then for now, let’s move him to the Omega section of the pack, that way he can protect them or something….? I also doubt he would want to stay in a house that carries the scent of his pup.” Asked John, and Alpha nodded.
“He may have broken his oath, but I still trust him… he didn’t put up a fight even though he could have…or escaped.” I said quietly, and Luna Aemi knocked on the door.
“The King sends word that we are to deal with Herrakken soon. We must find him, and the order is to kill him if he does not come peacefully.” She mumbled silently.
“It seems the Horned One is busy….” Said Ronitus, but I spoke up before Rahrraam bit him. I could feel the resentment off such a small creature, so I would correct it before it made drama.
“Actually… the Lord of Night has nothing to do with what we do; we make our own choices.” I said quietly, but he laughed.
“Forgive me Child of Darkness, it’s only a turn of phrase.” He chuckled.
“She says that for the demon in her pocket dear.” She mumbled, and I picked him up, and eyed him. I didn’t feel anything other than…. Small animal. He couldn’t be something so dangerous.
“Great, I don’t know if this peace time has me soft, or am I getting old.” He grumbled.
“Neither Ronitus, he’s encased in rat’s flesh…. I only noticed that he was so behaved. Riding her back earlier and now sitting in her pocket. Completely and utterly unafraid of all the howls and snarling; either it’s blind and deaf, or it’s a high-level demon.” She said casually.
“Heidi… that thing isn’t going to eat anyone is it?” Asked my mate glaring at him.
“No, because I would forbid it.” I shielded him with my hand by putting him in my pocket, and he licked my fingers.
My mistress… he squeaked sadly, but I rubbed my thumb between his ears.
“They are bound by word and blood, though she is his master.” Said Luna, and I cleared my throat…. This wasn’t something to discuss with the doors open…
“Um… what about Herrakken? I asked to change the subject… this was a conversation for another time with him.
“All you had to do was ask me to drop it.” Smiled Luna. “Well… from your visions my guess is that he must be somewhere close to one of the Diamond Covens. I believe there’s six.”
“I thought there was only one. The High Matron bragged about how her future grandchildren were promised to Lord Flen of Black Diamond’s grandchildren.” I said quietly, but she shook her head.
“Just as there is more than one color of diamond, the Horned One created more than one line. There’s six that we know of: blue, green, purple, orange, red and black. In that order of power from least to greatest. He means to find the Purple Diamond Coven of Russia.”
“But they won’t help him… the Horned One will be upset if they mess with something made from his wife. We have to stop him!” I said thinking of the destructive powers he was messing with. He may have been docile in my visions… but offending him never ends well for the living.
“I don’t think they will, but I think I should go. Someone has to watch the sleeping Old One now that he’s been disturbed.” Said John.
“You’re right, touching the key was enough to have him stir. Not sensing my presence in the pack may trigger an escape attempt, but you are not ready...” Mumbled Alpha, but John growled.
“Then let me fight Wisp’s son to prove it! If I can’t defeat him, I’m no match for my brother, we already discussed this.
“…Son I don’t want you to get killed…,” Said Alpha. “but this was already discussed….”
“Father have a little faith in me.” he said putting a hand on my shoulder. “But I will not be gone long.” They spoke so casually about it, but I would not let him leave alone!
“I’m going too! The High Matron and Lord will not see you if you’re just a wolf without an appointment, Lower Prince or not.” I shook John’s arm, but he looked down at me.
“Heidi, would they see you….? I don’t want to risk you getting hurt because they hate you before they get to know you…” he mumbled, but I got Rahrraam out my pocket.
“In the eyes of the witch world. I am a witch now… even though I don’t have a secret name, I still have a familiar and the same patron; that counts for something.” I Said sternly, but he looked at me angrily.
They will die in hellfire before I let them hurt you. Rahrraam squeaked angrily, jumping on the floor.
“… Did he just cross his arms and frown?” Asked John. “Why did I doubt that thing had a mind… little shit.”
Bastard. He squeaked, though no one else is meant to understand one’s familiar except yourself.
“I swear to the Lady Heidi that thing sounds like it was cussing me out.” He grumbled.
Because your feeble mind cannot comprehend but your ‘little mate’ can. He jumped on Luna’s desk, and got a piece of paper, neatly folded it, and took it with him into my pocket.
“…. I will call Esmond.” Said Alpha Ron.
“I’m taking my mate home, just call me when he’s here.” Grumbled John.
“It’s going to take him a few days to be ready, so I will have you both off until then.” Said his mother, though her smile faded…. I could only assume they were both worried, especially since we would be going to another country… and he would be fighting impossibly older ancients.
John held my hand gently, and downstairs, the keys to his truck were given to him by a warrior, who was a short stocky man with brown hair with frosted tips.
“Alpha.” Nodded the Warrior, and John nodded back. “I am Warrior Kenneth sir.” They shook wrists.
“I assume you have a report on the completion of the Hunt?” He asked and he scratched the back of his neck.
“Yes sir, it is complete, and the body is currently burning…. Shadow Commander skinned it and presented her pelt to her majesty.” He whispered full of fear… oh no.
“Her majesty?” He mumbled, and the warrior looked toward the door.
“Yes sir… the Queen resurrected her so she could kill her herself….” He mumbled, and all three of us shared a look.
“Where is she now?” He asked, and he looked like he didn’t want to answer.
“Um…. Well… she said she would meet you at your home…” He whispered.
“Then we will be there shortly.” He said quietly, and we went outside, getting in the car. You could still hear the howling, and the snarls. Some of the wolves since they were outside and shifted already must have decided to hunt together and share the kill. It made Sparkle wag her tail, and I was glad I was with my mate.
