Book 2: Chapter 107

A/N Get ready for the wild ride that was the reason why editing took so long.... sorry I've been gone. I'm working on an ambisious series, and I scrapped... a lot... about 72 pages.
Heidi
John was out doing his part, protecting the forest. It was foggy out there, and the sun was already down, but I needed to prep some things. I got a spare change of clothes, my broom, spells, a wand, and my magic study room bag.
Regardless, I Had to make a phone call, and I Needed to fix this. I called Hellinia. It was an 8 hour difference, meaning my 5pm call was 1am for them. About now, they would be either having lunch or tending the barrier.
It rang about 3 times before she answered.
“Are you Ready now?” She asked. She knew about Rahrraam’s death… he was the fourth born to the Head General. He was basically a prince… but I would not allow what happened to keep its grip on me.
“… I need a familiar as much as I need to make amends with the master.” I said silently. It didn’t feel right calling him Night Father… I didn’t have that connection with him in my heart anymore…
“Then use your portal stone so you can teleport Here. We can help you, and more importantly, you will be able to do this safely without further damaging your property.” She said casually. “You still have it right?”
“It’s always in my pocket.” I smiled.
I felt in the pit of my stomach that I was doing the right thing…. But I didn’t want them to be involved with My sin…. They’d just gotten their curse lifted. I’d hate to have his ire sent their way…. But I also Needed their help… this was a ritual I could not do alone.
Originally…. The Horned One just Gave me Rahrraam…. But the ritual needed to summon another takes at least five people.
I pulled the stone out my pocket. /I’m using my portal stone to go to the coven now.’ I linked.
/ I will continue to watch the border…. To my understanding, you return back to where you used it./ John linked back.
/Yeah, it’s why I’m using it in our room in the packhouse. / I linked. If I would have gone to the woods, I would use a lot less energy to teleport, but I’d be likely adding to the Horned One’s presence in the woods as a tradeoff.
For that reason alone, I chose not to. I’d rather be a little winded than endanger my people more.
/I love you. If you are in Any danger, come Home./ he warned.
/I will. I love you too./ I said holding the stone and focusing on what the coven mansion looked like.
I closed my eyes and opened them after I felt as if I jumped in the air. I was right at the front door, and the quarter moon was out tonight.
The door was opened immediately by Xeh’zahrraam-Bash’eer, though his face at me was stern…. I could not meet his intense gaze. Now that Hellinia had become a coven matron, he received a title, a slight name change, and additional powers to aid her.
“Sorry….” I said with shame, and I could hear him snort like a bull.
“He Lied to the Master. He was Dead to me the Moment I heard he’d committed such Blasphemy.” He growled.
“The Pit was Too Kind.” Said Grenadinia’s demon, Yeh’Krahrraam.
“There was nothing I could do… nothing I could say to change the master’s mind…” I said a little defeated.
“Lying to the Master in his Face was too much of an insult. Had you ignored his cries, he Might have been remade. This is my third body.” Said Xeh’Zahrraam proudly.
“But then again, he lied without her there, and he sealed his own fate brother.” Said his brother as if he were thinking out loud.
“Come with me.” Hellinia’s familiar said turning on his heels after a stiff nod, and walking swiftly to the basement.
I had to nearly run to keep up, but Hellinia was down there, drawing the circle with her… our sister. “Ah, Heidi! The circle’s done… now you need to go out and get yourself a sacrifice.” She smiled.
“We will help you!” Beamed Grenadinia
“Sacrifice?” I asked, hearing them fine… but it was the one thing I wasn’t so sure about.
“Well… to summon a demon you need to find a human life. Innocent ones are fine, but sinners are his favorite. Oh, and the less damaged the better.” She said summoning a pair of handcuffs.
“With those, they will beguile any human into just sitting patiently on a broom.” Said Hellinia.
“…. I’ve never hunted a human but if they’re out on your lands… they Already broke the treaty.” I said with a little confidence…. not much, but it was There. I took a deep breath. “But if I don’t find any sinners… I don’t Want to take the innocent.” I said with a firm nod.
“We feel the same way. If they haven’t been here on our lands longer than a week, I can erase their minds without it becoming mush.” Said Hellinia. “With us, it isn’t like other covens. They Need prep time, energy, and whatever else… I can just Do it. So don’t worry, worrywart. I’m your big sister; I won’t let you down.” She beamed.
“… I can agree with that.” I said reaching my hand down into my bag, and summoning the broom I left in there.
A small twinge of regret pained my heart….
I pressed on… I Knew that was part of the ritual… I’d had half a year to read tome after tome in my library. It was part of why I was so tired… but also without a familiar, energy that Would go to him still is released. However, that becomes an issue because there isn’t anyone there to store that energy if it’s not being used.
A demon for a Dark Witch is like a rechargeable battery powered wand, shotgun, and ammo pouch all in one. But they are Not easy to tame…
“Stop worrying so much; that frown will give you wrinkles!” Smiled Hellinia. “You are a Dark Witch, sending a Sinner to Hell. You do Nothing Wrong…. Before the war, that was originally our job. Mother used to tell us about it.” She said summoning her broom.
She got on and gently floated up the stairs. I followed them, getting on mine. “I guess while we search I could tell you her wisdom.” She said with a small smile.
“Go ahead.” I beamed. Their familiars shrank, becoming black rats. Hellinia led the way, jumping out a window.
At first, we went about gliding speed. Hellinia was in the front, while me and Grenadinia were behind her making a V formation. We got about 200 feet in the air, and she began to explain herself when we soared over the deep part of the woods at a breakneck speed. We flew out the protection bubble too… so Anything could happen.
Hellinia shouted over the wind while we soared higher. “Well… back when the Master’s son ruled, he punished indiscriminately. If you did not hold the Master’s mark, you were meat. Grandfather… he felt the same. We too searched for the Keys of the Moon Goddess’s realm, but we didn’t find it. Dark Witches tortured and ate humans, though even mother admitted that for the most part, they caught sinners. It’s easier to get their energy. They are Evil, so much so that their destination is already Tarteron. Us taking a bit before they’re sent where they need to be doesn’t hurt anything.”
We stayed in formation, and I confirmed a target. “Hey I smell someone!” I shouted over the wind.
“I can see his soul.” Hellinia pointed. “You can too. Change your eyes to your wolf’s and focus on the energy.”
I was confused a bit by her instructions, But I Did see red. It was really dim, but I could see the X on his soul. The man down there was a sinner.
“Now, you’re going to repeat after me.” Said Hellinia. “Chains of Hell, capture me a Sinner.” She commanded.
I repeated it, and the shackles glowed red, almost yanking themselves out my hand. We all dived behind it, as if we’d practiced this every day. Down there, the man said nothing looking off into the distance with glassy, brown eyes. His hands were cuffed, and he was in a daze.
He spoke in Russian, and Grenadinia translated. “He said what’s happening. He will be aware of everything we do to him, but he will be unable to do anything about it.”
“Ask him what sin he committed. We can tell, but you’re still a witchling.” Said Hellinia looking at him. He looked like a normal person…
“He said ‘I am a hitman. The job went sour after he stole from both parties.’.” Grenadinia translated, though he sounded almost as if he were drugged.
“Alright. Load him up Heidi.” Said Hellinia. “He’s on the Very edge of our border anyway.”
“Don’t worry for the other humans about…. 5 miles away. They are lost but they turned around on their own. Hover up a bit.” Said Grenadinia. She got off her broom and waved her finger, binding him with magical rope, then tying him to the bottom of the broom so he’d just dangle there like that.
I said nothing more. This was something I Had to do… and I figured I really was doing the world a favor by removing him…. Him being a sinner was convenient. It meant that he Belonged in hell, not that I was just sending a random person there.
“Remember Heidi… Sacrifice is from the heart! Do you Want to do this?” Asked Hellinia.
I thought about it for a moment…. But I’d made my decision a while ago.
“Yes.” I said with conviction. “At the end of the day, I Need a familiar as much as I want to right this… the world can do without a murderer and a thief…”
“How do you know he won’t change his ways if we allow it?” Asked Hellinia. She was testing my resolve.
“…. But he won’t… his sin is so red it literally glowed before we got him.” I said going high in the air, about 200 feet again. “Plus even If he did, he’d probably get killed first before he got a chance to finish his penance….”
She nodded. “But there is still a Chance no matter how small. You rob this man of that chance… and your sacrifice will murder him. Are you ok with that? Can you accept accountability for the level of sacrifice needed? This isn’t a rabbit or goat roasted for the master. This is Fresh Man Flesh, sent to Hell Whole.”
“I do what I must. He had his whole life to do the right things, and he Chose to do what he does… and with that being said, so do I. I am without not only my energy store, but my magic assistant… I took him for granted. Rahrraam was an experienced high demon… one who was the son of the Horned One’s first demon…. Rahrraam even lied for Me so Only he would be punished. I am being selfish right now… but so was he taking the lives of others for monetary gain.”
“I think you get it.” She grinned.
