Chapter 45
Eclipse
“Are you ok?” He asked silently asking to look at my arm in wolf’s body language. It seemed him and Alpha did that a lot, and I don’t think they noticed that they were doing it. “Oh sorry.” He said standing back up before he touched my arm. “Let me take a look at it.” He said glaring at the cut as if he’d been hurt.
“Go ahead.” I told him. He gently unwrapped it, motioning his mate to come and look too. “What do ya’ think Nanners?” He asked. She glared at him.
“I hate that nickname.” She grumbled, and he smiled that he’d purposefully teased her. “It’s deep…. That’s definitely going to leave a scar, but it should be healed before Alpha gets back.” She said going into the kitchen, and she got some ointment from a Warrior. “Let me.” She said quietly. It stung at first, and I’d learned from my broken leg not to make noise. If I did her good intentions would have been seen as an attack by the already fired up Warriors left to protect me.
“It stinks.” I complained. The heavy scent of alabaster mint and red eucalyptus oil almost burned my nose until it was covered with a new bandage. Magical herbs littered the world, and they used them on me to help.
“It’ll aid with scarring and healing Luna.” She said gently patting it. “Pain too. Doesn’t it feel better?” She asked and I nodded.
“I do… maybe he won’t freak out when he sees this will he?” I asked and Beta chuckled.
“Nah.” He said jokingly. “I was just messin’ around with the barbeque thing.” He said shaking his head, linking his mate.
----Kaiden----
Training this entire time was needed, and I would not relent until I collapsed. The only thing that drove me was protecting my pack… I did good on interrogating the human, but it would mean nothing if my plan failed because I was weak. My wolf snarled at that thought, and I got a bit of a second wind.
I lifted more weight on the dumbbell set in my office. I was on my back. I was much more fit now compared to when I first became Alpha, but if I could push myself farther, I would. I let the sweat run down my brow, as I’d been at this three hours. It wasn’t enough. I set them down, opting to go outside. The sun was at my back, but I was not done.
I had to make sure that my strength did not fail me. I ran around the entire pack territory; I ate only human and raw game. Man’s meat served no purpose other than protein, but since I had been attempting to regain my body condition, I did need it.
This went on for four days in a row, because each day, I got closer to the goal of being stronger. I pushed myself until I was on the verge of collapse, then I would allow Rakaam to heal us, and do it again. My natural diet was pure protein, but I tried keeping Eclipse from seeing that as best as I could.
As one of the King’s blood, it was what I damn near craved during my training regimen anyway. As an Alpha who had to defend my territory From human men, it was a good idea to get the taste of their blood in my mouth and still control Rakaam. I Had to be fit. I Must be ready. As it was, I was already at a disadvantage since I know they will have silver, our one weakness. All under my command were too, and I knew they would have pounds of it….
This is what I did for the second, third, and fourth days. Admittedly the first day I had to get my head out my ass for missing babygirl… Those who stayed behind with me were shown no mercy because of this. I sparred with all the warriors that would dare, and there were many of them around. I made sure not to hurt anyone, I just wanted to train.
In human form we fought hand to hand. It was a good refresher for any who were rusty and as wolves, we fought with teeth and claw, but not to draw blood. Sparring as the wolf was best, because it teaches us to hone and tame our instincts. The last thing I need is a Warrior out there letting his wolf have full control.
And after 4 days, I fell asleep. I could fight no more, you can’t heal the mind, the mind needs rest. I had no dreams, though I slept light enough that if someone came near I would be ready.
When I woke up, I looked at myself in the mirror. I was trim, my muscles perfection. My black hair had grown to the middle of my back, and seemed darker than before. This worried me, but I ignored what it meant. I just used one of my mate’s rubber bands. I was ready to kill, and I felt ready for them to come.
Then her scent filled my nose. It was faint, almost a week old… but it was there. I looked at the empty bed, I saw all her clothes and books, and her spare glasses that she always forgets…. I sighed, missing her more. Being away from her so long pushed me hard in my workout, because when you feel isolated, anything to pass the time is better than feeling like an eternity of loneliness. I hoped she remembered I loved her so very dearly, and I had to get back to business, unfortunately I couldn’t think of her in here forever… I also hadn’t had the time to email her or find my phone wherever I threw it last…. So she hadn’t spoken with me in a while…. My guess would be however long I was asleep for.
I went downstairs before Rakaam could have a comment and Derrick was in the packhouse eating human food. I went into the fridge and found the last of the steak that was delivered. I just grabbed it and started eating.
“Woo, good morning Alpha Ripped, enjoy the 2-day sleep?” he said with a smirk, I patted him on the shoulder before sitting down.
“Reports.” I commanded bluntly, Warriors stood at the ready, listening for what Derrick had to say. “Well, I saw an unmarked delivery van yesterday, it turned around at the pack line, so they’re probably going to try tonight.” He stated, eating a fried egg with toast.
I bit into my raw meat. “We do this as we planned, we allow them to make it halfway to the village, then get their tires with the homemade road spikes. Once they’re out the car, they will have guns, so everyone needs to be in position, we don’t need casualties. I want everyone on high alert. And one more thing. If you are shot, don’t stay in the fight. We don’t have guns, but they Do.” I warned. “Go to the infirmary and get any silver bullets removed, because the wound won’t stop bleeding, nor will it heal.”
“Yes Alpha.” They all said more or less at the same time.
They nodded and left, but time after that went at a snail’s pace. I so desperately wanted to call babygirl but my distraction would likely start a chain reaction, not to mention be a terrible example…. No one was on their phones by my order, so no one had spoken with their mates either. The sun was getting low, and if not for everyone being at the ready, I would have relaxed. The scent of stress and aggression fueled my wolf to be alert.
This alertness was more than anything I’d ever experienced…. Even the game animals and birds shared our tense silence, as if they too knew this was coming.
I waited what seemed like years, and finally we got the signal. A mind link that 3 unmarked vans had entered the territory.
We waited silently in the forest, while they were probably overconfident, thinking that we had no idea. I linked everyone to be in position, but being unseen was the priority. If they saw, it would be over, since they would stop before the trap…
They were into position soon enough, and their tires popped. It made a small chain accident, but they all swarmed out, guns in hand, ready to fight, pillage, and steal the pelt off my back. That is all I was to them, a prize, and they would kill everyone in the pack for just me, my mate would be too small.
I roared the roar of Challenge, but they didn’t know what that was. To them it was only a beast within the woods, rumbling throughout the forest. It scattered deer and birds alike, and they all hustled to a formation circle. It looked like 30 men, 10 for each van.
/Attack!/, I mind linked the warriors. Some of the smaller wolves were in trees as humans, jumping down and ripping out throats, while others charged in full wolf form, crunching the men with ease since there was a distraction.
Unfortunately, the distraction didn’t last forever, and they shot in random directions, hitting some of the warriors, but they stuck to my plan.
/All who are injured retreat. All who are at the packhouse, relieve your brothers and sisters. / I linked, turning into my human form. Rakaam was upset that I did so, however I’d seen something I needed hands for. They were reloading, getting supplies, and shouting orders at each other, but one stood out that made me whip my head around.
“Just throw it!” Yelled a human like an Alpha would.
