Chapter 13

Kaiden
With clothes in my mouth, I ran to the prison with haste. It took my wolf an hour to run, as my body was sore from yesterday. But I know that if I am nearly healed, that little bastard was at least conscious. Today he will know who is in charge. Honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever let him out that cell, but if I do, it will be when his spirit is completely broken.
I change back, put my clothes on and walked in, everyone behaving the usual way. I wasn’t mad at the fucker like I thought I’d be, but a message had to be conveyed. The well-lit, straight halls were my playground, and everyone who was stuck with me for the rest of their life new better than to attract my attention.
He was at the far end on the wolf section’s second floor, sitting on the bed, head down. He looked like he had been defeated, he looked pathetic in that cell. He should be. He threatened my mate with the fate of death, this was the one disrespect I could not ignore. He caught my scent and looked up at me with sorrowful eyes, like the pup he was, expecting to be forgiven, like a child who drew on the wall and expected no punishment.
“Kneel” I growled, he kneeled, head down, hand and knees on the floor. He knew he had no power here. He was surrounded by my men he tried to steal. The prison guards, the warriors, the normal pack members that did their job to keep everything simple were mine. I pulled out my whip, its nine tails hit the floor with an audible thud. I had two that I mainly used, but for him, he would get the leather tip. Silver tips were for only the worst of the worst, and he had not committed a crime great enough for that level of punishment.
He let out a big breath, realizing that no mercy would be given.
I grabbed him by the scruff of his neck, and I looked him in the eyes. “Today, you will receive a lash for every disrespect you have given me, and if you bleed out on the floor, no one will miss you. No one will save you here. You challenged me and lost, and by law you are now mine to do with as I see fit.” I sneered.
He held his head down, knowing his fate was sealed.
“Prepare yourself; you will receive no less than ten lashes for your actions. Whether you join this pack or remain a Rogue, only fate can decide.” I said linking my guards.
They tied him to the back of his cell, he did not resist. He knew better that it would not help him, and I would kill him if he tried to escape. There was a deep breath taken. He could hear me razing the whip. Rakaam was pleased, knowing that he was the superior wolf, but we would not allow him to get off scott-free.
Each lash he did not scream, which made me whip him harder. Each lash, he did not move, accepting his fate. I could see the bruises left from our fight reappear and ooze, as they had not fully healed. He finally collapsed, unable to hold himself up anymore. I lashed him one last time for good measure. He was a warrior, and he would die with pride. But his heart still beat, so he was still mine to punish.
“I will come back tomorrow.” Growled Rakaam, our eyes almost completely red.
There was submission throughout that floor. All had heard the painful snaps of my whip, and not a head was raised. Each and every one of the wolves here were mostly here from other packs. They’d all done some terrible thing or another, and for it a good bit of their lives were to be served here.
Humans were here because about three fourths of them were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Many were just regular humans that got lost or were drunk, but could not be released since that meant they would know our location. They would talk, and eventually the other quarter that were HeadHunters would become a problem. They always were the very few who made trouble, and today was no different. I wanted to go back to my Luna, but it would have to wait. There was trouble, and if I didn’t deal with it immediately, it would only make more problems later.
“Alpha Kaiden, the human in 407 attacked Guard Tenri.” Said the head guard of level 4. This guard captain was only 6’2, short for a male, but what he lacked in height, he made up for in being organized. Beauford was a stocky, red-blonde wolf with grey eyes. I’d had him on this post for over 110 years, but for the most part he did his job without issue.
Each floor was split in half and completely separate; one side for wolves, and the other for humans with the same level of intensity.
“Take me to him.” I said with a snarl that made the silver lined bars of the prison rattle. He looked like he saw a ghost. He ran the violent human side, and I could just about guess that this happened while I was whipping the rogue.
“Of course, Alpha.” He said run walking behind me.
One would expect the solitary confines of a wolf run prison would be dank and dirty, however that was never the case here. I may run this place with an iron fist, but that didn’t mean they had to live in filth. There was no official code or standards for the care of the prisoners here, but I maintained a strict order based off human guidelines, which made any here lucky. Some packs still used dungeons like in the olden times as its own means of passive punishment. However here, that wasn’t the case. They were to be fed, exercised, and allowed free time to do a safe hobby like reading.
Before I went to the fifth floor, I would look at the fourth, the violent criminal floor. Their cells were also to remain clean, but when the elevator opened, it seemed like they’d just contained a riot. The door closed and my guard captain cleared his throat as it opened again to solitary.
“We hadn’t had the chance to write out the report yet, but the human in cell 407 made a shiv, and tried to stab one of the guards.” Said Beauford.
“What’s his offence number?” I asked, getting off the elevator and walking down the hall, making my way to the end of it.
“Three.” Said a random guard run walking to escort me to him.
“Make an order for the janitors. I want an official report faxed to me by sundown.” I commanded, seeing him veer off to do what I’d said.
I nearly couldn’t get there fast enough, being led down the hall by a random guard so Beauford could write up what happened in here today and have it in my office. I would want details later, but the smell of wolf’s blood now confirmed that he’d at least made contact with a guard.
I walked to the cell he was held in, which was made of solid concrete walls, and an iron door. “Since this is your third strike, you have used your last chance.” I growled, taking off my pants to get ready to shift.
“So you’re just going to kill me.” He said defensively. He sounded arrogant to me, as if he ruled other humans in the human world.
“You had three chances.” I said ripping my shirt off with a single tug.
“I can’t call my lawyer?” He said in a demanding way.
“No.” I said flatly.
“I demand a trial! I was captured by you monsters! I have a life! A wife, three kids! I just want to go home.” He said bitterly, but this was the law. To release him would mean my pack, the wolves that depend on Me would be in danger of his big mouth.
“This isn’t the human world.” I said shifting to my wolf, and they opened the doors. I made it quick, lunging and ripping out his throat with enough force that I snapped his neck. His head also hit the back of the wall. He made no sound as he died, and I was satisfied with that. He’d put himself in this situation by attacking my guards. I couldn’t control how he got here, but he should have respected our law.
Though… the very guards I defended looked a bit pale.
As bad as it looked, I took his liver for myself, eating it in about three bites but I did manage not to make too much of a mess. It really was my nature; I was a man eater. This was more than just a craving, it was law, written into our very being.
Not all werewolves partook, but once you did, you could never go back.
I shifted and used a wet rag given to me by a guard to clean myself off as best as I could. With my bloodlust sated, I made my way to the entrance of the prison. There were no high walls, only a simple fence. All those who climb it meet me in the forest. And with that, I left the prison, to go see my Luna.
But she was not home, and no one knew where she went.
