Book 2 Chapter 43

Heidi
I giggled, enjoying toast with eggs, sausage, tea and bagels. Alpha Ron had pretty much memorized what all of us liked, making it without asking. It was crazy the memory on him, since he made mine first, then him, John and Luna ate pretty much raw… I was sure that would probably make me sick, even though Sparkle complained she wanted to try.
There was suddenly a lump on my plate… Lady no! “Awe come on lil’ matey. It’s cooked a little, so you should be ok.” He encouraged but I wasn’t so sure.
“John, I don’t know.” I suspiciously forked it, but Alpha Ron took it, eating it before I did.
“Witches shouldn’t eat raw.” He warned, and I took his word for it, because the way he said it wasn’t in a joking manner.
“Sorry dad.” Said John, then he looked like he was thinking hard. I could feel in our bond if he debated on if he meant it, and he ultimately agreed with his wolf that he did.
“Uh I’m done anyway. I’ll meet you upstairs.” I said washing my plate in the sink, then drying it before going upstairs. I wondered why, but at the same time I didn’t. It was probably really bad.
Do not ever eat raw dark witch… you will lose your humanity. He linked a warning. I gulped, and sat in their office waiting for them to come upstairs. It didn’t take long for Luna to try and comfort me.
“Awe little one, he didn’t upset you, did he?” She asked sweetly, hugging me around my neck. He had, but only a little bit. I hated that I was a Dark Witch… but there was really nothing I could do about it. It’s not like I can uncreate my soul, or change patrons to someone more acceptable.
“No Luna, I’m fine.” I half lied, and she let it go.
“Heidi I cannot stop your feelings, forgive me for hurting them if I did, but I will not treat you any different than any other wolf in my charge.” He said sternly, patting me on the head.
“I’m not offended like that Alpha, it’s just that... I Hate that I am a Dark witch… I know it sounds crazy. Any other witch would have done anything to have Him be their creator…. But I don’t want any part of it, or Him. I Hate that I was gonna try something new without thinking or knowing that I could have caused an accident or something. I hate that part of who I am is Evil no matter What I do, or say….” I looked down at the floor, and he sighed. It wasn’t one of agitation, but frustration.
“My mate, I told you the child would take your words the wrong way.” She huffed, and he walked in, sitting at his desk.
“I hate to say it my love, but you need to be tougher on our daughter.” He looked at me with whisky eyes. “I meant nothing by my words other than a small warning child. You are a small pup, and there will be others who will question your authority, or give criticism from a place of spite.” He said firmly, but his words didn’t hurt me. He was right.
“No Luna, he’s right. And I’ve experienced that kind of criticism… all the time, I can’t run from it. My problem is that there will always be someone who hates me for my position, and even more for who I am. Well, what I am.”
“Heidi you’re amazing.” Said my mate, shooing his parents away so he could hug me. He smelled like the forest, and I put my face in his chest as he hugged me loosely from behind while I still sat. He bent down to kiss the back of my ear, giving me so many tingles I didn’t quite know what to do! It was almost like cheating!
“John you’re my mate, of course I’m amazing to you.” I giggled, “Stop! I was trying to be serious, it’s not fair!” I complained, but he didn’t let me go. He didn’t want me down, and it worked.
“Good, now that you feel a little better, I’m going back out to train. I love you. Train hard.” He spun my chair around and kissed me on the lips. I put my arms around his neck before he pulled away, and Alpha Ron rummaged in his desk. He got out a glass jar filled with dried ground purple flowers, counting out 50, and another jar that had black flowers… and only pulled out one.
“I know he finished a few days ago… but now his body should be ready for this…I really hope I don’t accidently kill him.” He mumbled leaving out.
“What was that? I asked, but Luna looked very upset.
“A rare form of wolf’s bane... one usually used by assassins. Death’s breath. If he survives, he will even be slightly resistant to pure silver. At least his father, Wisp and Phillip are.” She said quietly. “…. But none of them ever gave their pups a whole Death’s breath….” She whined sitting in her chair.
“I believe in him. He’s not like the other wolves….” I told her as confidently as I could, patting her back.
“I know he is, but I’m a mother. It’s my job to worry. Come, let us judge the pack’s disputes. There are five hours’ worth today.” She said sitting straight, putting on her Luna face. I did with her.
-----John-----
“Why does this smell like this is going to kill me?” I asked, looking at my Alligator-aid suspiciously. I could tell it was ever so lightly purplish when they tainted it, so much so that I don’t think a human could tell… but this was blatant. He changed the formula again.
“Death’s breath, Lia’s anger, Angel’s vengeance… all these are within your drink today… all at lethal doses. Today you very well may die, and it will be my fault. Death’s breath is by far the strongest strain one can find, and I think you’re ready… I have never revealed this secret to Any save my closest council mates. Drink.” He handed it to me, making a crescent moon on his chest.
I did as well. “My Goddess, Mother of Wolves, please guide me.” I whispered, taking as many gulps as I could before I immediately spasmed to the ground. I kept blinking but it seemed every time I did, the world around me changed… I was in and out of consciousness.
I opened my eyes as my wolf… though everything was weird. I was in the desert… it was so hot. I howled into the nothingness, and no one responded but the shifting wind and sand. I walked hot and thirsty, seeing someone in the distance. It was a massive wolf, fighting an even larger one. The brown one had to be my father, and the Big one was the King. He was training him…
I blinked and then there was a flash of a burning city of screaming, terrified humans in the sands. The king was his wolf, snarling, covered in blood. He had on the gauntlets… he was fighting someone with horns on the dunes, but he toyed with him…. he ripped the King’s guts out, and threw him to the ground so hard he sank into it before breaking his bones one by one…. then the man waved his hand, as if to motion the town they fought in. Everything, the entire town, was disintegrated. An entire city gone with the wave of a hand… holy shit. The vision became distorted, and I rubbed my eyes.
Why was I seeing this?
I opened them, realizing that I was in a hospital bed surrounded by Warriors, but they did nothing other than have me laid there. My head spun, I felt weak. I threw up blood and my wolf tried to force me to shift, but I stopped him. It wouldn’t help if they needed to treat me that I was a massive snarling wolf.
“You were out six days.” Said Garnet, holding Ann tightly. His eyes were purple, meaning he was his wolf. I was glad he was here, it meant Heidi was protected, But when I looked for my mate, she wasn’t there.
“Where’s Heidi?” I asked incredibly weakly, but he looked out the window.
“She also drank, but was only sick a day and a half. She went to get herself tea with your father. He is very worried.” He said, letting Ann go so she could hug me. I hugged her back. She was a ball of energy.
“I missed you! And then I came back and you both were in the hospital and asleep and I was so worried. You felt so weak through my bond. Then some really huge guy came and gave you a blood transfusion and you shifted, but you’re ok now, right?” She yipped with silver eyes.
It amazed me as much as she reminded me of a pup. I laughed weakly, seeing how jealous Garnet was that she was all over me. I was so sore I thought she was going to kill me…. I held in my gripes so I could keep her happy. She didn’t need to know she was killing me.
I patted her head. “I see Shine gives you all the energy in the world…. How was Alpha Kaiden?” I asked to change the subject. I could only assume that it was the Wolf King who came and saved my life, But I was cut off by her explosion of energy. She finally let her wolf out, and Lady knows I really… really wished she hadn’t.
“Grandpa was so scary and serious, but Uncle Connor taught us how to play Destiny 3 on his computer. We were supposed to be working, but he taught me that work is boring!” She smiled wide… Lady damnit…
