Book 2: Chapter 110

John
I knew where the Old One was… though when I got there, Warriors seemed surprised and horrified that I wanted the door to the jail’s basement unlocked. If I accidently brought the end of the world, I’d do that for my mate.
Banished or not, I could still scent the Horned One off her. It never dissipated… so I know she’d be alright. She was still a member of the coven, they still held connections with their god. If I died, I would be alright… I don’t know where I’d go, but I know I’d have to deal with the Pale Lady in all her benevolence…
I held no fear, even though my wolf was quiet.
The separation from the fresh air above… and the heavy, almost visible air below could be seen when I opened the Thick door. … There was a barrier here… in truth, I could bet money that this magic was the Real thing the Key unlocked… so it was a good thing I didn’t have it.
Down here radiated the kind of power you vomited from scenting…and it was so dark that I could not really see. I could feel the age in the stone… this was the original dungeon. The spiraled stairs were not even, so I had to be careful. There also wasn’t a banister or anything. If I fell, I’d tumble all the way down however deep this place was… There were torches on the wall, but none were lit.
That made sense. No one was authorized to come down here… and my adopted sister got executed for just Having the key, though… here I could tell that if she’d have used it, the murderous intent was thick enough to feel. It told me that he would destroy the pack if given the chance… the air here was heavy, like it held a weight on my shoulders, confirming my suspicion….
“There’s a lighter on that chair.” Said the voice of the Beast Prince…
“Thank you.” I said to be polite. I don’t know if he saw me bow, but I did so to be respectful.
And I was glad I did. When I lit the torch, he was sitting in the chair that had the lighter.
I don’t think I’d ever wanted to shift so bad in my life. It was because of my damn wolf. He looked… thin to smell so strong. He was an elf, I could tell that much… as there was not a mar on his skin except for a slash across his face… it looked like claw marks. His yellow eyes looked at me with an intensity that told me he’d slit my throat if I turned around.
We had a bit of a staring match, as he looked like he wanted to see what I would do. “That you didn’t run slightly impresses me.” He said lighting a cigar. How did he get that? He motioned for the bag, and I handed it to him. He pulled out each book carefully, and sat them on the floor.
There was also a handwritten note that he read in the sconce light. He put that back in the bag, and tossed it to me.
“What brings you here?” He asked. “What could little John, the Last child of Ronitus want, hmm? What is So precious that he didn’t drag you by your tendons to keep you from me?”
He picked up the math book, and began to thumb through the textbook after opening it with a claw.
“I want to learn flesh magic.” I said not wasting his time.
He laughed. He laughed so long that it made me uncomfortable.
“No.”
“Is there anything I could bargain that would change your mind?” I asked.
I blinked and I was outside the jail.
I was confused, but I marched back in there.
“Alpha… I don’t know what happened but-” I cut off the guard.
“I am Fine. I know you put everyone else on lockdown. Just keep it that way for a little longer.” I said going back down the stairs.
No one followed me on seeing that there was a single light glowing at the bottom of stone spiraled stairs. I didn’t blame them. We may be wolves, but even we have our limits.
“That you came back is even more interesting…” he said casually. “Also tell your father I’m done with the first three. He’s better off sending me more Peopling Magazine. What’s Cruise Tom doing these days?”
“I don’t keep up with that much, but last I checked he made a movie last year. Highest Gun.”
“Oh?”
“…. What do you know of the internet?” I asked.
He yawned. “Atlantis had intergalactic cable. I was the one who invented it.”
“…I can’t do That… but would you be willing to… to Trade?” I asked, getting my phone out my pocket. “I will leave it on, pay the bill…. In return you have access to social media and my Arrowzon Primary.”
“You realize with that trinket I could simultaneously make you likely the most wanted being on the planet and start World War 3? Mortals really are boring….” He sighed.
“Would you at least consider it?” I asked. “Plus I thought you swore to wait for his majesty.” I threw that in there like father asked. He nodded.
“Aye, But what’s in it for ME?” He asked. “What could a wolf Possibly want with flesh magic.”
“… I want to make a demon for my mate.” I admitted.
I blinked and I was in a chair, in a kitchen that didn’t look Too far off from a 90’s sitcom apartment, complete with another door to a ‘backyard’. The other door in his living room was the way out, though it looked pretty locked.
It was bright here, smelling floral, and there were refreshments, along with modern conveniences... well… if it were 2005 at the absolute most. There was an old analog TV, a VCR, DVD player, and a couch…. Though I knew this was the dimensional magic prison that housed him.
“You can’t leave until I know the details. Talk. Now.” He demanded.
“My mate is half Dark Witch.”
“Half? The Master only makes purebloods.” He said with folded arms.
“The High Crone of Emerald Coven found a way to switch patrons. She went from the Earth Goddess Lia to the Horned One…. Heidi is the result of that experimentation.” I said feeling bad for putting it that way, but I was trying to keep details condensed. He didn’t seem like he had the patience to hear long stories.
“I do. Stop holding out.” He said with narrowed eyes. “For the coven leader to be pure, I assume that someone was fucking wolves?” He said sipping tea. He summoned it with magic. “Oh, have some. I grew the mint myself.” He offered, though he implied it wasn’t up for debate.
“How do you have the light to grow mint?” I asked.
“How do You have the time to stop talking?” He countered. His claws extended.
“… Well…. Then I guess I could back up. The Coven leader’s daughter was mates with the wolf. Heidi was born half because her mother mated with her husband, not another witch… and for it, Heidi was abused by that coven until she was adopted by the current Crown Prince.”
“…. Current Crown Prince?” He asked interlacing his fingers. “My my… how did I let That little detail slip away. How long has Kaizo been dead? For your blank face I assume that’s the first time you’ve heard one of his names.” He interrogated. “He and his father tag teamed me with that prick Ron until I agreed to This.” He grumbled.
“…. He’s been dead almost 300 years, if not a little longer.”
“I bet his name’s Kaiden. So stupid.” He grumbled. I didn’t know if he referenced the name being stupid… or the former crown prince being stupid… “The Name. It means Son of the Flaming Bite in Original wolf, the spoken language after your people started popping up in flesh, not the growls. It’s the non-growl version of the language the original wolves spoke.” He sighed. “Great I have to teach you That too. Keep going. I have no regrets.” He said sipping tea.
“… Alpha Kaiden adopted her…. And I found out I was her mate. I was hidden there.”
“Oddly enough I know that.” He chuckled.
“I bet you don’t know that I had to kill Herrakken. I bet you Also don’t know that Purple Diamond Coven took her in. She was even given the demon Rahrraam…” his eyes lit up.
“I know that name. He’s Zeh’Kahrraam’s youngest… don’t tell me they broke their bond?!” He said as If This was the Most Interesting Gossip he’d ever heard.
“…She has been banished from having another.” I said taking a sip of the tea. It was good. I could smell no magic or malice…
“Why would I poison your tea? That sounds like Poor writing in a cliché book.” He said glaring out the window.
“But you see why I want your help now?” I asked.
“Yes I do. Pass me your device. I’ll help you.” He motioned for it.
“…. Please promise you won’t use it for porn.” I said seeing him hesitate.
“Why…. Why would that be the First Thing you think of?” He asked defensively.
“I don’t know!” I admitted flailing my arms in the air.
“I told you that with it I could destroy the world and you’re first response is, ‘oh don’t ruin my search history’….” He said smugly, imitating my voice perfectly. “Let me crank it to some vulgar mortals.”
“I don’t Know! You’re the only one down here!” I screamed ashamed that I’d said it. He turned red.
“Just because I don’t Have internet doesn’t mean I don’t know what’s On it! Just Shake my Damn Hand! I won’t do that or destroy the damn planet. That’s the master’s job.”
“I’ll be back tomorrow… just… I’ll see you later. Sorry!” I said flustered.
“Get Out.” He yelled, and when I blinked, I was in the middle of the road, and I almost got hit by oncoming traffic!
