Book 2: Chapter 63

Heidi
The rabbit screamed, while John grunted but I could see his wounds close. Xavier showed no mercy, holding it by the scruff against the table, though I wanted to stop.
“Lady above….” Mumbled Xavier.
“Keep it still.” I said quietly. My hesitation would make it suffer more, so instead, I doubled down.
“Heidi….” Whispered John in amazement…. And honestly, I was too. The poor thing began to bleed, injured and shaking. I didn’t know if I could stop its pain, but I could put it to sleep. It closed its eyes, and I felt a surge of energy that made the table shake.
With words not my own I could feel my hands tremble. “Blood for Blood. Bone for Bone. Earth be damned, you heal by his Horn.” The poor bunny received my mate’s wounds… but John looked fine. I could now heal deep wounds that would need surgical procedure… however it would cost something else its vitality. I assume if it was bad enough… its life.
It laid there on its side in pain and asleep, but alive, while my mate was winded. I felt bad for it, but my magic was now blood for blood… bone for bone. My larger spells now had a price, and I wasn’t sure if I was ready for that kind of obligation…
“Should we kill it?” Asked John, attempting to touch it, but he retracted his hand like he got zapped. My rat jumped out my pocket, taking the rabbit off the table before anyone could touch it again.
“Yes. As her familiar I am to absorb this energy.” Said Rahrraam. He’d become a man again, grabbing the rabbit, but I stopped him from just eating it.
“I don’t want it to suffer any more than it already is.” I commanded gently, and he nodded, snapping its neck. I forced myself to watch blank faced while John rubbed my back. I didn’t want him to though. I had created this, and now it was my responsibility to see the aftermath too. Also, I had a demon as a familiar. There was only so much weakness I could show before he’d turn on me. As a Luna, that sentiment was the same… I had committed to this fate; I have no choice but to get stronger.
“Thank you Heidi…” Said John, rubbing my back in little circles. I sat with a still face, watching my familiar eat it fur and all. I must not show weakness…. Yet I cared for a creature I used for experimentation.
“I couldn’t let you stay like that….” I felt evil.
“I heard that. You did what you believed was needed, and it worked. The little guy didn’t die in vain.” He pressed me to his chest. I could feel his heartbeat strong and steady… and I felt the tingles of his touch.
“I know. I would feel this way regardless… and it’s a good thing. If I did stuff like that without hesitation or remorse my power would be a problem. This is flesh magic. Forbidden… rare… I wouldn’t be surprised if Rahrraam needed to eat it to hide the energy used to put it in that state.” I mumbled.
“You’re correct.” He said licking his fingers.
I blinked, and it seemed I was in some kind of palace, sitting in a red chair. Servants wore crimson, while the walls, interior, and floors were a black, red and gold theme. It smelled of matches and I knew exactly where I was, and most likely what happened… I was probably passed out, and this must have been the realm of the Horned One…
Lady freaking dang it.
He chuckled, sitting adjacent from me in a throne-like chair of gold and deep red. He drank from a goblet made of a skull… though the rest of his cutlery and food that sat on a platter next to him was gold.
“My daughter, I will not hold much of your time.” He smiled. He spoke without a whisper, and I wondered why… it had to be this place.
“Right again, also it’s much easier to have you come to me than the other way around. My child of flesh, who sits in my chair, know that your power comes from me. You even sent me a nice meal… though next time tell that idiot Not to eat the fur With the meat.” He grumbled the last part.
“Of course master.” I said showing my neck, but I felt a gentle pat on my head. He kneeled to my eye level, as if he were speaking to a small child. I kind of was compared to an old god.
“Though you are not my flesh, you are my child, as are the others I create. I make my souls one at a time, giving you all abilities to suit your personalities… Lia, Arviel… even my wife, who all have many more souls do not. They don’t invest in their children as I do… and know if you ever need me, I am there for you, my small, cracked vessel.” He said quietly.
“But why do you call me your vessel?” I asked, and he smiled.
“Through you I pour my power onto this world and the next.” He stood at his full height, though I felt no fear…. Here it felt like when I did the candle ritual with Rahrraam….
“Then I will use this power for good if you allow it.” I said looking down. He chuckled.
“It is why I give you so much.”
With a wave of his hand, I was in my chair in the kitchen…. It also seemed no one noticed I was gone….
“Heidi, I mean Luna, you’re probably the most human person I know, and I was human.” Said Ann with a smile.
“I can second that, minus the human part.” Chuckled Xavier.
“Alpha Ron linked me; he wants us to make sure Aikesh and Wisp’s shadows are gone with them.” Said Garnet.
“Alpha we should take our leave.” Said Xavier with a slight bow.
As they left, they looked to be linking someone, while Ann went home. It seemed lately that she did that, but I wasn’t worried about it. She smelled like a teenage wolf, or at the very least a young adult, so I could only guess that even though her wolf saw us as parents, she probably needed space.
“I need to plan my departure.” Said John getting up suddenly, but I grabbed his hand.
“No…. not yet.” I said looking down, but he pursed his lips.
“Heidi I know you worry, but what I do, I do for the pack. For you…. for my mother, and everyone who has been threatened are under my protection. I’m an Alpha… and that responsibility demands that I fulfill my duties.” He smiled softly.
“And as your Luna, it’s my job to support you John… I don’t even know if they’re telling us everything…” I kissed him on the cheek, and he returned it by kissing me on the lips. He growled softly, running his hand through my hair.
“I know they’re not. They want me to clean up their mess, and retrieve that artifact before the other houses try. No one has yet out of fear…but if I can help it we’re leaving tomorrow.” He mumbled. I found myself in his lap, feeling tingles trail down my arms and legs where we touched… it was electric.
“I feel like you’re running into a trap…” I said unable to really focus on the conversation anymore. He began to rub my thighs with one hand, while the other supported me.
“I wish I could just have you with me, in this house forever. And I was thinking. It probably is.” He mumbled, holding me a little harder. I could feel confliction through our bond, but what he was debating on, I wouldn’t know. It was rare I heard his thoughts, seeing as how he was the stronger mate…
“I debate on should I take you at all…. Pure witches seem to hate you so much, and I wouldn’t be able to stop them…. and before you say anything I will because it wouldn’t be right to go back on my word.” He said holding me closer.
“Good, because I’m going…. I get a chance to meet other witches like me. I’m nervous…. curious, but ready.” I said confidently as I could.
I rested my head on his chest, smelling his scent. It was warm, and filled with desire… though that didn’t bother me. I loved my mate, bond or not. I turned looking at him in the eyes, they were a flaming intense whiskey. They flashed green, but stayed brown.
He kissed me gently, holding my waist. It gave me goosebumps. “I know this is off topic, but I wish we could stay here in this house instead of literally anything else… My wolf got a little carried away.” he chuckled.
“I saw.” And felt, but I didn’t say that. He was embarrassed already as it was. I knew too that we would have to make our way to the packhouse in a few minutes, and that wasn’t enough time to get the smell of arousal off me…
-----John-----
John what the fuck are you doing? Growled my wolf. He had had it with me, and I him for the moment.
I internally sighed. I didn’t know if she knew it or not, but All I wanted to do right now was take her. This wasn’t the right time, though she literally drove my wolf nuts with her scent. She smelled aroused, which was enough for him to want to continue, however I was the idiot who cock blocked myself this time, but if he would wait, we could ease the idea on her instead of being too wolfish. He thrashed around as I got her off me, and held her hand. He wanted to mate her right now, and I did too, but I hesitated.
I could smell something was wrong, or rather off… I didn’t know what though. She smelled of darkness so suddenly… and it just went away. She wasn’t tired as she usually got either. I would ask, but I didn’t want to pry too much about it. Heidi was fine, or at least faking it so well I couldn’t tell…
There will never be a good time. The bond is not complete. If we leave like this, I do not know what will happen.
“John are you ok?” She asked. “You haven’t said anything for a little while.”
“Just…. My wolf. He wants me to finish the mating ceremony. I don’t know if you-” she cut me off by gently holding my hands. She looked like she wanted to kiss me this time, so I met her half way. It made my claws come out.
“I love you John…” She said quietly.
“Why do I feel like there’s a ‘but’ to this?” I asked with a small smile, but in reality she’d teased my wolf without her knowing. That and her arousal drove both of us wild.
“There isn’t… I love you, and I trust your judgement. I don’t know what’ll happen if we mate right now though… I have a feeling we shouldn’t.” Her hands glowed a deep red. “I don’t know if I’ll hurt you since my powers are currently in development…”
I didn’t tell her, but her powers really did make me feel sick. My wolf whined, scared of the unnatural feeling, just as he did when we were healed, and also when I got shocked by the rabbit. Something had changed in her. About the best way I could describe it was that the life was being sucked from me through her hands so long as they glowed.
