Chapter 111
Kaiden
If I ever see another ‘prince’ it’ll be too soon.
/Does the mirror count?/ Said Rakaam smugly and I shut him out.
I didn’t have time for him being a smart ass. Nothing they said was even that important, because it was everything I already knew, and even worse, I had to do more paperwork. Now that I was involved in their shit show… and I let my pride get the better of me…. I now have to run the Prince Council.
This was Grandmother’s doing, because grandfather really didn’t care. I didn’t want any responsibility like this, because it was running fine without me. Running a council is the same as running a pack. From time to time I will have to leave once a month for the High Council meetings, and catch a flight on the first Friday of every month. So long as I don’t get swamped with loads of work, I should be fine.
The pups ate fish sticks, while I met the men and mates of those who would do business with me. I was the youngest Prince there, and honestly, I wondered how father dealt with these assholes. So pompous, and royal. It makes me want to vomit. I hate having to do this nonsense, but we are the next in line, so in a way I feel like this is busywork to prepare us. One day, I will be king unless a pup proves more capable. I fucking hope they do. I never wanted to be king anyway.
Caleb’s little body heaved his lunch for the second time since yesterday. His stomach was more sensitive than the other pups, and he probably needed a more raw diet like I do. There were certain foods that didn’t agree with me, because they were too greasy.
“Oh Caleb are you ok?” Said Eclipse, who got to him first. The Princess of the Fairies scoffed, and was showing a rudeness that I couldn’t ignore, but had to for the sake of my son. There was blood in it this time, like it was when I was a child.
“He needs more raw foods.” I said casually, picking up my son to go clean him up.
“Daddy my tummy hurts too.” Said Isabelle, and Connor rushed to get something to catch her puke. I picked her up too… and took them upstairs. I left the prince duties to my brother, while my sister came into the bathroom with me. I held the blood of the king, and it was the strongest of my siblings. Most ancients can’t tolerate greasy human foods, though with their case they may grow out of it, being the great grandchildren of him….
“Damn… just like when you were little.” She hummed, and leaned down to their eye level. “You feel a little better?” She asked sweetly, like she used to do with me. Now that I think about it… even when my folks were alive it was her who cared for me. They nodded.
She kicked me out my own bathroom, and with that I went downstairs to see my little brother with a steeled look on his face, deep into political discussion with the Fairy Princess. He didn’t even notice that I took over my discussion with the others, but they were concerned for my children.
“I understand if we need to leave and continue this last month. Next quarter doesn’t end until June.” Said Lord Saiyoken.
“My sister threatened to turn me into a dreamcatcher if I continued my actions, so I am here.” I chuckled, seeing that babygirl had went up. She was to speak with the women, but her pups came first…. Until she too was kicked out.
“I’m surprised you allow a female to threaten you as such. I would have disciplined her.” Said the Vampire Prince, in an attempt to piss me off. It implies that she is beneath us, that she is our lesser and we should treat her as a servant, rather than an equal. The Rule of vampires is this way, but not with us…. As our familial ties are of blood, not based off who turned whom.
“Actually, she can do what she wants. She is also the one who raised me and my brother…. And if you look to your left, you will notice that your life is very much in danger.” I said with a small smile. Connor had been offended, which was incredibly rare. The only thing that would stop Titus was Rakaam, and I had no intention of moving from my chair. “Pick your next words very carefully. You have insulted our dear adopted mother.” I leaned back in my chair.
“Forgive me for my overstep.” He said calmly, and Connor closed his eyes. He had a very long fight with his wolf, and decided it wasn’t worth it. That took a lot of energy. I’m sure he had a headache after that, but he chose to help me instead of going upstairs to rest. Tomorrow they would be gone, and we could enjoy ourselves a bit. I needed that as bad as he did.
Jerold came like he usually does, and the pups played with Mini, though my pups went to bed after getting sick. No temperature, and no other symptoms other than a hurting tummy. It pained me to know that they didn’t feel good, but they would be fine tomorrow. I would just have to be careful on what we feed them from now on.
He glared at the Vampire Prince intensely, and his eyes glowed red, creating their own light. I wondered what the hell did he do to make him so mad? He looked as if asking would start another fight, so I motioned for Noah to come over to me. He was speaking Elvish with the prince of Elves, and he came to me and sat cheerfully.
[What do you want?] He spoke in perfect wolf. Impressive. I figured Jerold wouldn’t know enough wolf to be mad if I asked.
[How do you know so many languages… and why is Jerold so damn mad?] I asked. All the wolves seemed to also be curious. And Noah’s face became stern.
[I have to deal with every race, so for the past… ten plus five years I have learn’ed many, but I do not know the right word to tell you why I cannot speak them. I know, but I cannot speak some. Lack of able... Like this hurts.] He said, and got up to drink some water.
I think he meant vocal chords? Voice? I think he was saying that he wasn’t able to because he was human….. It would make sense.
He was human; something like draconic or unicorn would not be possible, but he could understand Noah well enough. I could ask in English later, I needed to hear the tea.
[Ah. But what did Suck Breath Do?] I asked, getting a few chuckles from the wolves. I figured he wouldn’t know the word ‘vampire’, but those two sounds were common enough.
[Slow down!] He yelled. [Suck Breath tried to….] Noah looked like he was trying to think of how to word it. [He tried to do some-thing to my mate in his sleep. He took a… sharp thing to cut his body so my mate could sleep always.] Noah said trying to think of the words and how to order them. I was a little confused but then it dawned on me.
[Shit…. he tried to kill your mate in his sleep? Wow.] I growled. I could understand why he was pissed now. Jerold is immortal… there’s no telling how long they were together only to be stabbed in the back both figuratively and literally by the vampire prince.
[Say that word again.] He asked impolitely. He can’t tell the difference, but the cringe and fear that went through the pack showed him he said it wrong. [Sorry, I am using words I learned a week ago. I am also Rusty. Mini only speaks when she is scared. She isn’t like the pups I had years ago.] He said.
[The word was ‘kill’ and what is she afraid of?] I asked, looking at her play with my nephew and niece. They were watching Channel 10 together, and it looked like their homework for the weekend was already done.
[Wolves.] He said looking at her with sad eyes. Her family was all killed by a Rogue… it would only make sense…
“Thank you Noah, I won’t ask you any more stuff.” I said with a small frown.
“No problem. That was a work out. I think I deserve a bagel.” He walked to the kitchen and stole my last raisin bagel, and slathered it in cream cheese and honey. I sighed, I wouldn’t start an argument over food. He also didn’t know it was mine.
Without warning Noah was grabbed by one of Prince Lucian’s servants by the neck and there was a loud crunch before he began to drink from my human friend.
This was unforgivable. Me legs moved on their own to Noah.
