Chapter 105
Eclipse
After I got out the shower, and everyone was dressed from being outside… and playing with rats… I turned on the stove, and got a video call request from the King himself.
I turned on the call, and used an empty pot to prop up the phone to talk to him. I bowed and he nodded before he spoke. “Little one,” He began, “Brutus shares with me concerns that my blood does little for the council.” He said flatly.
His flaming eyes danced while he sat in his seat. I could tell that court was in session, and I remembered that was one of the wolves that wanted me away from Kaden. I held in a growl made by Shimmer.
“My King, do you wish us in your presence?” I asked politely. In-laws or not, it was not my place to question the decision of the King.
“My mate would very much like it. I as well… this place without pups is… rather boring.” Then it struck me… he missed us. I let a smile creep across my lips. I got disapproving looks from some of the members of the court, but I ignored them.
“Granpa’s on the phone.” I said without even having to raise my voice. From the shadows emerged countless pairs of little eyes and hands, all wanting to talk to ‘grampy.’ They didn’t know that he was strong enough to level the house, all they knew was that he came with ‘gramma’, and they would spoil them to death.
The king looked surprised, and he let a genuine smile crease his lips. He looked like he wanted to thank me, but I would settle for the happiness I gave an ancient. “Those two are my blood.” He pointed at my pups. “You all know my oldest pup. Hello Heidi. Keep your head high. Who is that one?” He pointed in John’s direction. Crap.
“That’s John Robins, Gamma Xavier’s son.” I lied. If Alpha Ron hid him all the way in Jentuky, there was a reason. Ron looked like he was sad on seeing his son, knowing that he had to play along. He soon steeled himself, as he was essentially the King’s Beta.
The King looked as if he saw through my lie, and his flaming eyes became red. “I do not like that he is near my most fragile pup. Leave me.” He said.
They left in a hurry, and the moment the door closed, he growled. “I do not like that you lie little one. It is not like you.” He snarled, which got Kaiden’s attention. The three siblings rushed to my side and all tried explaining at once why I lied, and John was told to go outside ‘for his safety.’ He wasn’t old enough, or ready enough to go to Grandia to see the council! He would just be assassinated.
“Enough.” He boomed. “Little one, tell me why you lie. It is unbefitting.” He sneered. He was genuinely angry that I tried to lie to him…
“Your majesty, I didn’t want to lie to you, but John’s life is in danger. He is Alpha Ron’s son, but he was almost killed as a baby, so he hid him here in secret. Forgive me for lying… I didn’t want to really.” I said holding my head in submission. He hummed and I looked up. His eyes were still red, but he was the wolf, so there was no telling what his decision would be.
“Herrakken was disobedient, and knew not his place.” He paused. “I will allow this to continue for the sake of Ronitus, but I do not like this… it is too… trickster plot. I will tell Gwyneth. “He said finally.
“Grampy don’t be mad at mommy!” Yelled Isabelle, who I thought was shooed away with the other pups.
“I am not angry my smallest pup, I am fine.” He said softly. “I am upset.” He said truthfully.
If he were angry, he would already be on a plane, I thought. “Momma needs to sit in time out.” She beamed.
…. The audacity. I thought.
He chuckled. “Yes, Kaiden see to her time out for five minutes.” He commanded with a smile. I wanted to growl, I really did, but for the sake of peace, I would sit on the little stool in the living room.
“I’ll put her in our room.” Said Kaiden with a wink. I facepalmed and tried to hide my blush.
“I wish for her to think about her actions, not become with pup.” He retorted flatly. Conner burst into tears, and I knew my face was redder now. Lady damnit.
I sat on the little stool, while Nancy finished up dinner for me. John was with the small pups and Heidi, so now we could talk.
“You think Brutus knows that John is Ron’s son?” Said Connor.
“Probably, he looks exactly like the man except the lighter skin tone. He even has his wolf’s eyes.” Said Shelly.
“But that should be easy to see through. I mean, You look a lot like the queen, but if I didn’t know either of you, I would know you two were related.” I said, but being shushed by Kaiden. He was messing with me.
“No talking in time out.” He said with a chuckle. I glared at him.
There was even a little timer thumb-tacked to the wall, and if I touched it, I would get five more minutes. /This is bullshit/. I thought to myself, and my wolf agreed.
“I won’t add more for thoughts, but I Will warn you.” He grinned.
I said nothing, knowing it’s a trap.
“Our Luna is smarter than that.” Said Shelly with a grin. “Isn’t that right Luna?”
I opened my mouth, but Shimmer closed it.
“Y’all are dicks.” Said Connor.
The timer dinged, and Kaiden grunted. “You’re free.” He chuckled.
“…I’m going to go for a run, and You’re not invited.” I huffed.
There were giggles.
“Can *I* Come?” Asked Connor.
“Ooo, yeah and Nancy.” I said with a smile.
My mate looked a little deflated to say the least, but Shelly’s plan ruined my revenge.
/Heidi can you be a dear and put the pups to bed for us?/ She common linked.
“Okay auntie.” She yelled.
“May I have this run Gamma Branson?” Asked Kaiden like a gentleman.
“Of course.” She grinned. “Let us follow her for her safety of course.” She said like a Victorian royal lady….
We went outside and shifted… and I was still so small, I’m sure many would think I was a freshly shifted pup. I was only half the size of Beta, if that. If I craned my neck up I reached his shoulder, but I strode around like that anyway, holding my head high as Luna.
Shifting now was instant, but I hesitated on picking a direction.
[Lead the way.] Said Connor in wolfspeach.
I bolted, while they trotted behind me… not really having an idea of Where to go. I did give Zeke a ‘hi’ while we ran past him… and I kind of just did this to stretch my legs. I let Shimmer call the shots, so she could settle in for bed later. I didn’t follow any particular trail… but I Did find a large clearing.
It was circular in shape, though they seemed to know what I’d found…. Before I hadn’t shifted, and even after I got my form, I didn’t venture This far out.
[What is this place?] I asked, suddenly feeling hot breath down my back.
[Where we hold fights.] Said Kaiden behind me. I jumped. I could see his cheeky wolf’s grin…
[Sorry] He said with no remorse.
[I must defend the Honor of my Luna.] Said Connor, his tail was stiff in an anime pose.
[Oh for fuck’s sake…. Come at me, Small Wolf!] Yelled Kaiden.
They wound up chasing each other around the large clearing, while me and Shelly laid in the middle.
Shelly shifted. “This place oddly enough is my favorite part of the pack.” she smiled.
“Really, Why?” I asked shifting with her…
The grass here was softer than the other places… but I could also see bits of dried bones here an there too….
“This was where father trained the Warriors, and me. He was, if I remember right, Taller than Alpha by a full head and shoulders But that wouldn’t matter Now.” She grumbled.
“Why’s that? I thought we had peace more or less.” I said a little confused.
“We do… but back then… we didn’t get many challengers. However, wolves Today fight dirty. They come to kill and steal, and pillage any who come out this far, even though we’re well within pack boundaries.” She looked at Connor and Kaiden.
This was a Rare moment they let loose and played around. They kept saying anime styled phrases, and eventually shifted to swordfight with sticks….
“Have at Thee!” Yelled Kaiden.
“This isn’t the Revolutionary War!” Complained Connor. “Why do you always hit so damn hard?!”
“Because you’re a pussy!” Alpha pointed at him with his ‘sword’ stick. “Defend the honor of Lady Clippy!”
Now they both laughed while I held a small growl.
