Chapter 120

Heidi
My little demon sat on his brother’s lap in my bedroom. John handled pack business a few rooms over, while me and Hellinia pretty much played with Zahrraam. I could tell nothing stuck with my rat with him so young, however he at least tried paying attention. His brother had him on his knee supporting him with his enormous clawed hand, while Hellinia demonstrated the fireball.
“See little one?” She beamed, doing the incantation without words. “We are creatures of power and might. Even if you can’t remember the verses, your will can manifest results.”
“We are the sons of the First brother. Be Proud of your blood.” Said Xeh’zehrraam-Bash’eer, or I guess I could say Bash’er… that was his name, the other half for him was his title. It was reserved for the sons of Zeh’Kahrraam.
He could only squeak, but he burped a small spark, followed by a small puff of ash. “Oh my Night!” Clapped Hellinia. She was the only one who came today.
“I know! Well done!” I praised him, patting his head. Bash’eer looked a little cross. He could level the pack with his power, yet his brother was praised for a lighter spark.
He yawned. That was all the energy he had being only 16 days old, and he fell asleep on his brother.
“…could you send a photo of this to mother?” Asked Bash’eer. “I’m sure she would want to see his progress. That he produces fire, no matter how Small this early will impress her.”
“You want credit.” Smiled Hellinia.
“You know me too well mistress.” He grinned. “I mean I Did supervise.”
“Mmhmm. Only if you clean the basement.” She said taking the picture, but she hadn’t sent it yet.
“Damnit fine.” He complained. “It’s full of Fruit! Why did you offer so much Sweet Sticky Stuff?!”
We both laughed. “Because the Master took everything but the apples You didn’t watch, and they spoiled!”
“I didn’t know he likes fruit.” I mumbled.
“To be fair, as long as it’s from the heart, he doesn’t care. That and it’s Edible! He picked them too early, left them out, and put the squirrel eaten, bug infested apples in a barrel…. He almost killed me.”
“He yelled at you.” He said casually.
“I could have Died.” She said dramatically.
“…. He said ‘ew’ and left.” Bash’eer rolled his eyes.
“You don’t know what it’s like!” She complained, dramatically throwing herself on me.
“…. Mistress our duties for the morning.” He said to remind her and she popped up.
“Damnit I want to keep playing with the baby. Sorry Heidi, I need to refresh the barrier. There’s another Baba out there, nesting in Baba Maggi’s old spot.
“Are you going to kill her?” I asked.
“No. That coven I could crush with my eyes closed. Plus, it’ll be the third time I clean that place out. May as well let the weak ones cover that territory, and occasionally cull their numbers when they grow beyond 4.”
“Keeping their numbers low, and the residents weak means you have a lower threat.” I said as she gave my rat to me. He was tuckered out, since he was so small.
“Exactly. So long as a new Baba doesn’t try to take over, we should be fine. I have mom’s old spells, new ones from Frag’Naw’s original language, and even a new barrier ritual given to me by Uncle Flen from Black Daimond…. He’s so strict, rigid. If you meet him, he may not speak to you unless you greet him properly.” She said getting her portal stone out but she didn’t use it yet. “You bow and say, Yolteir Nez’yolez, Ak’ta- Heidi.”
“I’ll try to remember that…. What dialect is that?” I said being handed a piece of paper with the inscription on it.
“Original Witch…. He speaks it fluently, being only about 17 years younger than grandfather. He might also show up, along with the other Uncles to see you. You’ve earned horns, summoned, and raised a demon, and on top of it, you can summon lightning. To be under 500, you are a prodigy, and will likely become the Night’s Champion one day if the master seeks another.”
She disappeared after that. They all had the same habit as Gultteer; leaving without leaving enough details! It didn’t matter… it felt like she was forewarning me about Today, rather than some arbitrary distant date.
I could only guess if that was the case, I’d need to clean up the crayons I let Zahrraam’Zeh play with…. I let him color. He made a flower. I put it on the mini fridge by the bed… it looked like something a 3-year-old would draw. It wasn’t colored in, and only green was used, but he looked so proud about it.
I put him in my pocket, but I heard John talk to someone in the office.
“Yes, but you understand why I am here?” Said a man with a very thick Eastern European accent.
“My guess is to snoop. Heidi is registered as Gulteer’s granddaughter, but Also she is a full member of your sister coven.” I opened the door as John crossed his arms.
The man looked like a slightly shorter version of Gulteer, except his eyes were less black. Instead, the whites of his eyes were a dark gray, but he still radiated darkness. He was thin as a vampire, with long claws the length of a soda can. He wore the golden peacock on his hooded cloak, though instead of purple… it was black.
“Aye, but I am also here for one more thing. As I sit across from your husband, you too should sit.” He said firmly. “My true name is Alteer Yoltier, the Darkened One, little Theyolina. I believe you know my mortal name, Lord Flinn” He bowed his head ever so lightly, like dad does. “I lead Black Diamond, and I am your uncle.”
I sat next to John, and he cleared his throat. “Go ahead.” I encouraged.
He pulled out a parchment of black paper and red writing… like the scroll that held my punishment. I didn’t understand the words, however I knew it was written in blood…. Blood that smelled like Me.
“I know you don’t remember this, being a fresh born babe. I made this deal that about now, I would have taken you from Emerald Coven, but when I arrived, I discovered their leader is a wolf. I purchased you for my unborn, that either You or your kin marry mine, and End the nonsense I tried hiding from father and the Master… Theofania had a Bad habit of showing Pity to those who did not deserve it.” He grumbled.
“She’s mated and a Luna. You’re too late.” Said John calmly, but I could see his eyes become his wolf’s.
“Aye, but not for your unborn. This contract is Binding. Neither I nor You can undo it. I waited for the date on this contract… but I wonder… why does a soul so young have so many scars… Deep ones…” his eyes narrowed, becoming red as Gulteer’s does. “Who abused you? Give me their Names. If father has not wrung their necks, I Will.”
“They’re dead now.” I said looking down. Unlike Gulteer… he didn’t hold his aura back at all… it felt like I was a child that got in trouble.
He bowed low this time. “Forgive my absence in your life… my dear sister Begged me not to interfere any more than I already had at the time… and I must admit my folly. I can no longer tell mortal time…. I suspect my sister’s soul will be reborn a full witch through you?” He said with a raised brow.
“I believe so.” I mumbled.
“Hold your head up little one. I am not my father. I know little Zahrraam’Zeh is too small to protect you, not that he could from his big sister.” He smiled a little. It was almost as if he were smiling at a small kid who did something funny, but you didn’t want to outright laugh at them. “I come to you as a Yoltier to another Yoltier. I apologize that I did not Take you from that place, but I was assured you’d be with your mother, and learn Lia’s ways before I retrieved you….”
“They killed my mother the day I was born…. My father is Undead somewhere in New Apple, but I did get to speak with him.” I said leaving out the undead rampage of my mother….
He snorted darkness out his nose. It was an annoyed sigh to say the least. “Then their side of the contract is Void, but yours is Not. Do you SWEAR that you will raise your true mother with the dignity and Respect she deserves? She will be born with all her powers and memories… but she will still be mentally a Child. One who will need supportive, happy parents.”
John cut his hand. “I can swear to that. No pup of Mine will be mistreated on my watch.” He snarled.
“But can you back that up?” He asked.
“On my honor as a wolf.” Said John with conviction.
“Then be tested. Don’t cry to me when you Die.” He said, and suddenly John was caught on fire. “She will no longer be my Bodily relative, but she’s still my littlest sister’s soul... Her soul is from my mother. I Will Not Allow Scars on Her.” He growled. His teeth were gray, and his gums were black. “Show me Boy why the Master respects you.”
“Mmm, Smells Like Barbecue and Bitch in Here.” John said standing. He grabbed Alteer’s arm, making him burn with him. “I would Never allow such a thing.” He snarled. “Release me from these flames Bitch.” Said Terracotta.
I’d Never heard him use that term before. To a wolf, that was Much Worse than saying any other swear.
“Be Melted Liar.” He hissed, summoning black flames on my mate, and I tried stopping him, but I wasn’t able to. “I find it hard to believe one This Young can Resist Hell’s Flame! You Lie as Mortals Do Dog! Be TESTED by his power!”
If my mate Was a liar or a sinner, he’d be ashes, but instead the only thing that hurt him was the heat from the fire, not the flame itself. John passed this test, but he needed to Stop. I didn’t want my mate passing out from heat exhaustion.
“I am magic resistant. This feels like a Flea Bite.” Terracotta growled in pain, but he wasn’t getting hurt by the fire. He broke Alteer’s arm with his grip. “Above all, a true mate is Unable to harm their soul bonded. I feel All her pain, mental And physical. Our pups are the flesh and blood of that love. I could Never allow my pups to be treated as my mate was, nor would she let Anyone do such a thing Ever Again…. Now explain to me why I shouldn’t shift and rip your throat out.”
“You Pass boy…. I’ve only seen priests this resistant to Hell’s flame… I understand why it is Your line he picks.” He said removing John’s hand with strength that didn’t match his lanky body. He then interlaced his fingers, though he made no effort to fix his arm. “The Master wishes I Test you. After you broke your word and bond, he is apprehensive about blessing you both with my sister…”
“Why so many tests?” Asked John. “It took all I had not to let my wolf shift and kill you.”
He snorted a laugh. “I’d be back before sunrise.” Alteer said fixing his clothes and arm with magic. “It will take a long time to earn his trust after oath breaking and being forgiven… but most of all, I do Enjoy testing people. Interrogation and investigation are my coven’s specialty. To Swear not to interfere… finding out all this this morning.” He sighed. “Seeing my sister as she was down there…We care for family. Regardless of flesh.”
I wasn’t ready for pups… I Barely know how to be a witch, yet alone a mother to a coven leader…. I didn’t want to be tested. I didn’t want this kind of responsibility, though at the same time… I knew it would happen whether or not I wanted it to… Plus better that she be raised with me than someone who’d teach her evil. There’s no guarantee that she’d have all her memories at first.
“Now you understand…Her husband has already been killed, that when my unborn is birthed, they can be together again…. The master has his plans, I have mine.”
“What do you mean by that?” Demanded John.
“If there’s 7 colors of the rainbow, why are there only 6 Diamonds?” He said vanishing.
“Black isn’t in the rainbow….” Said John. “Black is actually the Lack of light or All the colors together… ”
“But Yellow and Violet are… John they intend on making her a coven matron again, but that’s so much responsibility….” I mumbled.
“If she’s born with all her memories and such, it’ll be a breeze.” He encouraged. “Don’t worry about it until it happens… I’m not worried about Lady Tiffany… I’m worried about Herrakken… He’s in the In-Between with his mate, suffering no Real repercussions for his actions…”
“Maybe he’ll learn.” I mumbled.
“Maybe…. I already had to kill my brother… I don’t want to kill my Son.” He put clawed hands over his face. He still steamed a bit, but he was more stressed than anything. “I Had to put my foot in my mouth…. But it will be different.”
“Yes, it Will be Different.” I reassured him, even though I still had my doubts. “In the meantime… maybe it’s better if we pretend our children will be random…” I hugged him close… being confronted with this stressed us Both out… If Lady Tiffany will be a Full witch, Herrakken will be a Full Wolf again… one who’s the grandson to the Second Seat.
