Chapter 91
Kaiden
I sat on the floor, with the pups while Eclipse was calming down Heidi. She was better at it, and I could have time with the little ones… but I discovered why she had warned me very soon.
They bite.
My goddess above they bite Hard.
I had to pay attention where my fingers were, because I swear to the Lady that I would not have them if not for the fact I was Alpha.
They were playing pirates, and I was the monster guarding the treasure, a stuffed bear. I crawled on the floor on my hands and knees while they jumped on me and bit the shit out my back. I growled at them to knock it off, and the little cheeky toddlers growled back.
“I will keep the treasure all to myself!” I snarled.
They squealed and giggled.
I decided to bite Michelle’s bear and played tug of war with all 4 of them, and let them win. I let them ‘knock me over’ and ‘defeat’ me, though with their confidence as a unit maybe I shouldn’t have? They bounced up and down on me, and I rolled over to show my belly.
“I submit!” I yelled, and pretended to die. “Bleh.”
They ran around the living room excited that they won. I felt that my wolf was happy for the first time in a while. Honestly, I was too. I got to be with my littlest ones, not swamped with work, or too busy defending the territory. They didn’t mind as far as I could tell. I saw them every day, and they would play in my office all the time. Except now, they got to actually play With me, not Around me.
……The warriors that clocked in watched the spectacle, amazed that I would allow pups to make me stoop so low. I didn’t care, and they understood. I hoped anyway.
There was a flash.
Shelly came down the stairs and full on laughed at me, “Well I guess Beta owes me a half a month’s salary….” She said, raising her phone and taking another picture before trying to get past me.
“Delete that Gamma!” I growl, which only made her laugh harder. I managed to get her phone, but it was locked! “Shelly!” I scream at her, and she ignored my protests, and pat me on the head. I growled a little louder. She threw her hands up.
“I’m taking all the little ones to see gram-gram. I’ll be back Tuesday morning, consider this payment.” She grabbed her phone back, leaving me in shock. I shook it off, accepting my embarrassing fate, knowing her she saved it to the cloud anyway. I helped Eric with the last of the bags, and they left in one of the packs minivans. I would have the rest of the week with just me, babygirl and Heidi. I wondered what I could do for them to make it fun?
I went upstairs to see my Luna holding Heidi like a small child, but she was fine. They both looked at me and giggled, and my eyes went wide. “Oh no! It’s the ‘monster’!” Giggled babygirl, and I pursed my lips.
“At least they didn’t treat you any different.” Said Heidi, who at some point must have experienced the wrath of 4 biting, teething pups.
I had no words, but I did come over to the bed to see what else they were up to.
Apparently, there was a sale on Arrowzon, and they were looking at things to order. I left them to their mother and daughter time, and went to my office, I still needed to talk to someone. I did a little spin in my chair before calling Alpha Ron’s pack. His Beta told me that he was at the council, and gave me his personal cell number. I sighed… there were too many prying ears to talk with him on something like this around other ancients.
I looked at the clock, they were an hour ahead, meaning that it was already 8. I should probably talk to him before Shelly, and text her not to bring it up just in case. If he put one of his bloodline all the way in my pack, it had to be a reason. The court is always in session, and plots were always afoot.
The phone rang 3 times and went to voice mail, but I got a text that said. ‘Give me 10 minutes. Too many ears.’ I figured as much.
I let out a long agitated sigh when the phone rang. “I see someone is in a mood.” Said Ronitus amused. I was, and I wasn’t going to play with him.
“Tell me why you hid the pup on my territory?” I growl. He chuckled softly. I heard his engine rev. He must have been driving.
“You answered your own question.” He said casually.
I growled again. He sighed.
“No council member, or heir of the seat would dare come near the Prince, who is known for his temper that rivals the King himself.” He said seriously. “About 80 years ago my first born, heir to my seat, made an illegal alliance with Brutus, and he lost his rights to my chair.” He paused.
“How is this my problem?” I ask, slightly irritated.
“Well…. You were the best option. You’re not close to any particular council seat…. Plus I put him a pack over, so as not to interfere with you in any way… until you took CrimsonMoon over.”
“Explain.” I said a little bit calmer.
“…Almost 17 years ago now, my mate became pregnant. After we found a copperhead in our bedroom the day he was born, we decided it best that we fake his death. I put a little of his blood on some baby sheets and we buried about 9 pounds of beef, while a servant we already sent to spy on you pretended she had a pup on vacation.” He said a little sorrowful.
“That explains why Crimson’s Gamma is always so stand offish…. I always thought it was because Xavier was afraid of me or something.” I mentally slap myself at my own arrogance. Those spies could have just as easily came into my bedroom, or our pups’…
“I know what you’re thinking. I sent them to protect you and yours after your father died. They kept the prying eyes of the other Council members away from you. Surely you thought foolishly if you thought the greedy bastards would let a 100 year old, 15 year old and a newborn live? Your sister didn’t even have her powers yet.” He scoffed. “Especially when you defeated your sister, when she did develop them.” I swear he sounded like he was scolding me like Eric used to…
I sighed. “Then I assume you wanted to keep it hush-hush so the Council Members who plotted the assassination were ignorant.” I mumbled.
“To be fair, it’s obvious who it was, but I had no proof.” He grumbled, likely referring to Brutus. Ron’s death with no heirs would make him Second Seat.
“Well, at any rate, the boy is my daughter’s mate, but they’re so young I don’t want to say too much, it could break the bond before it’s fully formed on Heidi’s end.” I say, looking at the clock.
“When they come of age, send them to me, he will be the next Second Seat if I pass, so he will need to know more about the Court.” He said, and he hung up before I could say anything else.
Interesting, so the boy is an heir. I thought. Unlike other councils that slide over, our councils are ruled by bloodline. Seats are inherited like royal thrones, as each High council member sits upon one. The royal houses under my grandfather all maintain ordered rank, but lower seats are always trying to move up whenever the chance. If both Ron and his heir died, that would leave the Second Seat open, and likely the Third Seat, Brutus would get it.
I sighed, I needed to clear my head, and I knew one person that could do that. I had to see my Luna. Heidi had went to her room apparently, and babygirl was in the shower. I debated going in, but if I waited, I could tease her.
She had just got out the shower, and I grinned. I looked directly at her, making her blush. She was still the light of my life, and still blushed so easily. I debated on teasing her more. Now was not the time, but when is it ever?
I put on my most serious face. She glared back at me, but I ignored her. She wasn’t the least bit intimidating, if anything she was adorable. I walked slowly, but I couldn’t help but look at her lips. She playfully ran away, and I started chasing her around the room. “Alpha no!” She giggled before I grabbed her around her waist. We both giggled now.
