Book 2 Chapter 86

Heidi
There was a tense heaviness to the aura of them both, but for the sake of peace, I stood between them. I felt as if it was My fault that I led him here, but he would come anyway. He was here for our safety, so I doubted that he would raise his staff against Ron with me in the way.
“Stand down wolf.” He sneered.
“You come onto My lands and make demands. I will Not let you free the Beast Prince….” He snarled, Gulteer laughed.
“Why would I waste my time freeing the most intelligent of the young master’s generals? He’s likely already free, and if not, he can manipulate the mind of even the most logical beings.” He took two confrontational steps forward. “I came here because I felt like it.”
“Do not come closer.” Snarled Ron’s wolf… Even with what happened with Herrakken, I’d never heard his wolf say anything so aggressively…..
“I do as I please. I come because your youngest blood is married to my smallest. I have come to ensure that her power does not alert the Church of your pack’s location. Nanemous come.” He said and the crow landed in front of him, becoming a scantily clad horned woman who bowed to him. Her tail was tipped with a triangular silver blade lashed to it, and the look on her face as she sniffed the air told me she was a very proud demon.
“Master, there is no magical protection on this place.” She said angrily. Her lips were curled as she spoke, glaring at me like I was a kid who’d drawn on the walls.
“That I know. Any spell cast, any incantation practiced, any magical item you imbue is like an alarm she chimes. It rings through the air as a tolled bell. It’s only a matter of time before she attracts attention to herself now that the Master has laid hand upon her. I can smell the Master’s touch on this place.” He said with a frown. “You will either move aside and allow me to protect your people, or I will bind you and do it anyway.” He clenched his fist hard enough that he drew black blood…
“Swear to me that it is your only intention. I Trust Heidi. She’s a good person, but you…. I’ve seen what you do serpent.” Snarled Alpha Ron. His eyes were brown with his wolf, and it seemed he was fighting the urge to fight Gulteer, who smiled.
Gulteer laughed, and it made me feel a little uneasy on who… or rather what I allowed to follow us home. He smacked the head of his staff on the ground, becoming an almost serpentine black dragon, flying high into the air by slithering, then wings erupted from nowhere. He flapped them, soaring off into the darkness, cackling like a madman.
“You have my word little wolf. Make your oaths a little more specific next time!” He roared, disappearing into the darkness as if he’d never come with us at all.
“Damn bastard.” Spat Ron. “I want every household with holy water on their doors and windows.” He commanded, and several Warriors rushed inside the packhouse, getting boxes that were on the floor.”
“Is it that bad?” Asked John, and Ron nodded.
“Actually worse than I expected…. Heidi, I cannot allow you to reenter the pack with something like him around. He is your blood, and he will come for You.”
“That is unacceptable.” Said John. “You Shun us after I left and Hunted down that fucker because I was ASKED to, given responsibilities that I did Not Want.” Rahrraam snarled in agreement. I couldn’t get a word out, because both of them were already brown eyed with their wolves. Rahrraam was as well. They didn’t want to hear anything he had to say.
“You would fight me over this?” Asked Ron’s wolf, and John started taking off his shirt.
“You disrespect my mistress? In front of Me?” He stood, becoming the offended goat man that he was.
“This includes All of you, Garnet included.” He was cut off.
“What the fuck did I do?!” He complained, and Ron pinched the bridge of his nose.
“I would not be a Fool and welcome my son or his pack with open arms, but shun his mate. It’ll just be until sunrise, when his power is reduced. Maybe I should have said That first…” he facepalmed. John was fired up, and ready to fight for my honor, but I didn’t want that.
I could tell Ron was doing this from a place of fear. And if not fear, then concern wracked his mind. There had to be more to this; it was why I wasn’t offended. I literally serve the Darkness. It would only make sense bringing ‘the hand of the master’ here would make ripples.
“John I hate to say it… but he’s kind of right. He’s looking out for his people, and we should look after ours… I should have been more careful with my magic and you should calm down and think about this….I serve the Horned One.” I said and there were a few gasps. “I’d tried to keep it secret, but honestly that was pretty apparent with Gulteer around… Hear Alpha Ron out.”
“Heidi-” I cut John off.
“As a witch who’s patron is who he is… bringing the literal leader of his primary coven here might not have been a good idea without More warning than we gave.” I said looking down, and he hugged me but putting me under his arms, as if he were shielding me.
“You didn’t know. Nobody really taught you anything about that…” All the while you could hear Gulteer’s laughter in the distance, and a very distinct explosion.
“This still doesn't sit right with me.” John growled.
“As I said son, I’ve Seen what he does, and he is worse than any of the Old Ones. At least with them, it is their nature; he just enjoys it.” Ron Grumbled. “I already have a tent set up for you four. It isn’t a good idea that he knows where you sleep… and for the sake of protection the citizens of both packs will receive holy water, that he cannot enter their homes.”
It was then that John calmed down. His catlike eyes glared at Ron before he took my hand. “Show us where it is then. If you don’t trust him This much I want to know why; you won’t even tell us within pack earshot.”
“Come get an ATV with me. It’s best not to be shifted.” He said heading into the garage. He and John would ride together since Rahraam at the moment could only become a man. Beta didn’t come but he readied some food for us and got it loaded up. Rahrraam put on pants, riding with me since he couldn’t drive. It didn’t bother me at all, and hopefully not john, because my familiar to me is a strange combination of a friend… and what it must feel like to have a servant.
“We’re almost there.” Said Ron, pointing at a fire you could see in the distance.
We trailed Ron into the night, and in between both packs was a small campsite of three traditional looking tarp tents and an already roaring fire. There were half logs to sit on, and it was obvious that this was a Warrior waystation of some kind, as everything was cleared, and well warn. It was as if it had been used every day, but I’d never seen it, even when I flew my broom.
“Alpha, are you sure about this?” Asked a Warrior, and he nodded his head.
“I would not leave my son in exile alone, not after it was My Fault that he had to go off on a mission in the first place.” He said as if it were common knowledge. Jugs of water were also handed to Ron, and he poured a gallon over himself before handing one to my mate.
“Why didn’t you say that?” Demanded John. He hissed in pain when he got about a drop on his hand from just the jug being open. “Why does this burn?” He asked.
“You’re contaminated, meaning he’s placed magic on you at some point. That hand sanitizer-like burn is the purging of what’s left.” He said as if it were common sense. “Don’t Do this to your mate or her familiar though. And to be frank, I don’t know. That man set off my instincts, but I stand by my judgment…” He said looking at the fire. He kind of zoned out a moment, before sitting down. He reached into the bag that held food, and he opened a tubber ware bowl filled with what looked like leftover lasagna. He rummaged around for a fork, and commanded the Warrior to sit too.
“I don’t need to hear the report of my oldest; I already know enough… but you know nothing of the man made of Tartaron’s dust. I’m not proud of all the things I’ve done in my life… but he truly is a monster…. An Actual Monster. Not some concept, not figuratively, or metaphorically. He is a Literal Monster and should be sent Back to where he came from for the sins he has committed.”
“He told us some.” Said John, but Rahrraam was silent. He didn’t take his gaze off the fire, and Ron spoke his piece.
