Chapter 20
Kaiden
Fuck, I should have never put her at risk like this. I just wanted her to see something new, I should have explained the risk, I should have made it more clear why not to call me Alpha. Humans don’t call each other their title often, also humans don’t call each other Alpha. I casually get up with Eclipse, her face so unsure after seeing the fear in my eyes. I was afraid for her. I didn’t want her skinned like a damn animal for her pelt. I could take it. I would bear all the brunt of it if it meant my Luna and my pack were safe.
/You did nothing wrong, but we should go./ I mind linked her. There was no use in hiding who we were now, I could tell something was off the moment she called me my title. She apologized again, and I Got up, held her hand and we walked the same pace as anyone else, casually strolling. Humans would not notice a couple leaving, but they would notice someone running to the exit.
I heard 3 of them following us in the parking lot. I heard one talk on a cell phone. I called Beta to let him know what was happening, and that if I did not return, he would be Alpha. I got my precious Luna in the car, and I went to confront the assholes that were ruining my time with my babygirl.
I stood in front of the pack car. Arms crossed, claws out. “Piss off,” I growled. I didn’t care who heard, the parking lot was already empty, seeing as how it closed at 9, and the theater at midnight.
“ALPHA Kaiden was it?” Said an old man, seemingly the leader of the trio. The blonde boy and brown-haired couple that sat too close to us was on either side of him.
“Fuck off.” My eyes flashed red as a warning, making the girl flinch. She reeked of fear, I think she’d just discovered we exist.
“I didn’t know dogs left their territory to see cheap movies with their bitches.” The younger man said smugly. I growled deeply, my wolf was trying to get out, but I knew better. He was up to something.
I heard a car screech, almost hitting me, and 2 more men got out the car, the boyfriend shoved the girl into it, warranting her to scream to stop what they were doing. She was ignored. They attempted to surround me, each having something different in their hands.
They all held the similar appearance of family, each having some shade of blonde hair and either blue or green eyes... ones that were filled with hatred that we existed. One of the men held silver daggers, while one next to him held a shining syringe, another held a silver tipped whip and the last one had a 40 mm pistol…most likely filled with silver bullets.
“If you can’t get him between the eyes don’t ruin the pelt like last time.” Grumbled the oldest man.
“I know what I’m doin’ Grandpa Jimmy.” He grumbled back.
I saw the man with the pistol take off the safety, he was the highest threat, so I rushed him.
“Shit.” He yelled, aiming with shaking hands. He shot me in the left leg twice before I ripped out his throat. He screamed while their leader cursed, but made no attempt to actually help. The only reason that he didn’t was that the gun slid under my car. They would have to go through me to get it.
The man with the whip lashed me on the same lame left leg. They were trying to subdue me, and if I had been a lesser wolf, the pain would have stopped my fighting. It was why I only used mine on the worst offenders, its silver ends inflict wounds that would bleed longer, and I had no choice but to let my wolf take over.
The silver on now bare skin burned, and it would have given them an edge had I not been strong enough to resist, and smart enough to play along long enough for more of them to get into killing range. He’d wrapped it around my neck, and I held onto it as they closed in.
The man with the daggers thought I was subdued, but he was wrong. No one counted on a red eyed wolf, one who had lived only knowing battle for all his young life. When he got close enough, I went for the man with the knife, surprising him, biting him on the throat and whipping around to claw the man with the whip in the belly. He gurgled falling with his comrade, their eyes full of fear, regretting their hubris.
I felt the jab of the needle in my right leg, then I heard him scream. Eclipse had gotten out of the car, and stabbed the man, and ripped the needle out my leg.
I threw up blood and popcorn to the sound of the signature sirens of the Secret Police. Everything for a minute was black, as I’d passed out. The only thing I could smell was silver and blood…. Mostly my blood, but they were gutted or maimed in some way all around me.
Everything was blurry, and I felt weak. I could no longer hold my form since I let Rakaam take over, I’d become a wolf out of the territory. It took everything I had to revert back, even though being larger would have helped…. It wouldn’t have been good out here. I was essentially in enemy territory… and I’d made a mistake.
I saw my babygirl cry for the first time, but I could not hear her screams. I clawed my leg, writhing in pain, making the heavy silver ooze gush out and onto the ground.
“Sir?” Asked I think a medic. I couldn’t tell, as everything was distant and distorted, but I understood enough.
“Don’t use any anesthetic.” I said before blacking out again. I would struggle through this pain for my babygirl….
I knew they meant well, but I needed to be as awake as possible should she need me. They wanted to take me to a human hospital, that much I knew. I disagreed with going, but I couldn’t really fight them, I was too tired.
I woke up on a machine that took my blood out my body and back again. Everything was beeping, and honestly the sound drove me crazy. However, as long as the silver is removed, I should be fine, but holding my mate’s hand so weakly gave her no reassurance. Rakaam took over for the pain, and Eclipse stood next to the human girl, who was now in handcuffs.
The doctors walked in, taken aback by my red eyes. “Mr. Alpha Kaiden?” Rakaam growled at him, not trusting the humans, but it was weak, and had no bite. My Luna held my hand tighter, and it helped me calm my wolf. “Ok,” he exclaimed, unconvinced. “It seems as though someone put fine powdered silver in your blood stream. We gave you a steroid shot for the allergic reaction you were having, but for legal reasons I need to ask you questions on how you got shot.” He paused, looking at the girl in handcuffs and my mate, he took a step forward, as if to confront why she was in them.
Rakaam took completely over, forcing some of my wounds to close so I could sit up. my heart raced, and I was bloodthirsty, but these were not the humans responsible. Rakaam let out a real growl now regardless, fangs out, that I had a taste of power back.
He looked at me wide eyed, and I smelled fear from him, honestly that was my intention. I also startled my mate, who had thoughts racing about how I was going to kill all the humans in the room. If she was not there, maybe, but I knew better. I laid back down and looked at the ceiling suddenly weak from my display, as my wounds reopened, unable to stay that way due to the silver. She looked so concerned for me, she did not move from my side.
“Just take the bullets out.” I said completely exhausted, still feeling the burning poison in my body.
“He was attacked by Headhunters, protecting me.” Said Eclipse quietly.
“Humans won’t know what that is.” I said flatly, Rakaam was still trying to heal this wound. He watched curiously as my body tried, but ultimately failed to heal. It never would as they were.
“Fuck it,” said the doctor, getting some tweezers, he walked up to me and pulled one out slowly. I could now heal that wound. It took all of 1 minute. He watched in interest; the nurse put her hand to her mouth. It was something they’d never seen before, and honestly something a normal wolf would not be able to do, not this fast.
“The other one” I panted heavily. Silver in the blood is probably the most painful thing I have ever experienced. I can handle broken bones, bites and even the lash…. But this felt like venom. It was in my very blood itself, burning my body from the inside. He slowly pulled out the other, hearing a clank of it falling in a dish. I felt better, but I was still weak. I laid there. I just needed an hour. I went to sleep.
The Secret Police returned, they wanted me to give an official statement, and they had identified the girl. Her name was Mary Peterson. She lived in this town but was married to one of the Headhunters I had killed. She had a 2 year old son that would go into foster custody. He had apparently kept it a secret that he was killing us for sport.
I looked at the clock and saw it was 3am. I had healed enough. I got up, left my insurance information and went downstairs. The Secret Police had driven my car to the hospital for me, giving me the keys.
