Chapter 15

Eclipse
We held hands going down the sidewalk, to where I didn’t know, but we were in the shopping district. The quaint window stores were busy, and pups were out of school, adding to the bustle of the town, but all made way for Alpha. He wasn’t stern looking, nor did he smell aggressive anymore, but wolves showed respect all the same.
I showed him all the places that I went to growing up, and all the things that I liked to do when I was bored. He seemed to try and soak in every detail, my every word was like a novel that he couldn’t put down. Getting this much attention was the highlight of my day. We talked mostly about me and what I liked.
“I was wondering; what’s your favorite hobby?” He asked. We’d been talking a little while about what I liked in general. My favorite food, color, and TV show were all asked so far, but he kept answers about himself short.
“I love reading. Especially mysteries.” I grinned. “Though the last series I finished before Shamrock Homes was Midnight. It’s a romantic drama about a mortal in a love triangle with supernaturals. The Sphere of Time was also a good read, but I didn’t finish it. I wound up getting stuck with work and just didn’t pick it back up.”
“No kidding. I do too, I just haven’t had the time as of late.” He said honestly. “I would be lying though if I said that was my favorite thing.”
“What is your favorite thing then?” I asked and his eyes flashed red.
“Being Alpha.” he said with a grin, but I could see his fangs. His wolf was excited, but mine looked suddenly alert. “My bad. I’d forgotten how sensitive your wolf is to me.”
I let the question of Why she submits on the backburner…because it seemed to me every time I tried to get him to open up about himself, he dodged the question. We walked in silence until we went through the predominantly Warrior side of the housing district, but I knew the very edge of this place. There was a small library there that I would frequent, and I pointed to it.
“And over there is where I used to tutor.” I pointed. It was fairly large, and was in between the shopping and housing district. On nice days I’d help the pups with anything from reading to grade school math.
“I’m surprised you didn’t become a teacher.” He said with a small smile.
“I almost did, but I decided to wait and see if that’s what I wanted to do first.” I said returning it.
“Good thing you didn’t, or the principal would’ve had to find a teacher.” He chuckled.
“If you wouldn’t have been Alpha, what would you have done?” I asked, and his smile disappeared.
“There was never room for that ‘what if’ to exist.” He said with a small frown, and I showed my neck.
“Sorry.” I said quietly, but he ran his large hand through my hair.
“Don’t apologize; that’s just something I never really thought about since I’ve run the pack so long. Say, why don’t you tell me about your wolf?” He asked. “What color is she?”
“Her back’s nearly black but her legs are silver. I love Shimmer… she’s about the best wolf anyone could ask for.” I responded, but still a little bothered by Alpha’s answer.
“You’ve seen Rakaam. He’s about as serious as it gets, and just as mean, but he’s crazy for you.” He smiled.
“He scares Shimmer.” I admitted, knowing full well that he scared me too because of his dominant, aggressive attitude.
“I understand why though. I saw your pawprints…. I know she’s a small wolf.” He said quietly. “There’s nothing wrong with that though.” He said walking into the grass. We walked to a trail not too far from the houses, one I’d never seen.
Shimmer whined a bit. She didn’t like that she was small, but it was nothing we could do about it. I was small because neither of my parents had strong wolves being Omegas, and more importantly, I shifted so late. I wouldn’t be surprised if I looked like a pup shifted next to Alpha.
“It makes me wonder… how much did you learn in high school?” He asked with a raised brow.
“I never shifted so they just gave me academic focused classes.” I said looking at him nod in understanding.
“I’ll help you out tonight then.” He smiled.
“Really?” I asked.
“Yeah, I had a little bit of a training exercise in mind. It’ll be fun.” He said rubbing his hand on my back.
“What was it like going to school as a shifter?” I asked.
“I could shift the day I hit puberty. I got into a lot of fights.” He said vaguely, not wanting to talk about it… that much I could tell, so I asked another question.
“What about today?” I asked. “Did you get into a fight today?” I looked up at him, and he visibly stiffened a bit.
“The situation got handled, don’t worry about me Babygirl.” He said like an Alpha.
“I’m glad you’re ok.” I said quietly.
I took that as a warning to drop it, but I didn’t understand why. Was his day That bad?
“You don’t have to submit to me.” He said putting a hand through my hair. “I just figure that you wouldn’t like my answers.”
“Alpha exactly how much stronger are you than any other wolf? I asked, seeing his eyes narrow at me a bit. “I don’t know Much, but I do know that the bigger the difference, the stronger the reaction.”. He looked like he knew the answer, but he didn’t share it.
“You’ll actually see that in a little bit.” He said with a sly smile.
But it was bothering me why he was covered in wolf’s blood. It bothered me that he never told me anything about what he likes. I didn’t want to ruin the moment, but the thought kept coming to me like a boomerang as we got deeper into the forest. The more I threw it away, the more it would come back to me. There was also the chance that it could bring up something he didn’t want to share. Every time I thought of it, his face would go from soft to stern. It was something he didn’t want to talk about, and from the looks of it, the details were something I didn’t want to hear.
The sun was starting to set, and the trail became dirt. It also widened up a bit, and I could hear wolves in the distance. “Alpha, where are we going?’ I asked.
“I said I would help you shift, and I know a spot that will help.” He said walking slower. I wasn’t tired, but his stride was bigger than mine in the tall grass.
I didn’t recognize where we were going, but it was a nice clear night now.
“Alright we’re here” he said proudly, but I was confused. It looked like somewhere you would go to train.
It was a large clearing with cut logs and obstacles. There were shelves to put clothes and shoes. I saw a few other wolves there, already in their forms jumping and running the course with ease.
He set down my bag and took off his clothes and set them inside of a cubby. He stood there, and I was embarrassed. He waited there, arms crossed, having a kick out of my shyness. Most wolves don’t care because if you shift, you are going to be naked. I was still getting used to this.
“…. Lady why me?” I look at the waxing moon, soon it would be full. He chuckled. “Sooner or later you are going to shift, but this time you will have someone who can show you.” He said confidently. All I could remember was how painful it was to not know what I was doing, but Shimmer was ready to go.
I took off my clothes, the briskness of the night gave me goosebumps. I tossed them to him, and he put them away. “Shift” he commanded. Shimmer was ready to take over and begin. He walked over to us, and grabbed my arm gently while it was changing.
“Good now focus on one limb at a time, there’s no rush babygirl.” He said tenderly. Then he grabbed my thigh, making me feel sensations down my spine, as he helped bend my leg into a wolf’s. He rubbed his hands down my back while my face and ears changed. He rubbed his hand down my chest, making me feel a rush of hormones, and he grinned knowing what he was doing to me and Shimmer. With him helping, it didn’t hurt at all.
“Good job, now the fur and your tail.” He said in almost a whispered smirk. I felt his touch on me and it was all I wanted. It soothed every ache, and his touch was so gentle. It was like he had done it a thousand times, and it only took a few minutes this time to shift. I stood there, waiting for him to change, and his eyes became red with his wolf.
Suddenly, he lunged at me with a snarl, turning in midair! I was taken aback by this and yelped because he spooked me.
He let out a deafening howl, and I heard a sinister cackle in my mind. I could see his muscles through his fur, at least twice my size, with the tallest Warrior only going to his shoulder.
