Chapter 113
Kaiden
“I want my papa.” She said quietly. Jerold was busy…. And probably slathered in a thick layer of blood right now. I don’t know if she could… but I could hear the cracks.
“I could get your daddy Noah.” I tried to negotiate.
“No.” she said firmly, and scooted farther under the bed. I could just lift it, but that would defeat the purpose of calming her.
“I won’t hurt you, you know.” I said quietly, and I was handed a stuffed bear by Caleb. I passed it under the bed, and she clung to it for dear life.
“I wanna go home…” She sniffled. She had seen and heard me be the Alpha I used to be, so I wasn’t surprised that she was scared, it still kind of broke my heart though.
I looked under the bed to see she was in a little ball. It reminded me of Heidi, but I wouldn’t bother her with this, she had her own problems to deal with. I didn’t quite know what they were, but she had been busy with school lately. “You’re going to go home, little one, but right now can you come out? I don’t eat hounds.” I said with a small smile.
“Yes you do. You’re gonna eat me.” She said holding the bear tighter. I chuckled, and she screamed.
“I promise I won’t hurt you… would you like to hear a story about your papa while we wait for him?” I asked. She nodded. “Your papa and my papa were friends. They worked together to try and make peace with some humans that were … too mean to the wolves and the hounds.” I told her.
“Did your papa have horns too?” She asked.
“No, but he loved everyone very much. He made a friend everywhere he went, and he was very gentle. One day, your papa was really mad because the humans stole his tail.” I got cut off.
“Someone took papa’s tail?!” She seemed interested now.
“Yes. Your papa loves his tail, but they wouldn’t give it back. So my papa tricked them. He told them that the tail would make another of your papa, so they threw it away. Your papa was grateful to have his tail back, and it was sewn back on him. But to this day there is a tattoo on his back that says ‘No Tail No Peace.’ In Greek.” I told her, and she stopped sniffling. It was something Jerold told me, and I never forgot it. I don’t really remember my parents, as they died when I was young, and about two centuries have passed since then.
“….and you’re friends with Papa too?” She said seemingly to herself. “And you helped daddy Noah…” She said quietly.
“Do you think you can come out now?” I asked her.
She shook her head no, and I let her be under there.
I got my son to get my laptop and sat on the floor until she calmed down. Caleb was on his tablet watching cartoons, but he made sure she could see too. I linked babygirl and Connor about this, and they would get Jerold when he was done. I didn’t want anyone to interrupt him, because this was something he needed.
“…the man that ate mommy said he wouldn’t hurt me too.” She said breaking the silence. I blinked twice. I remembered Noah said that the bodies were chewed up from the attack, but I don’t remember anything about eating. In her mind though, it was.
“Sweet little Minetta I am so sorry; I would never do that. He was a bad man, and it hurts me to know someone did that to your family.” I told her, and she silently sniffled. I was afraid for her wellbeing at this point. She was so fragile, she reminded me of Heidi.
About an hour passed before Jerold slowly came up the stairs. He had his mate by his side, and he refused to let him out his sight. He knocked on the threshold of the door, and came in. “Mini it’s ok. Kaiden, you might need to leave the room.” He said gently. He didn’t want to raise his voice and scare her more, and I didn’t want that either.
“Thank you for watching her.” Said Noah, and the moment I left out the room she came out and hugged Jerold. To her, he was her protector. She hugged Noah too, but he was still… so weak wrapped in the blanket…
“Papa.” She said bursting into tears. Her family was killed by wolves, to be around them was both enriching and terrifying for her.
He hushed his child and patted her back. “I think I’m going to take them home, thank you for the … therapy session.” He said with a small smile.
“The King paid me to keep that one indefinitely…. So if you need any more... therapy, just come over.” I told him. I wish he would have let me have them both…. But being a former Prince has its perks.
He left without another word, but my work was not done….
I rubbed my temples… what a mess. I was to make a formal report of the incident in my house, but more importantly, I was stuck with too much on my plate to leave and try to help the little guy like I wanted. Unfortunately, Noah would be like this until he healed… I didn’t have a single Fucking clue on what else I could help him with…
Babygirl wasn’t of royal blood, and Shelly I don’t think could either. She was the weakest of the three of us, and as it was, I think he would need to damn near be turned to get better. That would be something me or Connor would have to do.
“It’ll work out.” Said Eclipse, rubbing my back.
“I know babygirl… I’ll be back later.” I mumbled, kissing her lightly on the cheek before getting up. It was time to take the pups to school, but I let her take them. We embraced each other for a moment longer before we had to go separate ways…. I hated that.
I watched her leave while I got the keys to my car once they left. I wouldn’t change clothes or anything, nor would I run as my wolf. I needed answers. Both of those fuckers were alive but the servant was in his own special section for supernatural creatures that weren’t wolves, something I made up after Heidi… and I would start buying blood from a company called Interstellar. They were the only company that held blood quantities low enough to order for one vampire.
They didn’t Have to eat, but I didn’t want to deal with him becoming a mindless animal either. The King told me that once a month feedings should be enough to leave him still starving, but not enough to make him crazy.
I sighed, making my way to the prison. It was technically slower to drive, but I didn’t have to change and put on clothes, so there was a bit of a trade off. When I went in, Every head was bowed, even the most unruly prisoners could tell that I was not in the mood today.
The receptionist already had a printout of the cell the servant was in, and I made my way upstairs. He was still healing from what Jerold did to him, so I figured he would be more talkative tender than if I gave him a chance to compose himself.
A guard followed closely behind me, but said nothing holding the keys to get into the cell if I needed. It was understood without linking that he would remain next to me unless I commanded otherwise.
“Inmate number 1-221, state your name.” I said coldly.
“Rudolf Arthur Desmond, servant of the house of the King since the beginning.” He said proudly.
“Then as a servant of King Victor, you understand the rest of your immortal life is in Here?” I said with a raised brow.
“Yes…. Until the Master comes…. He will have me released.” He said ominously. I ignored his bluff.
“I hate to break it to you, but you’re a servant. A Fired one at that. You’ve been thrown away like a dirty rag to Rot in here while the former prince is free to eat and fuck whom he pleases. So, we can do this the easy way, or I can arrange the hard way, because I’m sure King Aeschylus is literally frothing at the mouth the know Why you attacked his mate instead of reporting Lucian.” I said with crossed arms.
“…. Because I agreed with him. I was his servant too… I saw it all. I saw his Disgrace to be with a dirty Halfie.” He hissed. It was an insult given for the half animal creatures like minotaur, harpies and the like… It made me growl at him. It referred to the fact that they were half animal….
“You will watch your tongue in here.” I snapped. He bowed as a servant would.
“Understood my lord…. Foul mouths have no place in the presence of pure bloods.” He said formally. “Even those who are of canine lineage.” Now any within earshot snarled.
“Open the cell.” I said calmly, and Rudolf’s eyes looked horrified.
