Chapter 87

Kaiden
I had finally felt like myself after some rest and quality time with my Luna. She missed me, and I didn’t know that I had been gone since early Sunday morning. It was now Wednesday morning, and I had eaten something while listening to all the nonsense that happened to Connor… it explained why he still smelled of Alpha. He would change back with a few days off. I can handle the small workload he had left. He did everything. He even got stabbed and chose to let the bastard live.
“And one last thing Alpha,” He repeated my title to calm down Rakaam. My eyes were red not because of his smell, but because of what he had been through. “The kid, John Robins isn’t a ‘Robins’ at all but rather, ‘John Stone’.” I clenched my teeth. Didn’t I have enough shit on my plate?
“Is Ronitus out of his mind?” I say tapping my pen on my desk now. This is pretty unheard of, almost taboo. We all live more or less within our respective territories. He noticed I stopped paying attention and started doing all the overdue things that he couldn’t do, or didn’t have time for. Honestly, I almost didn’t have a work load.
I also printed and passed him a 5 day off slip for his office. He looked surprised like I wouldn’t grant him so many days, but in fact I would, I just needed him for Monday. He had done everything else. I called for my sister and gave her time off as well. They had slaved enough, and I know her arm still had to hurt. She had been clawed by a male who carries blood as strong as an ancient line. If I ever catch him again, I am breaking him in half.
I had heard enough, time for everyone to know I was up and probably scare the shit out of them since it was only 12:30. I had enough time to pick up my pup from school, and maybe find the boy. I would merely observe. I dressed in just a black t shirt, jeans, and my black boots, nothing intimidating, and drove my ‘Stang. The ride was nice, and it only took a few minutes.
I noticed when people caught my scent, they looked surprised, or nervous. I guess everyone thought I was dead, which is understandable. The pack needs stability after all. But I would do patrol tonight, so they would hear my howls of dominance anyway. I also wanted this mission to be as silent as possible. I pulled into the spot closest to the truck that smelled of sand, instead of my reserved spot, and went inside.
I went into the main office and immediately the room filled with the scent of submission. I gave them a nod to relax and saw the principal come out her office. She was an average she wolf size of about 6 feet, caramel skin, with grey and blonde hair. She was no older than me, so she was young, and we shook wrists. “I’m glad to see you’re well Alpha.” She greeted.
“Thank you, I was looking for Johnathan Robins.” I say calmly, though I think she caught the venom in my voice. They looked concerned.
“The Jr Warrior Captain is leading drills about now Alpha.” She said with a bow, and I followed her.
/My Alpha, I don’t know what he’s done to get your attention, but please have mercy on the pup. I can smell your anger./ She linked.
I chuckled, which made her more nervous. /I always smell like this, relax./ I lie. I was a bit pissed, but I would not hurt the boy for doing what any decent warrior would do, or for being born an Earthen One.
She led me through the cafeteria. The senior pups were in there eating lunch and being rowdy, but that stopped. It went silent on seeing me, but this was the way to get to the field where they practiced. However, I stopped her, and decided to look at them through the windows.
They would go into the gym to shower after. I figured for now I was looking at his form, his stance, and the others as they all trained with teachers, who were off duty, or retired warriors themselves. He was pretty good, but he seemed to be giving the teacher a hard time because of his strength.
“As you can see Alpha, Jr Warrior Robins is very capable, and the captain of the others. He is actually holding back.” She said proudly.
“How is his temperament?” I ask, ignoring her comment.
“He is a very good student, straight A’s and never tardy. Many of the students see him as a friend.” She said honestly.
“That isn’t what I asked.” I say a bit annoyed.
“Um,” I had made her nervous. “He is very respectful, has a calm disposition, and very honorable Alpha.” She said showing her neck.
I hummed, seeing him flip his trainer too roughly, then apologize.
He was going through puberty, and it wasn’t that he was doing it on purpose. It was because he had outgrown his tutors. He was probably stronger than most in the school because of who he was, and it seemed he probably didn’t even know. So, I figured I should stop him before he hurt someone. I pulled off my shirt, and handed it to Principal Davis. I opened the door before she could protest.
The warriors and their students bowed, but I wasn’t focused on them, I had my glare on the boy. He noticed and bowed as deeply as he could. Some of the others moved away from him, in case I was about to punish him, but that wasn’t what I had in mind.
“I’m sorry Alpha, I did not mean to offend you.” He said very honestly, as I could hear his thoughts. It was clear he was Heidi’s true mate, and his thoughts were innocent. He was afraid of never seeing her again. He was debating on begging, and he was about to when I stopped him.
“No, you misread me pup, stand.” I say, getting into a defensive stance. He was surprised, honored, but could not put it into words.
I motioned for him to come at me, so I could see how far along he was. His stance was good, and so was his form, but I could tell he was trying to hold back. I couldn’t hold my amusement.
“Show me all your power son, I already know how strong you are.” I chuckle.
He went all out, and was somewhere in the ballpark of Beta when he was that age. I didn’t expect much from the scrawny teen, because he WAS a scrawny teen. He wasn’t that bad; in a hundred years or so he could be an Alpha. I could work with this if I had the time. /Make time, he will have to protect our most fragile pup./ Retorted Rakaam, who hadn’t said anything until now.
John seemed to see me talking to my wolf and backed off, showing his neck. I gave him a simple nod, and shook his wrist. “You are not to train here anymore.” I command, and he looked hurt. The other warriors were afraid for him. “You will train with the warriors at the packhouse…. After you drop off my daughter if it’s raining.” I say sternly.
His eyes sparkled like he won the lottery, and I put a firm pat on his shoulder, got my shirt from Principal Davis, and I split ways with all of them. I had only spent an hour there, so I still had time to see what Heidi was doing in class. I followed her scent, letting the poor principal do her job. She had still followed me a bit in case I wanted something else.
“Alright class, pick a group and discuss chapter 7 questions.” Said the male teacher. He looked bored, but it was the end of the day, and they seemed rowdy. Three girls all ran to Heidi’s table, and I was proud that she had made friends. I was about to walk off, but the silver haired girl had a smirk I didn’t like.
They worked on their questions, and they were all done quickly, but none of them helped Heidi. They linked each other so she couldn’t hear them. She had to do them on her own. I held in a growl, and chose to see what my little pup would do. She didn’t say anything or speak up for herself, but she finished the same time they did.
The silver haired girl reached for her paper, and held it out of Heidi’s reach. “Hey that’s too far Jess… I don’t want to get in trouble.” Whined one.
“What if she whines to Alpha?” Whispered her other friend.
“I’ll just let him know she’s screwing my brother behind his back.” She sneered. I stuck my face in the window more, listening intently. I don’t think I had ever been more alert in my life.
“No! John just took me home I swear!” She said truthfully, anyone who listened could hear her heartbeat was true.
“Miss Charred sit in your seat please. Time’s up pass your papers.” Said the teacher dismissively. I was livid.
There were whispers now going around about Alpha’s daughter. She looked like she was about to cry. /We must punish that she pup./ Growled Rakaam.
/I agree, but let me handle it. We don’t need dead pups./ He growled angrily, and I shut him out.
I opened the door. “I’ve heard enough.” I growl on low volume, but it still echoed down the halls. The kid looked so shocked she couldn’t even submit. She just stared. Her friend had to help her.
Heidi was terrified, thinking I would believe that girl like everyone else. I patted her on the head, and looked down at the girl who would bully my pup. She didn’t look at me, but she knew I was glaring at her. I grabbed a spare flimsy, yellow plastic chair, and I sat at their makeshift group formation. I crossed my leg. Interrogation time.
“Little pup,” I leaned back, trying to get comfortable. “Do you know why your brother took my daughter home?” I say calmly. Probably more calm than I should have, because I think I sounded a bit crazy.
“It was raining, Alpha.” She stuttered. I hummed in agreement.
“Yes, and your brother did My brother, Your Beta, a favor while I was away. And do you know why?” I ask. My claws grew, but I wasn’t going to use them. I just tapped the desk.
Her eyes went wide, and the classroom didn’t move even though the bell rang. The door was open, but I had created a crowd at the door of curious students.
“He’s a good person Alpha.” She stuttered, staring at my claws. I stopped. The hair on the back of her neck stood up.
“Yes, John is a good-hearted person, and Heidi can’t fly in thunderstorms. I understand you want to be a good little sister, but do you think it’s wise to harass someone else for him doing his sworn duty as a warrior?” I say, interweaving my fingers together.
“No... No Alpha.” She really stumbled her words. I was satisfied.
“I’m glad we had this talk. There won’t be another one.” I say casually and get up. “I’m taking you home today Heidi.” I mention, and she grabbed her things in her hands without putting them away. I waited in front of the locker that smelled of her so she could get her broom, and it took her a minute. The students parted like a sea for me, and she was quiet as a rabbit being hunted. Honestly, she was starting to smell like one.
She timidly got in, and I patted her head. “Calm down,” I tell her, while she let her imagination run away with her. I sighed. We had made so much progress only for it to be taken away so swiftly.
