Chapter 111

John
I woke up at noon, but my mate still slept… she was late now… I was starting to get worried. We may be immortal, but I didn’t know a soul who didn’t need water. This was day 4 of her being like this… she seemed fine though.
She slept like a baby, holding a small smile in the corner of her lips as if she were dreaming of something pleasant. I still tried gently waking her, ashamed that I ruined my office hours, but most had seen me last night patrolling until about 4 in the morning.
“Get up little mate.” I whispered gently.
She did not respond, and I took her to the hospital. I put her in the car, and Warriors opened the door for me. They could monitor her while she was on whatever magical journey she traveled…. But I was beginning to Worry.
But I also worried about her connection to the Horned One…. She smelled… like just a half wolf… Surely, he wouldn’t take her powers too… It made me drive a little faster.
Garnet was there, waiting for me. “Alpha there’s a challenger here.” He said seeing my grimace. That was the Last thing I needed.
“… Could Beta take him?” I asked.
“He said he’d wait. It is his right.” He grumbled.
“Too much is happening.” I said growling as I held my mate. I was Right at the entrance. She came first. He said he could wait, so I let him. I walked in with her, and I was handed a clipboard.
“We’ll text you the test results.” Said Doctor Humbolt. He was a raven haired doctor who went to human medical school, being an Omega. He’d been board certified for 20 years, being 275. Before this, he was a medicine man for his former pack.
“She won’t wake up. Test all you want, but it is magical in nature.” I said looking at her on the hospital bed… damn.
“I don’t know if he’ll come, but there’s a fae doctor of some renown that travels. Maybe he might help.”
“I’ll pay whatever he wants.” I said leaving. I couldn’t bear seeing her like that again. She smelled of weakness… like an Omega, though not as subtle….
I shifted, ripping my clothes and howling once I left the immediate vicinity of our little clinic. I snarled a good growl, one I hadn’t done since I defeated Herrakken. He better Pray that I don’t get my claws on him.
All the while I had a nagging feeling that I was forgetting something, but I was too distracted to figure it out. It could wait until my mate was better and this ass was defeated.
[Begone and Live, or stay and Die!] I roared, weaving between trees now.
The Rogues with him screamed in terror and ran while the tawny furred leader of their group charged without hesitation. He was double their size, being about a Warrior sized wolf. But I was an Alpha from the Royal Council. He had no chance in hell.
[If you want to die That bad, I’ll oblige!] I snarled, shoving him while biting his side like a train. He screamed snapping at me, but he could not get in a single blow.
He pulled his best option, running off as I let go, so I could chase him.
[Fuck me! You’re Crazy!] He screamed.
[If you stop running, I’m snapping you in HALF!] I roared, hearing the trees burst with Warriors chuffing in laughter while he got a second wind. I don’t think I’d ever seen a Rogue run so fast.
“Oh my Lady Moon, our Alpha is Amazing!” giggled a female Warrior, slapping her black furred, shifted mate on the shoulder. I think her name was Warrior Fraz. She hugged him around the neck, and he chose to be more stoic, standing at attention, waiting for my order to chase them down if I commanded.
[He started it.] I growled. [Get me a fresh sweep of the border and link me if there’s any trouble.]
My heart pounded, and my wolf wanted Out, but this time I would stop him. He thrashed about, and I imagined him in a cage. It was the first time I’d ever thought to do that, but in my rush, it just came to me.
/Shut up and sit Down! Our mate is Sick and we have to find a solution for her! / I thought to him, making a U-Turn back to the clinic.
I weaved between trees when I shifted, tired from going full throttle both ways, but I was met at the door by a nurse. She was a red headed former Warrior from my father’s pack, though she was retired due to losing an arm. I only noticed because she had pants in the other.
“Woah Alpha. Luna is stable.” She said loudly, extending her hand out for me to get them.
I shifted, shimmied them on, and followed her. Heidi was fine… she still held a soft smile on her porcelain face… “Thank the Lady…” I mumbled.
“I made sure that we also injected her with Moon Blessed Saline just in case. I doubt she has any silver poisoning, but it never hurts to give a single dose.” Said Doctor Humbolt. “Please rest Alpha. Your health is important too.”
“I’ll be fine. That Rogue couldn’t even get a bite in.” I grumbled.
“We heard….” He said leaving out what he probably Wanted to say, that I sounded Rabid.
“Good. Maybe that will give me some Peace the rest of the day.” I complained.
… I still had to meet the Beast Prince again too. He said tomorrow… and I am sure since he can leave when he wants, that if I didn’t show up soon, that he’d go on an adventure….
I still haven’t told my dad about that. I rubbed my temples…. I gave that man my phone.
I bet my search history needs to be burned at the stake.
Then I realized that my father probably texted me…
Then I Realized the Doctor was likely going to text That number if he already hadn’t! “Don’t text me.” I blurted. “I need a new phone.”
“I can link Omega Winston to bring you one if you don’t mind waiting.” He offered.
“Yes, and in the meantime, I need to call my father.” I said being handed his phone.
The Pervert Prince can Wait. I needed to fix this. He answered the first ring.
“You just Had to give him internet, Didn’t You.” Was the first thing he said.
“It was all I could think of…” I admitted.
“He won’t stop sending me Tock Ticks.” He growled. “They’re all pet compilations.”
I held a laugh.
“Sorry.”
“You Aren’t, you Little Shit.” He said with a growl.
“I mean it isn’t the Worst thing he could send.” I said sheepishly.
He took a breath. “And then I blocked him, and he did it AGAIN with an internet calling app….so I unblocked it…. Because there’s no point. He kept to himself his Entire stay, even growing his own damn food and raising rabbits….Lady Damnit.”
-----Heidi-----
I was my wolf in my dream, something that didn’t happen often, but it was welcome. I ran in an endless field of flowers and trees. The smell of the damp morning air stayed the same, and the twilight ambiance held birds of many colors. They flew above me, and chirped songs I’d not heard before, but I welcomed.
I howled, and no one responded. No one was there. That was fine…. I idly sniffed flowers… I laid in meadow grass. I rolled around in it, not caring that it was getting in my fur. I saw little rabbits and butterflies too. They all danced in the now misty cool forest filled with pines. The fresh smell of damp earth under my feet gave me traction to run faster than I ever had while awake….
This was a nice dream…. It was nice to see something so wonderful, when before my mate all I saw was horror.
Thinking of it for only a second replaced the scene laid before me dramatically.
For only a moment, the grass was gone, replaced with cracked earth and dead, burning trees. The little birds were bats, and the little rabbits were small creatures with bulbus glowing eyes, skittering just out the line of sight, no longer keeping their fluffy form, looking like owl eyed hairless rats….
The sweet air was sulfur….
The twilight blue sky became hues of red and black… but there was no fear.
I knew where I was, as I’d been here before.
And then everything became wonderful again.
But I wouldn’t be tricked any longer. I hated to do it, but I thought again of how I was treated before… my entire childhood…. The landscape returned, but with it came the scene of seeing the punished.
Here was where He punished souls who angered him…. This was the place where people who’d offended him personally rotted…. Each tree was a person… They all had tormented faces.
“Don’t do that to yourself.” Said a woman I thought I wouldn’t see again…
“…mother.” I said shifting. I walked slowly to her standing there… she too was a tree.
“Don’t come closer. I don’t want to hurt you…. I’m so sorry.” She cried sap from her unclosing eyes… even they were bark…
I hugged her anyway. She couldn’t…. and I burned. It hurt… but I got to see her again. I got to Touch her…. My tears put out little flames here and there as they fizzled in the heat, falling on her scorched bark.
“I’m sorry.” She whispered…. “Lia may be fickle… but I’d never known such a harsh punishment…. Run before he comes back.”
“I will not…” I said firmly.
“Heidi Please… I cannot bear to see You like this… I am dead …. In life And death I Chose to be a terrible person. I Chose to come back and kill … so many innocent humans, and witches alike…I used wolves as experiments…. I shunned the love of my mate that I get revenge. If I’d have done that… I would have run into you... but before that, had I raised you in life… you would be here too…” She admitted.
“But-” She cut me off.
“In my Pain I repent… It is Fair that I am here. In life, I took the lives and souls of others for my gain, and my coven’s… in death, revenge filled my heart… I could be spending my undeath with my sweet wolf… but… but now I rot and burn here. To be eaten by worms on the inside… each one representing a victim…” She said trying to look away from me.
“Heidi why are you hear? I did not summon you.” Said the Horned One.
I kneeled immediately. I could hear his growl, but what would he expect… there was no comfort here… and I was Banished… All I could see was Rahrraam, all I could think of was the Pit…
“Sleep.” He commanded, though it wasn’t stern or with bite…he said it like a concerned father.
