Chapter 24
Kaiden
The sun went down, the full moon was about to rise, and I was in our room on the Alpha floor with my mate. This strengthened me, and I was feeling better the later it got. This would be her first Harvest moon able to turn. This is the time when all those that didn’t find a mate changed and frantically ran through the woods, barking and playing in the night. It was the night of peace; no killing was to be had this night…. or else they would suffer punishment from the Lady herself. For those that were already marked, our bonds were strengthened by spending time with each other. I was content to stay with her, just like this, watching reruns and having tea, but I saw Shimmer was miserable. What she wants is important too.
“I want to get some fresh air.” I sighed so pitifully, that I think I overdid it.
“Not sounding like that you won’t. You’re going to stay in bed until you heal.” She demanded, glaring at me, daring me to get up. I was tempted to growl at her, just to be a dick, but I know that would probably hurt her feelings. She’s so small, and she’s challenging the biggest wolf on the territory.
“My Luna, if I could just go outside…” I continued with my bullshit, pretending it was hard to get up, reaching for the window.
“I SAID NO!” She screamed getting on top of me. I raised an eyebrow. I had never been told ‘no’ so firmly in over 2 centuries, yet here I was letting my mate have her way with me.
/I need to do this more often/, I thought to myself. She leaned in and kissed me this time, she grabbed my face with both her hands, and she looked me in the eyes pleadingly, her body just right on top of me in just a thin blue dress and her underwear.
/Yes./ I evilly thought to my wolf, still pretending to be at her mercy. I weakly held her close to me, hearing her loud exhale when I kissed her. I grabbed her by her delicate torso, deepening the kiss, and she broke it, looking at me full of concern.
“Please don’t hurt yourself Alpha, you need to re-” I grabbed her right ass cheek, giving it a good squeeze. “ALPHA KAIDEN” She squealed angrily, jumping off of me. I knew it was wrong, but I just laughed. Her face turned as red as a ladybug. I loved seeing her tiny and angry. She was so feisty when it came to me, and I wanted to keep teasing.
I got up and started taking off my clothes without telling her why. She stood there even more embarrassed and confused. I walked up to her naked.
“Now make me get back in bed.” I teased. She was shy, and timid about me being so close, and I kissed her on the forehead. [Or we could go outside] I said as I shifted into my wolf and waited for her. It honestly hurt, but she would never know that. I hid it so well I don’t think she even noticed with our bond.
Shimmer had taken over, her eyes completely silver. “Stop playing games.” She growled very lustfully, and I ran. Eclipse is not ready; it would be unfair to let the sway of the moon cause me to do something with her she didn’t want yet. Shimmer was ready day one, and so was my wolf, they are instinctual that way. My wolf was also upset, but enjoyed the idea of teasing her a little more. Being stuck in a bed had made us restless.
So, I get to do the next best thing, I got to run just fast enough to keep her away.
[Get back here!] She yelled in wolf, and there were chuckles as we ran down the stairs. A Warrior opened the back door for me, and I zipped out, with her close behind. To my surprise, she carried her tail high as a dark gray and silver flag, showing the pack she was Luna… I didn’t say anything, as that needed no praise. She WAS Luna, and as such she should fear no wolf.
[If you catch me, I’ll go back to bed.] I yelled happily. She’d never get me, but I would stay close. Other wolves were outside doing the same thing, except Beta. He’d already said he would cover for me tonight with the speech. This year was meant to be simple. Too much had gone on during the time it takes to plan for anything grand, not that we really did that, but the pack understood.
[Alpha!] She complained that I wasn’t being fair. I wasn’t, but Rakaam hated losing too much.
“Pack, hear me.” Said Beta at the top of the pack stairs in the front. Both of us held a tiny truce to run and see what he would say. We both stood next to him, as Alpha and Luna, while he held his mate in his arms. He was mated with Nancy on time, and honestly, I never held any jealousy for that. It is the Goddess that makes choice, and through her I had mine next to me.
“The Goddess gives but one.” He said looking to me before continuing. He was giving me room to interrupt if I saw fit, but I would let him have tonight. “In her mercy and grace, she saw fit to allow us to feel what she feels. The mate bond. It is the strongest and purest of all bonds…. Unbreakable unless we reject our half the goddess gave us. Even in death, we still yearn for them…That special someone shares half their soul, and all their heart. May luck be on your side tonight for those that still search, and for us that have, may our bond become stronger with who we have at our side…..And as everyone already knows,” everyone chuckled… I was a little embarrassed. “give a clap for Alpha. His curse is lifted.” He said nearly word for word the speech that I usually give. They clapped, or wagged tails, as did I. I said nothing this year; I allowed my brother to be Beta. To interrupt or add would be disrespectful in this case.
“Alpha, please be with your mate.” Said Nancy, Connor’s mate. She was an average height she wolf of brown hair and green eyes. She bowed to me showing respect, but there was a time when they’d first met that she was terrified of us, being red eyed wolves.
I ran before my little mate could realize that technically she could have got me then. [Bye!]. I teased, feeling the wind in my fur, feeling like I’d never felt before until I met her.
[Hey!] She growled, followed by laughs.
I was tempted to take her to the stream, but it was a tad too far away from the pack, and it was the one night I would allow Rogues to enter my borders. If they found their mate, there was still no guarantee that they would behave.
I settled for the next best place I could think of, a spot that I knew she’d never been to. The old stables was a spot that only the wolves that had been here since before cars knew of. There was a small stable that held 20 horses still in good working order, along with a small stocked pond. It wasn’t too far from the now park, as that was their pasture in the olden days… back when I was so much more aggressive than I am now… even compared to a year ago, there was nothing I would allow to slide.
[Kaiden…] She said quietly in awe. I think it was the first time she hadn’t called me my title besides the mall, and for that I was glad.
[How about a break?] I asked, and she nodded. [I was hoping for another small truce.]
[Alright then… this doesn’t count.] She said in wolfspeach, though I could tell she was happy.
I walked to the lake with her, allowing her to make herself comfortable, and I laid down next to her. The water was still, and the full moon damn near made it glow. Her legs and belly also glowed, being an almost reflective silver if it were just a bit brighter, but that wouldn’t have been possible. I loved her. I really did…. I never thought I’d ever find my mate or fall so hard… and now that I had her, I wanted nothing more.
We sat like this until it was early dawn. She was getting sleepy, and to keep her awake I thought it would be fun to tease her again by ‘restarting’ our game of chase. She seemed to be getting better at letting Shimmer take over, and run faster, I had to run the rest of the night too.
