Chapter 55
Eclipse
It felt like forever with all the traffic, and I don’t think I had ever seen so many humans in one place before. The buildings were tall, and all of them were walking down wide sidewalks, buying things at stands, shops, and waiting for taxis or buses. I never thought I would ever leave the pack territory, and here I was, in New Apple.
We eventually made it to the coastline and the traffic was still bad, but we were there. There was a big sign that read New Apple Aquarium, and I bounced in my seat, I had always wanted to come here! “Calm down babygirl, let me park.” He laughed, finding a space in almost the back of the lot, because it was packed.
I held his hand, and we walked in. The ceiling was high, and we walked down a gentle ramp that led us to a tunnel that was made of glass. There were signs that talked about all the different sea creatures that you might see, and I soaked it in, taking my time to read it all. But Alpha seemed like he was looking for danger. He was so serious and on alert, but his touch was gentle, still holding my hand. We looked at all the fish and the seals that were in the water. They playfully danced with each other, and I leaned onto him. We were surrounded by all the fish in a big glass dome. I loved every minute of it.
He seemed to relax a bit, and I dragged him to a big section where it was almost like an underwater courtyard area. There were a lot of other couples, holding hands or kissing under the beautiful colorful lights of the oceanic water above us. I looked up at him, watching his neutral expression, until he noticed I was watching him instead of the fish. He smirked at me and I looked down in a bit of embarrassment.
He leaned down, putting his hand under my chin to look at him, and kissed me, pinning me to the glass a bit. His claws came out, and he ran his hands down my sides, gripping my hips while he pressed me harder on the glass, and I wrapped my arms around his neck, returning his advances. My body was in a state of waves of desire. He was all I wanted, and his love was all I needed. We had been so busy, so worried about the what ifs and had beens that I just let go. He picked me up and made a low almost human grunt, hoisting me up a little higher, and kissing me down my neck and on my mark. I moaned at him being so blunt about what he wanted.
I heard a whistle and people going ‘Woo!’ This immediately woke me up that we were in a public place. “Alpha put me down!” I whisper squeal, embarrassed, my inner wolf livid that I stopped him. He gave me one last kiss, grunted, and put me down.
“We’re finishing this when we get home babygirl,” he whispered in my ear, taking my hand to find the exit… which warranted more whistles. We made our way slowly back to the parking lot.
There were wolves that were waiting for us near the car, claws out. Alpha held in a growl standing in front of me, as there were humans around in this crowded place. “Chill, do you want the humans to notice?” said a calm blue eyed, black-haired guy in a green t-shirt and jeans. He seemed like he was an Alpha, though he was so young, he couldn’t possibly be I thought. He looked like he was a teenager.
They seemed to size each other up, eyeing each other, seeming to see who was stronger, and Kaiden was taller by at least a head. “Let them see.” Kaiden said with a sneer. There was a tense silence, and the teen walked up to Kaiden and stared him in the face eye to eye.
“You are on my territory tourist; you have no power here.” He said calmly without growling, but his eyes were on fire with his wolf. His eyes were yellow. It was silent again. Their faces were stern, and neither flinched. They seemed to be talking with body language. All of a sudden, the teenager took a step back, a sign of submission. “I don’t want a fight in the middle of my territory, just go.” He said boastfully, but the others knew. He had lost face in front of his people.
Everyone could feel the tension in the air, it was thick with murderous intent, and most of it was from Alpha Kaiden. He let out a sigh, being the victor of this battle of unspoken language. “I am Alpha Kaiden of the CharredMoon, grandson of the Charred One.” He said with full authority, and the warriors felt his power, they submitted. I know why he had done it, saying his full title; it was so that the other wolves knew why their Alpha submitted. It was to help him keep order after we left.
The Alpha let out a whistle. “Blood of the Charred One eh, that’s definitely something you don’t hear every day. I’m Alpha Oliver, I recently replaced my father.” He said with a sad tone at the end.
He looked at Alpha, and his stern look changed. “Sorry for the misunderstanding neighbors, nobody told us that we would have a southern pack come today.” He walked up and extended his hand to reach to Kaiden. Alpha Oliver tried to shake Kaiden’s hand, but he grabbed by the wrist. Kaiden’s eyes were still red, but he was calmer. I had only ever seen Alpha shake hands this way; shaking hands was something I guess only humans do. “Old school, what are you doing up here?” He said with a smirk.
“None of your concern,” Alpha said calmly, his eyes amber yellow. The other Alpha looked like he had been offended that Kaiden didn’t tell him, but he didn’t push it.
“Well drive safe, and be careful. We’ll trail you out the territory.” He said, agitated, and walked away with his warriors to their cars.
“Will do.” Said Kaiden nonchalantly.
We got into the car and they trailed us. They seemed to mind link Alpha and escorted us out their territory, not out of aggression, but to make sure that we were safe and unfollowed by Headhunters. There were a lot of humans around today in their territory, so there was always a chance that one of them were.
We drove another long 2 hours; he stopped and got us coffee at McDarrel’s. The big highway began to get smaller and smaller, until it was a single lane. We drove through thick trees, until we saw it. There was a toll booth with a little drawbridge blocking us from going any farther.
“Papers.” Said the man in a security guard suit. He smelled like Alpha when he comes home from fights, like danger. Kaiden seemed not to notice and handed over the large folder out the glove compartment.
“Welcome Crown Prince.” The man said with a bow and let us through. The drive was silent, and Alpha seemed to be tense the rest of the way, so I didn’t question him. He would tell me in time.
Soon the trees turned into homes that looked like they were quaint cottages with nice cars in driveways. These were the elite of the elite. In these homes were the strongest wolves in the country, and honestly, it could be smelled as such. The hair on the back of my neck stood up, my body sensing some unseen danger.
I wasn’t afraid, not yet, but I knew I would be. I felt like the feeling someone gets before jumping off something a little too high. This smell felt like the feeling you get when you realize something is wrong. It was a smell that felt like the dread you get, opening the door to a set of long dark basement stairs. I wanted no part of it, but I knew that I had no choice. We had to go to this place, and there was nothing that could be done about it. How could something so elegant looking be dangerous?
The place was well manicured and beautiful, a wonderful stone mansion that was at least 5 stories tall in the distance. It was basically a small castle, and there was a large grand driveway with a line of pine trees perfectly straight down, and at the end, we were directed to give the keys to another wolf to park the car and get our things. Kaiden held my hand and knocked on the door.
A tall nearly scentless wolf opened the door; he was an Omega. He had his hair slicked into a reddish-brown ponytail. He wore a black suit, and seemed to be very proper. “Welcome Crown Prince and Luna, we have your royal chambers ready for you.” He said with a bow, and turned to lead us to our room. The living room was a grand size with black marble floors and gold accents. There were chandeliers everywhere, making the place look lavish, almost gaudy. All the while, the smell of absolute danger was lingering in the air, like it was a cloud that wouldn’t leave.
We went one floor short of the top, where a small sign said ‘Prince’s Quarters’. The smell here was its most potent, and I grabbed Kaiden’s hand harder; he was tense as well, but not nearly as much as me. The fear of this place began to grip me when I saw him. The King, and he looked like he was upset, but otherwise he had a blank expression, walking down the stairs of the top floor.
He had his jet black hair in a braid that went to his hips, and he wore a red t-shirt with black jeans and slip-on running shoes. He was massive, muscular, and looked every bit of 30. His eyes burned like they were on fire, not red like Kaiden’s wolf, but they honestly looked like they were aflame, like embers on charcoal. There were no whites to his eyes, they looked like a wolf’s. and I could not avert my eyes off him. I froze in place, like a deer in the headlights.
I felt a large hand roughly grab the back of my head and push it down, forcing me to bow. I heard his steps, he was approaching, and I could not believe that there was a wolf that could exist like this.
He was the danger.
