Book 2 Chapter 6
John
I woke up with dirty looks given to me from the warriors that walked the Gamma floor, and I could hear the chatter upstairs. Alpha Ronitus had taken residence in the Alpha’s room. Knowing Alpha, he probably just let him use it because he’s never there. I went up stairs to see my father doing paperwork. He was essentially using the room as a backup office, so he must have intended to stay a while.
“Ah, good morning son.” He said with a smile, and my real mother was in the Luna’s chair helping him do whatever it was he was doing.
“Take a good look son, sometimes pack and council duties all pile up at the same time.” She chirped.
“Good morning, I wanted to talk to you about mom and da-I mean the Robin’s future.” I tried to sound official, but the genuine smile on my father’s face calmed me a little. he motioned for me to sit.
“What of them?” Said my mother with an agitated sigh.
“Aemi, we cannot expect him to love us instantly. I will make them your personal attending servants. They are versed in nearly every castle service… along with being pretty good assassins and spies.” He said stretching with a yawn. “My Mating Ceremony gift to you.” He clicked his pen and signed something that came out the fax machine quickly, then faxed it back.
“I don’t want servants….” I said looking out the window.
“They were your mother’s before you were born.” He said with a raised eyebrow.
“Ok then, I’ll take them... but I won’t punish them.” I told him firmly. He chuckled.
“That’s also why I give them to You. as your personal servants, they are your responsibility…. And under your protection.” He said with a smirk at his mate.
“Son I’m not a monster… I just wish for you to love me as you love them… but I am too late. Your soul is bonded to another family and it hurts my heart. I wish things were different…I wished I could have been the mother that raised you…” She said looking down, and I got up and went to her, and gave her a hug. It surprised them both. I hate to see a woman’s tears…
“You are my mother… and I thank you for making the hardest decision a mother could make. Calm down, we can catch up now together.” I said with a small smile.
She growled softly, and kissed me on the top of the head. She mumbled, and my father cleared his throat linking her and she sat down.
“We must also speak of the results of the investigation of the male who tried to kill your mate.” He said with a small growl.
“Yes, what of that guy.” I said holding in a snarl.
“He was a known for hire hitman. He was most likely out to kidnap your mate to weaken you… so he could kill you.” He said shaking his head and looking down. “This is your oldest brother’s doing. He was removed of his title and status for working with Brutus, the untrue Third Seat…” He said looking at me in the eyes. They were brown with his wolf.
“Would he try it again?” I asked, concerned for my mate.
“No, Herrakken won’t try with me here. He knows I would be able to track his location.” He growled.
I nodded. “Good, but I still want to check on her to make sure she’s ok.” I said getting hugged again by my mother. I slowly let go of her. Now that I noticed, she felt like a vulnerable marshmallow of death. The power these elders gave off once you touch them or get close to them was unreal. I waved them a small bye and went downstairs to shake it off. I went to my beat-up little truck. The red was chipped off it, and I needed to put in a new starter. My dad gave me this car… and taught me how to drive in it.
I smiled thinking about how I’m the reason for all those bumps and dents. It cranked on the third try, and I drove to CharredMoon territory side. Heidi would probably be still asleep. I didn’t feel her stir at all in our link.
When I got out, I waved at Warrior Jeremy. He eyed me angrily, but he didn’t say anything until I got out the car.
“So, you come here, live among us, only to stab us in the back eh?” He said with a small snarl… Lady damnit I was already at the door.
“I didn’t betray anyone, now please make peace and leave me be.” I said calmly, but he lunged at me anyway. My mate saw me break his arm, and she stood there staring.
“Heidi, I didn’t want you to see that.” I said quietly, and she looked down. She didn’t like violence, but she surprised me with her hug. She was a timid wolf when it came to that, because she was a sweet soul.
“I’m okay, I just wasn’t expecting to see this so early in the morning.” She said with a small frown. I leaned down and kissed her on the cheek. She was lying, she was a little scared, if that was even the right word for it… maybe startled. She had never seen me be violent to another pack member before. That kind of thing can be upsetting.
“I promise then that I’ll make it up to you.” I told her with a small smile, and I took her hand, and held it until we got to the car.
-------Heidi------
We held hands while he drove. The sun was out and beaming brightly, I wondered where he was taking me, but he didn’t say a word. He had a small smile on his face occasionally making a quick glance at me. I could see the love he held for me, and it gave me butterflies.
He pulled over, and parked into Charred Mart. He opened the door for me. “Heidi, I thought maybe we could celebrate. I want to do something special.” He said with a toothy grin.
“What did you have in mind?” I asked him, and he got a small handbasket, getting lettuce, tomato, onion, and some fresh apples from the produce aisle. He went to the kitchen aisle, getting a spatula and paper plates along with other stuff.
“It’s a surprise.” He said with a small smile. I followed him into the meat section, and he got a six pack of beef patties. He got us both bottled teas and he bought a bag of ice. The line was long, but fast.
“Ah John, I see you found your mate!” Said a woman checking us out. She was a lean built blonde woman, and I think I went to school with her? I didn’t have the same classes as her, but John must have.
“Yup! She’s mine, all 5 feet of her.” He beamed.
“Ahem, 5’1” I said proudly, and he laughed. He was a giant compared to me. Well, everyone really except mom.
“Yes, all 5’1 of her.” He corrected amused with himself, and we left the store. People waved in the parking lot, and we waved back. John was popular on this side of the pack, even though he lived on the other side. Though oddly enough, there were some glares as well. It came mostly from his fellow Warriors and I wondered what he’d done.
It could just be jealousy. Chimed in Sparkle. She was right. He was honored above everyone yesterday, and on top of that I was his mate: the Alpha’s daughter. I am The Prince’s adopted daughter. I was given the royal stamps and seals on my paperwork, making me a princess. It would put John in the royal family. But the pack here was so casual… Maybe it was just jealous wolves? I wasn’t too worried about fights though. He was stronger than the pack’s Assistant Beta. That had to count for something.
“Little mate I hear your thoughts” He sang. “Derrick likes to kick my ass on a regular basis, Alpha’s orders.” He said playfully and I giggled.
He pulled over into the Crimson side training grounds, where wolves could freely shift and run obstacles, or spar. I wanted to do absolutely none of that…. And what would he do with all the fresh food! He took the food and carried it in one hand, and held my hand with the other. The forest was beautiful, and I saw the occasional wolf jump in the corner of my eyes.
“I’ve never been to this part of the pack before.” I admitted.
“Good, because it would ruin the surprise.” He chuckled.
There was a huge tree and a small grill in the middle of nowhere. The clearing was full of little wild growing daisies and buttercups. No one was around but us, except the birds and the butterflies. He rolled out a small red blanket and put some wood in the grill, but he frowned, mumbling curse words.
“What’s wrong?” I asked him.
“I forgot the lighter kit.” He said, looking around in the bags of food to see if maybe he had misplaced it, but I giggled.
I walked up to the grill and put my hands on the biggest log in there, and it lit. He facepalmed. “Tada.” I said looking at him be impressed.
“Wow… I forgot about that.” He said sheepishly, and put the patties on the grill. He left space for the onions, because he used his claws to cut them into rings. He then used a little bottled water that he brought to wash them. I sat cross legged watching him. He had a smile that showed his dimples.
He got the paper plates and made burgers complete with iced tea. He put it in front of me, and I felt shy. He was directly in front of me. It gave me butterflies. This was our first date, and I didn’t know what to do with that realization. “Thank you.” I told him looking away, and he kissed me on the forehead.
“Your happiness is enough.” He told me. I took a bite out of my burger, completely embarrassed, and he smiled wide.
I didn’t know what to say! It made me more nervous, but in a good way. I didn’t know how much I liked him until now. He was more than a best friend… we ate under the tree, and I tried to look at my food. Then I picked at my plate… what do you do on a date?! I thought to myself. I want him to kiss us. Said Sparkle loudly in my head responding to my question.
No no no! I screamed. I blushed, looking at the blanket I sat on, thinking about how he kissed me in front of the entire pack! He claimed me in front of our parents, and I was mortified that she would say that so casually! There will be no making out! I yelled at her and she tilted her head confused.
…. Then can he at least mate us now? She asked wagging her tail.
SPARKLE NO! I screamed, and she was confused as to why I would chastise her.
