Book 2: Chapter 17
John
“Son, are you sure?” Father asked me sternly, looking at my mate. Mother was in surgery, and Heidi was asleep, smelling of fear. I wondered what was happening to her, but they wouldn’t let me touch her. The nurse that put in her IV was knocked unconscious, and it was deemed to be magical in nature. I looked at her, and then the machines she was hooked up to.
“Father, as much of an honor as it is to live in the packhouse, I can’t. My mate comes first.” I told him firmly, expecting resistance. He put a hand on my shoulder.
“She may be in more danger if you two live alone.” He said firmly, but calmly. “However, I will not force you.” He said looking at me with his dark brown eyes. His gaze was intense, but I held my stance. I would not allow my mate to be mistreated. Also… she seemed to be fearful this entire time. Even in her sleep, she smelled of rabbit.
“Sorry father, my mate needs to adjust.” I told him. He nodded, accepting it without the argument I thought we would have. I was glad for that, but I didn’t like it. He was too easy going for a royal who held court. It almost made me suspicious of him.
“Then give me the human, that I may dispose of the last one.” He said coldly looking at her, but I shook my head.
“She was how we escaped. She betrayed her pack doing the right thing. I cannot allow her to die for that.” I told him, and she nodded.
“Very well then. This human will become an honorary Omega.” He said casually. They hadn’t even put the human in holding, so I decided it would be best to keep her with me. I didn’t eat humans, neither did Heidi. Also, father seemed to be distracted with my mother still weakened from being hurt. The mortal stood behind me like a shield, sensing the hostility toward her, even though they knew she was innocent. My mate stirred, then awoke with the silver eyes of her wolf.
She practically shook like a leaf while I held her small hand. I had requested a house instead of a packhouse floor, because for one it would rearrange my father’s ranked wolves, and also… with my mate the way she is now… anyone messing with her could destroy her confidence. She couldn’t hold my gaze, and she submitted to me. I hated that. Her mind raced a mile a minute too. The mention of the Coven on the other side of the state had her white as a piece of paper.
“Heidi hold your head high, you’re safe.” I reassured her in the car. The human girl had to sit between us, but I was fine enough with it. I don’t think Heidi minded either, she was terrified of whatever happened in her sleep. They said it was magical, and I wondered did she push herself too hard or something…
“Ok.” She whispered, which made the human concerned.
“Mortal calm down too, I don’t need your fear freaking her out more.” I warned calmly, pulling into the small pastel blue and white house. It was one story, with three bedrooms and two baths. The walls inside were white, and it was fully furnished with brown leather furniture, and light blue carpets. The kitchen was light blue, almost white, and the round hardwood table in there could sit about 5 people nicely. It was an older model home, though it looked like it was built yesterday.
This was a pack home, common in most packs. It’s easier for new members to settle if there are homes already avalible. They’re given a 30 year mortgage. We pay the home off by working, and this in turn, helps the pack afford more homes. We live pretty much like mortals, with the exception of shifting. It surprised me that wolves this old adapted so well.
“Your home is lovely.” Said the human woman.
“Thank you. By the way, what’s your name?” I asked her, and she froze a little. The hunters had mentioned it on the plane, but I didn’t catch it with all the commotion.
“Anastasia Spencer… but most people call me Ann.” She said looking around.
“I’m John, and this is my mate, Heidi. I had you come with us because I can protect you with my status.” I said to her, and my little mate waved.
“I thank you for saving me…it is nice to be away from the other hunters….” She said letting out a sigh of relief.
“You already saved us, even the pack by your actions. Had that drone followed us, we would be in trouble. Heidi…. Your hands are glowing. Are you ok?” I asked her, and she shook her head.
“I shouldn’t hide things from you…. but if I tell you, you will probably reject me.” She said looking away from me, like she had done something wrong. I had never felt my heart hurt this badly before. It felt like I had been shot…
-----Heidi-----
My heart beat out my chest. The Horned One was pretty much forbidden to worship in any way, by pretty much Every people….and here he was patting my head and calling me his child today. And I Was. At least spiritually. He was the God that not only took favor on me… but was the one who created my soul.
“I won’t ever do that to you.” He said hugging me gently, though I knew I couldn’t get out of it if I wanted. I took a deep breath, wondering how I should tell him.
“…. The Horned One called me his daughter… he’s my patron…. My soul’s creator.” I said quietly. He frowned.
“I don’t care, you’re still my mate.” He said kissing my forehead.
“Any other witch would be happy to know that He created them, but I was hoping it was going to be the Pale Lady…. It means that no real good can come of my magic… It means that I’m a dark witch…” I told him.
“I don’t care Heidi.” He said growling softly. “Though, we will keep this secret. None of the rest of us can perform magic… and I doubt others will be as trusting if they know that you’ve been blessed by the Lord of Darkness, as innocent as you are.” He said with a chuckle.
“She’s Dark Blessed?” Said the girl, in disbelief. “I knew this was too good to be true….” She whispered, looking at the front door…. John let go of me and stood in front of the woman in nearly the blink of an eye.
“Ann we will not hurt you, but so help me if you make trouble, I’ll turn you in, and give you to the Warriors to detain.” He warned sternly, but he didn’t yell or intimidate. She nodded.
My stomach growled, and he had us sit on the couch while he made something to eat. He turned on the gas stove and got out some pans. He made some grilled cheese sandwiches and pulled out some sodas from the fridge. It was already full of food, because I could only assume they got the house ready before we got here. There was still the faint smell of cleaner in the air, and everything was tidy and shiny. I looked around the room, not saying anything to Ann. Not because I didn’t like her, but because I didn’t know what to say.
We sat on opposite ends of the couch, not even looking at each other. I hadn’t really spoken to humans before, and I didn’t get why John chose to protect her, but I would respect it. She came through for us, when I was positive that she was going to hold true to her people. We all sat silently at the round table in the light blue kitchen. It wasn’t awkward, but I didn’t like it. I finished, putting the dishes in the sink, and John’s phone buzzed.
“My father texted me the conditions of your Restricted Omega status. You are the lowest ranking wolf in the territory. For all intensive purposes, tell anyone you come across that you were born with a dormant wolf. If you wish to work, there are plenty of shops and such, but you may never leave the pack, unless it’s with me or my mate. I am to give you my blood. You will share my lifespan. It will bind you to me as a servant. It may also give you the ability to have a mate.” He said, biting his wrist.
“…. If I take that… the other hunters will know, and I can never go back…” She said staring at his arm.
“But do you Really want to?” He asked holding my hand.
She looked at his arm a long time, and she drank. I heard about 5 gulps before she almost fell to the floor. We both reached for her at the same time.
“She smells like an Omega already.” I said, looking at John hold her like a child. Her hair turned the same color as John’s, but she was still human. Sparkle hadn’t said anything up until this point. Now she growled, and John chuckled.
“Easy there tiger.” He chuckled a little harder when she tried taking over.
I do not like this girl. Why is my mate not holding us this way? She snarled, linking our mate. I laughed with John and she huffed. She stomped her feet in my mind, until John set her down and kissed me on the cheek. He picked me up, and kissed me on the lips tenderly.
“Now I have you to myself.” He said with an evil giggle. Sparkle was calmed by his actions. She didn’t like him touching other females, even though he was just trying to help her.
“Oh no!” I giggled when he kissed me on the neck. It sent tingles down my body, and I couldn’t help but enjoy it. He growled deep within his chest, and I didn’t know what he said, but I hugged him around his neck regardless. He grumbled, kissing me on the top of the head.
“I don’t know what to do with you, little rabbit. Should I eat you up, or let you have a running start?” He snarled, tickling me again by kissing me on the neck. I moaned a little, and he chuckled, kissing me hungrily. He trailed down to my mark, causing me to gasp loudly. I didn’t expect the tingles from it to be so… intense. I was starting to heat up, and he sniffed the air.
There was a knock at the door, and he let out a huff. He didn’t want to put me down, so he carried me to the door, and unlocked it. It was Beta Isaac with flowers and a smile. “Alpha wanted to let you know that you both are to report to the packhouse tomorrow. You both will be assessed on your leadership abilities and current knowledge.” He chuckled, and I took the flowers. It looked to be a large variety of lilies and sunflowers, as well as blue hydrangeas.
“He asked you to cock block me, didn’t he?” John asked with a raised eyebrow and I blushed!
“John!!!” I screamed and they both had a hard laugh.
“No, but I’m glad I didn’t wait to come over.” He snickered.
