Book 2 Chapter 49

Heidi
“I figured she was a sour apple from the start…. but what hurts me is that Xavier tried to help her escape… you almost killed Warrior Oswald for that pup.” Alpha glared.
“You would have done this if it was John!” He yelled, but Alpha slapped him with his claws out. He spat blood, but said nothing more. I didn’t know if I should have said something…. But I couldn’t find anything to say that would defuse the situation.
“I did no such thing for my firstborn. I would not do it for my second, nor would I expect Any leniency if I became corrupt.” He sneered. “I love my children as much as any father, but I Will Not do Wrong for my pups.”
“Alpha please she is my blood…. I didn’t know she had these things but please… She is my youngest-” he got cut off.
“Your Only.” Snarled Alpha Ron. “One who has been punished since she lived at CharredMoon, except his highness did not officially document it. He did not want to ruin her life, though I wish he had given me a heads up.” He let his claws come out again, though John stepped in front of him.
“Father in your anger you will regret killing a friend, maybe wait a few days when your mind is clearer. He said putting a hand on Alpha’s shoulder.
“Kneel.” Alpha Ron commanded them both. They both fell to the floor because of their wolves.
“Father I think you’re being rash.” Said John, but Ron glared at him hard enough to force him to submit.
“Son, I know what I do. I have already called his brother, and he is more than happy to come himself to slit his throat. Above all, Shadows Must be loyal to whom they serve. He has broken their laws, so he would probably die no matter where he went…”
“John, I knew what I was getting myself into… I am why she is like this. Time and time again, even now, she has done a thing she Should Not do, and I save her. My only request is that you allow her to live sir. It was an Honor to serve the Crown, it really was.” He bowed his head, and John stood in front of his father to stop him.
“Son, move.” Ron growled. They looked like they were about to fight since John wasn’t backing down, and I Had to do something! I mustered up my courage, and I cleaned my throat. They looked at me.
“I agree with John… also they are his charge, so they’re his to punish…” I said shyly, but loud enough for everyone to hear. Alpha Ronitus pursed his lips, glaring at me as his wolf, and he nodded. It made my hair stand up, and I almost regretted saying it.
“You would do this out of anger… I will out of mercy… Allow me to do the sentencing.” He looked sadly at Xavier, and Jesse cried.
“John No! You can’t do that!” She cried, but John looked at her with a bit of anger.
“I have to.... You’ve put me in a position that I never even imagined would Ever happen, but you couldn’t just leave well enough alone… He kneels here because of YOU! All everyone has ever done was save you from the shit you conjure up!”
“I didn’t even know she had something so dangerous…. I thought I was doing what any parent would do…. protect their child… Do you even realize what would have happened if you used that key? That Thing down there would have killed you, and everyone in the pack until Alpha stopped it.” He looked at his hands, “I accept my fate.”
“Then kill me instead, do whatever, just leave dad out of this!” she screamed in shame, but Aemi spoke. She had been so quiet I forgot she was there…
“Stop Talking. Send them both to the cells. John will decide their fate at dawn… as Heidi is right.” She snarled, but Alpha agreed with her.
They were dragged away, but Xavier went peacefully putting up no fight. “What a mess…” Said Alpha Ronitus, sitting down and putting his hand to his forehead.
“I’d say I couldn’t believe what’s happening… but it’s Jesse. Of Course she would do something like this. What am I gonna tell mom- I mean Hanna?” Asked John, looking nervously at his mother. She growled low.
“The truth.” She said flatly, before she motioned for me to sit. “This now opens up Heidi to unseen threats. Unknown neigh sayers who dislike a girl they do not know…. and what will my King do? I must tell him this…. He will want heads and there are none left to spare.” She mumbled.
The air was still thick, but everyone calmed down slowly. Xavier was one of Ron’s trusted friends… close enough that he entrusted his son to him. John was his adopted son, so it would hurt either of them to do anything to him… but he broke the law trying to save her. He also broke his oath…. “Is it possible to give Xavier a lighter sentence?” I asked.
“I’ll handle it tomorrow.” Mumbled John.
“One broke his covenant with the crown to save his pup… and the child whose mind was clouded enough to be a complete fool, attempted to destroy the pack because she could no longer live in luxury...” Alpha mumbled.
“Then… father was she doing this of her right mind?” he asked.
“Yes. …. It’s akin to trying to argue that you did something because you were drunk. The Beast Prince is the weakest of them, but still a force of nature. He brings out the worst in people, though it is your choice. He cannot manipulate directly, his only power is ‘to make men beasts’. He brings out the worst in us, especially mortals. More savage than any creature that lurks in the dark is someone with power, letting their fears and hatred run wild.” He said flatly.
John growled. “So she knew and did it anyway.”
“Exactly. She saw my office was always unlocked, and she rummaged in my things. She had to have been doing that since her transfer, because this key was hidden. It’s hard to keep it close because it does influence people… it feeds off the negativity in one’s heart. Having it in here instead of a two-inch-thick led box was the best option.” Said Alpha, but Luna growled softly.
“Yes… and we will be punished for our negligence. We left the doors unlocked, never thinking that someone within our pack would be so careless…. And selfish.” She grumbled.
“No, I will take the brunt of this Aemi. You warned me…and I knew better.” He mumbled, going to her and rubbing her back. “He would not punish you anyway.”
“…The key isn’t just the key, is it? It’s also like a magic dimensional door.” I asked and he nodded.
“He’s in his own prison dimension in there. He sleeps under the sun and stars with magical stone golem attendants.” Said Luna, and John looked stern.
“If you’ll excuse me… I would like to take my mate home.” He grumbled, and we were dismissed.
We walked home while I carried my broom, but Garnet stayed in the packhouse. I don’t know what he wanted to talk about, but when we got home, Ann was in the living room, playing Destiny 3. She had gotten a TexBox, and a headset. I didn’t want to disturb her… she was having fun with Uncle Connor.
“Guys! You look so glum!” She yelled, taking off her headset.
“… I have to sentence Jesse tomorrow… and Xavier. I’m going to take a shower…” Said John quietly, and she stiffened a little.
“She blames me that she got in trouble, but she knew before she got here that things would be different. She kind of almost destroyed the pack.” I said quietly… I didn’t like that she was talking about me behind my back, but I didn’t want her to go to such an extreme either… She could have destroyed the pack.
“…and as bad as it sounds, I kind of knew this would happen. She reminds me of the petty girls I used to deal with in high school… I feel bad for Xavier though, he doesn’t deserve it.” She mumbled, but now I wouldn’t let her be upset. I put a tea kettle on the stove and sat next to her.
“She’s no different than the witches in my old coven, so I’m not surprised either. John’s taking it hard, but I don’t want you upset too… Come on, let’s have some hot cocoa. I like to add a little coffee with mine, so it isn’t so sweet.” I said trying to sound cheery like mom does.
“Honestly I’m more worried that good people might get punished with her, but I trust John will do what’s fair.” We sat at the table in the kitchen, while John took a shower. He put my broom away for me, and my small rat pulled on my shirt.
“I think he wants some.” Said Ann, and I found him a small piece of ham and a cookie crumb while I rummaged around. I found an old Koke bottle top to pour him some, and he drank with both his small hand-like paws.
“There Rahrraam…. I think…. I think you could be my familiar. You aren’t a demon or powerful elemental… but you’re more than helpful enough.” I thought aloud, but he jumped, putting his paws on my shirt.
“How do you do it?” Asked Garnet, coming into the house with blood on his white shirt…. I tried ignoring it, and answered his question.
“Well I ask him and if he agrees we shake in blood. Originally, I would have had my coven help me summon the most powerful creature my magic could muster, and I would form a contract…” I drew a little circle with my finger and he hopped in.
“Looks like he’s ready.” He mentioned, and I took a deep breath.
“Do you, Rahrraam, wish to be my familiar? To protect me, and I you, in life and death, carrying my soul to… my patron. For I am His, and you will be too…” He nodded, holding out his paw. It looked like he was trying to say something, however all I could see were his small whiskers moving. “Then let us be bound by word and blood…” I said hesitating, but nicking my finger with my fangs, and he did the same. We shook hands, and he glowed a deep red.
Finally. He squeaked, though I could understand him. I thought I would remain mute until the end of days… now until our master calls, shall we dance in the flames of torment. I will stomp their skulls into the ground, and adorn you with their bones as ornaments for your robes. Said Rahrraam, he sounded powerful… He probably was, because my patron gave him to me directly… this must have been who he wanted to protect me.
