Chapter 73
Kaiden
I had Caleb in my arms while I typed on my desktop. He was 6 weeks old now, and was a good lil boy, He had his mother’s eyes, and my jet black hair. I could already see small flashes of red every once in a while, meaning that he had a wolf like mine already in development.
He was a strong pup, already the size of his sister, but she was small because I think babygirl was short. Red eyed wolves are never small, so she would be fine, just tiny as her human form. I laughed at the idea of a tiny angry little girl that could get as big as Rakaam when angry. He stirred in his sleep for a moment and I rocked him. Grandfather and gram-gram would be leaving in 2 more days, and this was maybe my third time holding him.
Heidi sat on a pillow on the floor next to me, reading a spellbook I bought her from the supernaturals’ only side of Arrowzon…. We were currently hiding from my grandmother, who would steal them away for most likely forever. She already took my mate and Izzy, I was doing all I could. “It’s just you and me, and your big sis now lil’ man” I chuckled. He was asleep, oblivious to how much love that woman had. Grandfather came in, closed the door, and sat in my Luna’s chair.
“Do not tell Gwyneth I am here.” He stated firmly, getting on the computer, logging into his Kingly duties. Eric had taught him how to use the systems gram-gram used to run the kingdom, and he enjoyed reading the emails to pass time. We both nodded.
She stopped reading and looked up at me. “Big sis?” She questioned. She looked worried.
“As far as I’m concerned, you’re my pup too, but you don’t have to call me dad if that makes you feel weird.” I chuckle, going back to my work. She didn’t say anything, but I could hear her little mind race about being accepted. I saw a few tears land on her book, but she wiped the rest away, pretending she wasn’t moved by my nonchalant comment. Grandmother already said she was taking her with them when they left, but that wouldn’t stop me from giving this kid some much needed functional family time. I sighed, looking back at my screen.
It was the first of the month, and Assistant Delta just sent me the reports for the old CrimsonMoon territory late. I was trying to make sure that they got paid on time, even if it meant I would have to go into my personal account, and pay myself back later. I pecked away, and got an Omega to run the originals to town before the office closed. “They wanted the originals”, I mocked, air quoting with my free hand after I handed them to him.
He took a double take seeing my bigger, but older and more battle scarred, identical copy reading with a cup of water and a slab of venison. Everyone knew the King was here, but it still surprised people to see him. He almost tripped over my new wolf rug. Mr. Cobbler’s grey-colored pelt looked nice in the middle of the floor. That was grandfather’s doing, punishment for what he had done to all the prisoners in solitary.
SLAM! “Oh my lady! Don’t tell her I’m in here!” Squealed Connor, holding Jason, and setting him down so he could walk. He went to grandfather, who picked him up and put him on his knee.
“You as well?” He said flatly.
“Gram-gram’s cooking again.” He shuttered, picking up my now awake Caleb for me so I could use both my hands now. “I’m starting to get rolls!” he complained, pinching the jellyrolls on his sides… we were getting dad bods…my abs could no longer be seen, nor any male living in the packhouse, save the King… I didn’t say anything, it would go away in a few weeks of patrolling. “Grandfather how do you manage?!” He questioned.
“I do not eat human food, little one.” He said flatly. He was only the wolf; I would imagine so. “But that does not stop her. She will feed you until you want to vomit.” He said sternly, looking at the door.
I smelled fear; babygirl had Izzy in her arms, and slammed the door.
“Eclipse where did you go? I can smell you, you know dear.” I heard her yell from downstairs. Everyone was silent. Jason and Izzy were both in grandfather’s lap, playing with each other. Babygirl hid behind me.
“Kaiden help!” she whispered, her long frizzy hair was in an elaborate braid, all smoothed out.
“I just want to do your nails little sweety, I can’t find Marcy or Shelly.” She pouted, coming up the stairs.
/No!/ growled Rakaam. Last time she caught me, she braided my hair and I had to sit in submission for an hour.
Grandfather took a deep breath, and closed his eyes. “I will go.” He said in a kingly manor. He put the children down, and left out the door, closing it. They were right outside my office. /Thank you!/ I linked.
“My mate, the pups are weary of us,” I heard him say. I could hear soft growls. They were kissing. I wanted to puke.
My king, I have too much love to give, please just let me have this. We will leave Sunday, and I won’t see them for years, maybe decades.” She sounded like she was going to cry, and I felt like shit.
“Then we will come every year if it will keep tears from your eyes my mate. I do not wish to see you unhappy.” She sniffled, he was most likely hugging her, and she balled into him. I got up; it was just two more days. I could do that if it made her happy. I never realized until she said it how much this means to her. Connor sighed and followed me.
“Gram-Gram you can braid my hair if you want.” Said Connor, who’s hair was about to the lower middle of his back. He hugged gram-gram, and grandfather. I joined in too.
“Gram-Gram do you have any leftovers left?” I asked, still somewhat full.
“My favorite color is green.” Said babygirl, holding Caleb.
“I thought you all were tired of me…” she sniffled. I could feel her sorrow.
“No gram-gram you’re just really intense.” Said Heidi, holding Izzy and Jason’s hand.
She perked up, and wiped her tears. We had family time for their last two days. Everyone pitched in, even the warriors. There wasn’t an unbraided head or unstuffed stomach by the end of their stay in the packhouse. Derrick and his mother even came over to pitch in. She healed his mother’s soul like everyone else that she came in contact with.
With her happy, and my mate with our pups, I shifted for patrol, and grandfather came with me. He was twice my size, and his aura changed completely. You could quite literally see the black wisps of dominance come off him in the form of hot ash. I had never seen his wolf before until this moment, and I was impressed. His eyes glowed like flames, and cast shadows, I wasn’t my true strength… there was no need for that level of overkill.
/I have not been my true self in a year, little one. I fear I may not change back for some time./ He linked me amused. He told a joke?! I was dumbfounded. I was greeted by my brother and sister, who were only the slightest smaller than me. We were nearly equals, and I wondered why they stayed with me, when their titles could be of a higher rank.
Grandmother stayed behind to help those in need of healing. Anyone who lost a mate, anyone who was rejected, anyone who was new or afraid all got to feel her power. I got to spend time with my mate and pups, but I regretted that they were leaving so soon. It meant that I would slowly start having to fight again. It meant that Rogues would no longer sense the King. I sighed.

Grandmother got the keys off the key rack, and went to pull the car around. I would miss gram-gram, and even that stuffy bastard. “I heard that.” He said flatly, holding Caleb, surrounded by 12 one year olds who followed him, each wanting a turn.
He handed Eclipse our pup, and got all their bags in one hand. He put them in the trunk, and Heidi sat in the backseat. She would return when she became of age, as she is still my pack member, and unofficial adopted pup. I hated to see her go, but it was probably best. She would be around someone who could teach her how to use her powers and have control. She would definitely be loved, and she could video call us anytime.
