Chapter 63
Eclipse
I was downstairs, with Alpha Phillip and Luna Susana. He was cooking lunch for us. He was making grilled cheese with the option of fresh brewed coffee, tea, or juice. There was fruit on the table, and I sat with his mate, talking about our adventures.
“I’m sorry to hear that you were presented to the king without the blessing of the Lady, little Luna.” She said with a sad smile.
“I bet that was Brutus and Jang’s doing.” Grumbled Phillip, flipping the toasted sandwich in the nonstick pan.
He slid the food on plates, and served us first opting to eat raw beef. I noticed when he ate, his food looked almost frozen. I saw frosted breath come out his mouth, and it made Shimmer alert. The hair on the back of my neck stood up, but he didn’t seem dangerous.
/Oh, Now you’re scared? We literally slept here! Like THREE doors from them!/ I smirked at her.
He chuckled. “That your wolf only recently noticed my power, means that I hide it well enough.” He drank some wine. “Oh and forgive my prying. After you reach a certain age, it’s passively done.”
“I’m kind of used to it.” I smiled and drank my tea, and it seemed to settle Shimmer. It was hot with cream and sugar.
He hummed in contentment, but his eyes flashed white for a second. His attention went to the stairs.
I heard someone come down them. It was Kaiden, but something about him seemed a little off. He was dressed in a nice white t-shirt, and khaki slacks. His hair was tied up with my blue scrunchie, but it seemed longer than yesterday, almost to his hips. His eyes almost had a glow to them, but his face was calm.
“Afternoon.” He said with a smile. It was not returned.
“You should go home. I can tell you cannot control your nature.” Growled Phillip. Alpha yawned, and threw up his clawed hands, wiggling his fingers.
“That’s my intention.” He said, showing his fangs with a grin. I felt the hair on my neck stand, and goosebumps form. I could feel the hostility rise in the air from Philip, and I could understand it. Alpha was a threat, and it didn’t help that he walked slowly to me, and kissed me on the forehead. They shared links, not sharing what they had to say to each other out loud…
“I will not repeat myself Prince Kaiden, Stand down.” He growled, shaking the windows, and pulled his mate’s chair closer to him. Both me and his mate shared concerned looks, though neither of us moved. We were both paralyzed in fear, but there was also more to this. We were the source of the danger, and if either Alpha thought we were going to get hurt, it would start a fight.
Both had begun to challenge.
“Would you believe me if I told you that I’ve been trying?” He growled with equal ferocity, and gently took my hand leading me to the door, but not turning his back to the other Alpha. This was a direct disrespect to not show his neck. Phillip stood up, his eyes were white, and Kaiden’s eyes turned into that of his wolf.
We left out the door and Kaiden took a deep breath. Then another. He closed his eyes tight, scrunched his eyebrows, and his eyes were amber yellow when he opened them. “…fuck” he growled.
After that, we got to the car from the now being cleaned fairgrounds. The ride was silent…, and I was still trying to calm down. /What WAS that?/ I tried to mind link Alpha, but there was no response. He just breathed heavily, his eyes flashing between red and fiery gold.
“It’s nothing babygirl.” He said with a small growl, but there was venom to it.
It felt like I was being warned to drop it. It felt like I was being told to stand down. Shimmer whined in the back of my head, and I shifted in my seat, attempting to make myself as scarce as possible. He let out an annoyed grunt, but didn’t say anything. I flinched when he stroked my hair, not looking from the road. He felt like a stranger. He smelled like danger.
The silence from his actions were louder than any words that could have been shared. He drove while I sat silently in the strange atmosphere he had created. It was as if he were his wolf, but I knew that wasn’t the case. Rakaam can’t drive…. But his eyes flashed from amber to crimson the entire way as if he were fighting his wolf… But Why? That Had to be why Phillip was so upset…. Eye flashing, especially unprovoked was a challenge…. But I didn’t understand why he’d done that either… In the meantime, I listened to the radio. It passed the time….
-------
It had gotten late, and the tank was on E. We had been driving the whole day, and it was late, but that meant we were close to the pack. And surely enough, I smelled wolves. He pulled over off the highway, and stopped to get gas. His claws came out the moment he got out the car and he paid at the pump with his card. I could feel him slowly smelling like rage, though there was no reason for it.
We got back on the road, and crossed the pack line. I could hear howling of the warriors, they knew we were home, and I had never been so happy to see the familiar forest before in my life. He rolled down the window and let out a deep howl in response. “Babygirl, when I pull into the garage, don’t get out the car until I leave.” He grunted. I nodded. We pulled into the garage, and I stayed inside like he’d asked.
Kaiden smelled uncontrollably bloodthirsty, but there was no reason; he just seemed to snap. I had never seen him like this before. His eyes weren’t red this time, they were like fire. There were no more whites to his eyes. I could only watch in terror as he changed into his wolf the moment he got out the car.
He was bigger than I remember ever seeing him, by at least a few feet, and he rose slowly on his paws, standing facing me, the car suddenly feeling too small. He smelled like the King. His imposing body towered over me, sending me into a state of terror, unable to avert my gaze. He looked like a King, and I knew this was brought about from our visit.
He let out a roar that the pack could probably hear even at the border. The inside of his mouth, even his teeth, were black… but a bright orange glow in the back of his throat lit the darkness of the garage. Cindered specks and black ashes came off his breath as he bared his fangs…. His golden eyes were wild, darting violently to the direction of the forest after locking eyes with me for only a moment.
He rushed past me, making the air swish, and the car shake. The garage door was destroyed instantly. He had run out into the almost moonless night, stopping at the front of the packhouse, and roared a second deathly rumble that shook the windows. Beta Connor ran to the car and yanked me out. He didn’t wait to take off his clothes, he changed instantly and ran after his brother.
/Come on!/ He linked me.
I stood there dumbfounded, unable to comprehend what I just saw, he was agitated the rest of the drive home, but he wasn’t like this. Shimmer receded to the back of my mind like the day I met Alpha, and I couldn’t move.
I got shook abruptly on the shoulder by a strong female. It was Gamma Branson. “Stop drooling and help us cage him!” She yelled at me.
/ Cage him?!/ I thought, and as if reading my mind, she sighed.
“It’s rare he gets like this, but when he does, we lore him into a prison cell. I already called Horizon to have the first floor cleared of inmates, you’ll be the bait.” She took off her clothes and shifted, then nudged me.
“BAIT?” I Squeal, and she nodded her massive dark brown, almost black head. She was almost as massive as Alpha, but I could see in her red eyes, that she was calm. She had complete control of her wolf, and she stood there, so I could shift.
She waited for me, and we ran into the forest, looking at the carnage in his wake. Deep claw marks were on the trees, they seemed to have a slight smoke smell to them when we ran past. A poor deer was ripped in half, its blood leaving a distinct trail in the darkness, and its body thrown far enough apart you could barely find the halves, and the ends look like they were thrown into a fire. The smell of burned flesh filled the night, along with a bloodcurdling scream of a wolf in the distance.
[It’s so hard to control our wolves, but especially for Kaiden… Rakaam’s pretty much a copy of father’s wolf, and just as strong at such a young age. So, the only thing we can do, is try to contain him. Being near the ancients is almost like a drug, their power seeps into the soul, and can desynchronize him and his wolf since Kaiden never really learned control…. It must have been so hard to contain himself the whole way home.] She ran faster and I tried to keep up.
I followed Gamma Branson, but it seemed like we weren’t following the deathly snarls of Alpha and Beta. We were headed almost the opposite direction, and then I smelled it. Human, strange wolves, and cleaner. I knew where we were going, and I still didn’t like it. I saw Horizon for the first time. It was imposing, with a small fence surrounding it, nothing like I would expect. In shows, the same prisons would have massive guard towers and guns pointed at the ready, but the fence was open, and everyone seemed really relaxed, if not for a rampaging Alpha.
/I want you to howl as loud as you can Eclipse, you are his Luna, he will come./ She mind linked me. I gulped, Shimmer was gone, and it was just me, and I had to confront Alpha as he was in this moment, a true monster.
The white, well-lit halls were empty, even the reception desk. It was just me and Gamma Branson in the hall. She changed back, and grabbed 2 dresses and some men’s shorts, giving them to me for Kaiden to hold in my mouth. They were both just light green pull overs so that we were covered. We walked past a few cells after that to the middle of the hall and she looked at me, and patted my head, obviously smelling my terror.
“You are his mate; he won’t hurt you.” She said sweetly, “I will be in the other cell with the keys, so just calm down worry wart.” She said with a smile.
I nodded back… and I went into the cell. I put the dress and the shorts on the bed and looked at Gamma one last time. Gamma Branson locked herself in a cell, and slipped on her dress.
And I howled at the top of my lungs, standing in a cell, waiting for Alpha.
