Chapter 83

Connor
Honestly I was excited; I get to kick the ass of a cocky know it all. I yanked my clothes off and went into my room in my boxers, it was a good thing my mate didn’t see me like this, because Nancy wouldn’t have let me leave the bedroom. I chuckled, finding a pair of jeans, my combat boots, and my mate’s scrunchie that she let me have. It was a red ribbon, and I wanted her to braid my hair. No one else could touch it, not even my sister. It was tradition. I didn’t take that stuff seriously, however I would honor them.
I found her downstairs, and she saw me, and looked worried. The pack members downstairs did as well, because as Beta, I usually didn’t do turf fights. That I was getting my hair braided, and that I was dressed for war meant that their leader was ill in bed, not asleep. “Connor please be safe, I don’t like the idea of you fighting Alphas.” She said quietly, putting the ribbon in a cute bow.
I kissed her on the lips, not caring that everyone was there to see. “Baby I’ll be back by 5.” I tell her, and with that, I slung one of my brother’s hoodies over my shoulder, and grabbed the keys to my black truck. I never used it, because I honestly liked running, but today was the rare day where I would leave the territory. All I could do was hope that he was still asleep while I was gone.
I sighed and started driving. The council location was about an hour drive, and I listened to human radio not really paying attention. I had wanted a piece of this guy since Kaiden told me about this asshat. Some Alphas are just drunk with power, and the pack suffers.
I parked; the plain brick building stood out like a sore thumb in the forest. It was in the middle of nowhere, and labeled. ‘Bison Private Industrial’. I checked in with the front desk, and walked up the stairs to where the councils met. They were already waiting for me, and briefed me on the rules. I wasn’t paying attention; my wolf was too busy trying to find Frank to fight.
It would be funny if not for him pretty much giving me a migraine. They led me up the stairs to a room that was soundproofed called the Red Room. The moment I went through the door, I could understand. The room looked clean, if not for the smell of blood.
Frank was already in there. He looked about 35ish, stocky, shorter than me by a few inches, but didn’t look like he missed any leg days. He was pretty big, his hair was shaved on the sides except for a long grey braid that ended to black in the middle of his back. His orange eyes were already lit up with his wolf, and he was already circling the room. “You will not take what is mine, Beta.” He spat, as if my rank had anything to do with my strength.
“You boast, weak Alpha, you have as of yet to dominate me.” I spat in response. I let my eyes go red. Though I would not let Titus have his way. If I did, I would probably shift, and kill him.
He growled, and lunged at me, throwing a punch, missing me by a mile. He was easy to anger, and had no style. Years of sparring with Kaiden made this easier than it should have been. I connected a good punch in the gut, and he punched me in the throat.
I coughed, and he didn’t hesitate, clawing me in the side of the face. I reacted, blindly clawing his bare chest, much deeper than he had got me. Of all the fucking things to do, he had to pull a bitch move like this. I thought. I struggled to keep Titus in check while we fought. It was hard to see out my right eye, because face cuts always bleed so much more than they should. It had mostly healed, but the trickles still bothered me.
“I think I might kill the bitch first so he can watch. Worthless fuckers.” He cackled, though I didn’t understand why, neither of us had really done anything serious to the other yet, but his statement made me lose it. Titus grabbed him by the throat and threw him against the wall before I could get control back. He got up, shocked, and lunged at me, but I grabbed his clawed hand, and broke it. He screamed, and I didn’t even need to use my true power.
I continued to squeeze it. “Kneel.” I said coldly.
“Never.” He hissed. I squeezed a little harder, making him get on his knees.
“Yield.” I said calmly, letting my true presence be known, but not using it. It impressed some of the council.
“Nev-shit whatever let me go.” He hissed, writhing to try and get out of my grip. I continued to squeeze, I wanted to hear him beg. Beg like he wanted those weak wolves to, to bend to the will of a strong Alpha drunk off his own power.
“Ok, Ok that sounds like a yield to me.” Said Advisor Alpha Phillip. I saw his breath. The hair on the back of my neck stood up, and I let go of Frank without thinking. He scrambled out the room, past the councilman.
Phillips’s cold glare could freeze water. He was monstrous. He looked like he should be on the High Council with the King, but I’m sure he had his reasons.
I shook wrists with the head councilman Harris, and he handed me the papers for Elliot and his mate. There was a certain pride that was in my chest. I was not Alpha, but I did protect the weak. I deserved the JFC I bought, and shamelessly ate my fried chicken combo. I hadn’t had fast food in a while, and I waited for them to make it fresh.
I hummed the little tune from the Pale lady, smelling the scent of wolves. I was even jamming to the radio, listening to Cardi A. I was in a good mood, also I was ignoring my wolf who was riding the high of victory. I didn’t need that negativity in my life, I needed treats for a job well done. I parked into the packhouse, blasting music none would approve of and walked through the door with the new pack paperwork.
It was calm if not for Shelly’s blood in the air. I ran up the stairs, and found her with a slash on her arm. It looked like a large wolf had clawed her to the bone. “Bryson the Beast escaped.” She almost whispered, defeated.
“Fuck.” I growled. “Shelly this isn’t your fault; only me and Kaiden can handle a male with the title of Beast.” I tell her grabbing her arm gently and looking at the damage. It was dangerously deep, and much too jagged for stitches, but would heal without help, so long as she could stop the bleeding. “You need to go to the infirmary.” I said under my breath.
I could bet money that she instinctually ran here….. It was only one swipe by the looks of it…. And so much damage came from it…
“Me and the Warriors tried stopping him like usual, but he was too strong. It was like he had been exercising since the last time we all subdued him.” She winced in pain after I put some wound spray on her arm. “I don’t know if he’s going to come back and try something Connor. We need Alpha; I’m not letting you fight him alone.” She said looking me in the eyes, deathly serious.
“I have to at least do patrol Shells, I’m standing Alpha….” I grunt in frustration. I did not want to get into another fight after I just got from one… also I was full. I had planned on taking a nap, and doing everything else later. It was already 6, most offices were closed already anyway.
I went downstairs and shifted, roaring deathly rumbles of warning. It was responded by Bryson in the distance, with the same level of energy, meaning that he wasn’t in the territory but would fight me if encountered. I figured, that I should at least talk to the guy. I followed his scent, but I also let out a howl of neutrality.
He responded with one of rage. I didn’t have time to think, because he was right there, stronger smelling than the last time we met. Children of Rage are strong by nature, ancient blood rules applied to them, though there are no records of them getting mates and having pups or anything.
/I will die before I am defeated again./ He growled in a mind link, his black eyes giving off pure aggression, lunging at me.
[That was Not what I came for!] I growl back in wolf, each of us dodging the other’s attacks, we were pretty even, which puzzled me, last time he was miles beyond my reach alone…. It was as if he’d grown in size with this new strength…
[What then?] He stopped trying to bite me, and both of us retreated from each other.
[I was just going to say thank you for not killing my sister. I could tell you were trying to escape with that wound on her arm… also don’t come back. I don’t want to fight you, but I will to protect my mate, pack, and pups.]
He stood there for a while, looking at me. I couldn’t read his face, but he just ran off. /Do not follow me./ He linked. I didn’t say anything, I just went back to the territory.
