Chapter 29
Kaiden
He said nothing, because I was right. As it was, only a few people knew my title, though as one of them he should have known better than to make such a fuss in the first place.
“His true mate is a citizen of my territory. By Law they cannot be separated, as I will not give her without willingness to do so.” I said calmly, though he had begun to lose his temper.
“They are a pair, and I wish to have my grandpup.” He growled finally letting his wolf out.
“On what grounds other than he is your blood? That meant nothing when your eldest changed his name and moved to Uteh. Will you take his pups from their mother’s teat to train them to be strong enough to defeat me? Because you cannot. Or is it that you wish me to bend the knee to you, knowing it should be the other way around?” My eyes flashed red. This color only existed in wolves of old blood and high power. It was all I needed to do to have him back down, but my wolf wanted blood.
/Kaiden you will Stop this and let me have him./ Roared Rakaam. I would if I had to, but as it stood, we only shared words. There was also the fact that in this monkey suit I would Have to behave since I’d get pulled over for nudity on the way home if I shifted, ripping this thin fabric apart. I almost felt as if I were being strangled in that tie.
“I do not wish my blood for you to bend the knee, I wish him because he is the last of my oldest son… He left long before you were born and made little contact with me since… When I heard he was dead, I knew it was my fault. Had I not pushed him so hard as a boy five centuries ago, he would still be alive, and be my Beta….” He said honestly, but in my heart I knew he only said that for sympathy. That wasn’t the man he was.
I knew who he was, and he wasn’t noble. He was the kind of Alpha who thought Might was Right, suffocating any who were weak under his proverbial boot.
“You wish to test me, to challenge me, and I have given you mercy twice now. Once in my home, and now in this room-” He cut me off.
“I removed myself from killing you because of your Luna.” He sneered.
I snarled. I didn’t want anyone to know of her yet so she could get used to me and her position…
“That is Irrelevant. Unless you wish to fight me upstairs like a man instead of whimpering behind the council like a pup.” I said glaring at him, and he submitted in front of everyone. I didn’t want to humiliate him like that, but he was out his place. “If what you say is true or not, it doesn’t matter. Heartfelt sentiments hold no candle to the Laws made. And more importantly, moving the boy isn’t best for his healing. He is also disabled, and last time I checked you only reward Warriors who show unnecessary brutality. If you loved him like you say you do, you would have left well enough alone and waited a century or two for him to be mended.” I said firmly.
There was a silence on seeing him look at the table like that, being almost old enough to apply for a council position himself. It made many second question me as a wolf if I could make someone like him submit, and that satisfied Rakaam.
“We shall come to a vote.” Said the Head Councilman.
They all would either raise their right hand for me since I was on the right of the table, or the left. About half were in favor of me, but the tie breaker was Alpha Opal.
“The issue of blood is important; however, the council feels as though he will be in his mate’s care best. It is the Highest Law Honored. Above all, we Cannot question our very goddess that made us. Possibly if he is allowed to heal, he may transfer to your pack Alpha Crimson, however, your request is again denied.” Said the Head Councilman, and Wade pounded his fist with a snarl, however he could not undo the council’s ruling.
Ironic that he was older than me by Many centuries, yet he acted like a spoiled pup.
“But has mentioned an additional issue.” Said a Councilman. “Alpha Kaiden, I didn’t know you had your mate, yet that was brought to our attention by Alpha Wade. You bare no mark that I see, nor smell mated.” He said scratching his chin, It was custom to come casual in a t-shirt and slacks to present your mark, and present your Luna via Zoomi or video call, however I wanted her to have time.
“I have marked her, but not mated, as we have just met.” I said sternly glaring at Wade.
“What is her name, former pack residence, former wolf rank, and color?” He asked.
“Eclipse Baxter, now Eclipse Charred, CharredMoon, Kappa, dark gray and silver” I said hearing murmurs. It was the first time I’d lost my shit, and Wade couldn’t grin wide enough.
She wasn’t ready. Shit….
She had no formal training. She was small…. Weak… Rakaam growled, but he knew I was right. It was rare a Luna isn’t at Least Warrior strength…. Oftentimes a former Warrior if not related to a high ranked wolf. In the event of Omega mates, or in her case one rank above, Kappa, she should have been rejected. It isn’t fair to the pack the decision I made, but I’d waited 200 years, and I would not reject what the Lady gave me. Everyone at the table knew this. To wait that long only to receive a low, almost no ranked female, one who isn’t trained in pack duties, was seen almost as an additional punishment to others.
But I didn’t care. I didn’t care that I was technically never actually meant to mate this woman. I likely would have been paired with someone else because she wasn’t born yet, and I wouldn’t have been cursed. Doing what I did Changed fate for others. Wolves that hadn’t yet found their loved one that night never would, and for it I was punished. I changed fate when I killed on the Harvest… but I barely even remember it.
“Ah, then present her soon.” He said adjusting the files on his table while writing in mine.
The meeting when at a snail’s pace after that, until it was finally over. I didn’t care about anything anyone else had to say. All I was worried about was that now I had to present her, but as she was, I Know she would fail. I drove home, but she would be up by the time I got there.
I hadn’t completed the ceremony yet, so she was also open to challenge. Should they deem her unworthy, or should another she wolf challenge for the rank of Luna, even as my true mate she Could still be Technically challenged…. But I couldn’t Rush this. I couldn’t just take her to my room and lay her across the bed like I wanted. She still hasn’t adjusted to even the idea of me being so much stronger than her. She senses that. It’s her literal instincts that she fights. I was of the oldest line of purebloods descended from the First Wolf.
She descended from no one special, just a Warrior….From her records, I knew her adopted parents, her paternal uncle and aunt, were the only ‘family’ she has, and they were Omegas.… Nothing was wrong with that in My opinion…, but the council, even this one, saw issue with it.
I Don’t care that the High Council knows nothing about this yet. She’s too young to our bond to even be questioned….. I also expect her to be as fearful as she is. This is natural, as to a wolf her strength, being in the packhouse was a rarity, so much so that I didn’t discover her while she lived under my nose until she was 21, but honestly, I was kind of glad for that. Had I found her sooner, I would have requested her family live in LemonMoon until she was ready to come to me.
And with my lineage, she would have been a target until I marked her. People have been killed for less in the Royal Wolf Court… Each Royal house had spies, assassins and what not…
I could feel my wolf wanting OUT, but his solution to everything is killing….
“This ends our meeting. You may leave.” Was all I heard. I left out, going home.
I know my Luna would be awake when I got there, but I had no intention of forcing her into anything. I still had time. She did as well. Her role was essentially my support, and I could still handle the double role I’d been handling a little bit longer.
My sister, however already looked confrontational when I got home. I pulled into the packhouse garage. She was there, arms crossed, leaned against the door that led into the kitchen. “Alpha, we need to talk.” She said as if I’d be upset with her.
“Speak freely Gamma.” I told her. Just because we were close didn’t mean we shouldn’t be professional. It was something she taught me.
“Then I’ll just say it. I was never one for beating around the bush. She’s so green and timid.” She said looking away from me, her eyes cast down. “She’s sweet, and Lady knows we need someone like her to tame you, but when are you going to give her to me?” She asked, referring to formal Luna training.
“Give me some time….” I said trailing off.
“She will know eventually Kaiden. As it is, you haven’t had a real handle on Rakaam since January, and I don’t want her to find out the dramatic way of what we are.” She said a little angrily.
“I’ll have to Slowly get around to that. As it is whenever I get close to losing my shit she freaks out. Her instincts fire off and there’s nothing I can Do about it until that runs its course.” I almost growled, but that would alert my mate that I was here, and possibly worry her of my temper.
“Fuck me.” She grumbled. “I know the High Council likely already knows too… and it’ll only be a matter of time before that bites you in the ass.” She said leaving.
“But even if you trained her Every Day for a Year, no Luna would be ready unless they were raised by a Delta or higher.” I said going in with her, but regaining enough calm to do what I needed.
