Book 2 Chapter 36

John
“I motion their pack become annexed with the next closest.” Said the Seventh Seat.
“That area is contaminated as well.” Said my father, reading the file that was passed by the King while sipping coffee. I skimmed what I could over his shoulder. It seemed they were just normal low rank wolves no older than 3,054. Most of them also seemed to be Native shifters… and this was the last of their tribe.
“They should be kept together.” Said the Eighth Seat. And there was agreement, but no one seemed keen on keeping them.
“They are low born, why should we worry of their fate?” Said the Third Seat. I spoke up before I thought.
“Because weak or not they’re still wolves… it’s our job to keep them safe.” I said and there were a few growls. I had no place to speak.
“Well spoken.” Said the Fifth Seat, who’s dull eyes kind of alerted my instincts. I know as an Ancient One, I was immune to whatever that melting was… but it still was a little crazy that someone like this existed.
“You do him a disservice by not keeping him in his place.” Hissed Brutus.
“His place is the Right Seat of the King. I have given him the right to speak, you know this.” He said casually, and there were groans.
“I will not be chastised by a pup.” He growled, standing up, and my father growled, forcing him to sit down.
“You were chastised for your selfishness, and it would be wise to accept his words. He speaks with my voice, but by my hand will I crush you.” His eyes were whisky with his wolf…. and my Lady I had never felt my father’s true presence… but I did now. If I hadn’t gotten the blessing from the Queen, I know I would be puking. It was something I felt under my skin, hell I could taste it. My mouth was dry, but I requested some water by holding my hand in the air a little. Omegas were immune because their wolves held no sway over their body.
“The Third is right, they are a burden. None are strong enough to even be called Warrior… it would be as if we had gained thousands of Omegas.” Said the Sixth Seat, Alpha Jang.
My father sighed. “I will take them, and give the pack to my son. Happy late birthday.”
I blinked stupidly at how absurd that was. I almost spat out my water.
“Father no.” I said immediately without thinking, and there were chuckles, including the King.
“I did not say you would rule then now.” He wiped his eye from the laugh at my expense, and I frowned, looking down at the table.
“Do not tease the boy too much, it is his first day.” Said the King, who now had a glass of water from the same Omega.
“Forgive me, but it was funny. Lady. Nevertheless seriously, does anyone want them then?” He asked and there was a rush of no’s. These wolves were seen as most likely a burden, because even though they would increase the wolf population of their pack, all the resources would be used to now protect a bigger pack. More challenges, more paperwork, but no warrior contribution. I felt bad for them.
“I would, but my territory already has the maximum percentage of wolves before the humans would take notice.” Said the Fifth Seat. He looked kind of tired, but otherwise tried to sound firm. He had a cup of coffee at his side.
“Yes, there are many supernatural creatures within your ranks.” Said the Second Seat, answering for the King. I believe that was also one of his duties.
“If no one else wants them, Ronitus protect these pups. They are not strong, but they may be useful. The water supply can never be used by many supernatural creatures now that silver is in the riverbed. This pack is to be demolished, and native trees planted over the cleaned debris.” Said the king at his normal speaking volume, but it was a command, and it made my wolf submit in my mind.
But at the same time, I know I could smell my mate’s fear, and my wolf had taken over before I could compose myself.
-----Heidi-----
The Queen’s Council was very beautiful, though it was very clear with the colors she picked who was in charge. The other colors may fly in the other parts of the castle, but in here, it was only hers. All the comfortable cushions, curtains, and tables were gold and black. I felt like I was in a grand Victorian ballroom. The Omega women were standing in station positions throughout the room, waiting on anything that we desired. I opted to sit with the Fifth seat… breaking the rule that everyone told me before we got here… but she seemed nice enough.
I chose to sit with Luna Autumn, because of all the wolves there, she seemed the nicest aside from Luna Aemi, and the Queen. Their meeting was over, as they had their rulings on things yesterday, and I wasn’t here. I was also just an Heir, so I didn’t think that they would really care too much if I didn’t attend.
“So how is it like being a turned human? Sorry if it came out offensive… we turned a human friend of mine and I wanted to make sure she’s comfortable…” I asked her. We drank tea in amazingly comfortable throne chairs that were all black and gold on the other side of the room away from the older Lunas. They still spoke of business, though no one minded that she kept me company.
“It doesn’t feel too different aside from my wolf. I can’t shift or anything, but she has snarky comments all the time.” She giggled. “Even now she pouts and tries to debate that.”
“My wolf is very…. Innocent. She enjoys tag and playing with sticks, and she wants nothing more than to play, or be with our mate.” I giggled. She passed me a black stone. I knew instantly that she gave me one spare tourmaline. Heck yes!
She linked me, sipping tea. Don’t go near any of them, don’t get close to them, and don’t Trust them. Only your house. They haven’t done anything to me, but I know if I go even to use the bathroom outside this room, I’m dead.. She was an Omega… at best they see her as the help. At worst, a mortal.
I nodded. These were the wolves who fought the war, they wouldn’t tolerate her here if not for most likely my grandparents.
I’m half witch… I know what you mean. To be honest, scared that they’re going to put holy water in my food or something. I’m not sure if I’m immune but I doubt it. I linked back, holding a neutral face.
I don’t doubt that the Third Seat wouldn’t… Here’s another stone for your mate. She linked and I put them both discreetly in my pocket. It wasn’t that they were illegal, I would just rather them think I was strong enough to block them. I would enchant this later, and ask to see if John’s dog tag was at Lapis or not.
“Oh and you must meet Oliver! We have two covens in our pack, and there are a few half witches born in our pack already.” She beamed.
“Oh, really what covens?” I asked. I kind of didn’t want to know… because they were so mean… plus they would just try and hex me. Witches really looked down on hybrids….
“Emerald in Pinnsylvenia and Ruby in New Apple.” I froze, and I could no longer hold a neutral face….
“Um….ok. I need to go to the bathroom.” I said as casually as I could.
“Oh, I hope I didn’t offend you, as far as I know, most of the witches are still alive. Are they your relatives?” She asked to console me, but she didn’t understand that she’d made it worse. I was talking to someone who could tell that them I was alive.
“No, you didn’t I just need to go freshen up.” I said with a false smile, and I left the Luna’s council room.
“My Luna would you like anything?” Asked an Omega while I walked down the halls half ready to shift. I knew I shouldn’t have talked to her. What was I thinking! I was warned… I was warned and I did it anyway, now they are going to try and use what they know of me to hurt John. They cannot Heidi. Said my wolf. John said-
I know what he said! But then no one with ties to them knew anything… she was only faking being nice… I said almost ready to cry, wondering the halls. I forgot the way to my room, and that made it worse. It had been a while since I walked by myself here, and I was being followed, which made me more upset. I did this to myself. I wished I was with my mate.
I blinked, and I seemed to crash into something hard. I was grabbed by tingling sparks, smelling fresh earth, and I knew it was my mate, but that was impossible. I didn’t want to open my eyes to reveal the error of my mistake…. I had disrespected the council by being here. I had disrespected my mate, and his father by causing disruption.
“Heidi, what’s wrong?” Asked my mate, but there was a pound of a fist that made me jump.
“Little one you disrespect me, but I know it is not without reason.” Said grandfather angrily, and I felt his large hand on the top of my head.
“Sorry.” I whispered, but my mate held a stern gaze at me… I must have made him upset.
“I’ll take her upstairs. Forgive our interruption.” Said John, but there were footsteps, along with a loud gasp.
“Second Heiress wait!” yelled Luna Autumn, and I didn’t move. I held my mate’s neck with a vice gripped hold. I saw visions of what they’d done to me… and I started to lose my composure on controlling my powers.
“No stay away.” I warned her.
“My King what will you do of the disrespect of your house?” Hissed the Third, who was completely irate… I could feel it.
“Nothing. My most fragile pup you disrespect me. Tell me why.” He demanded, but I had no words, only fear.
“…. You’re Heidi Hinds, aren’t you?” she whispered, kneeling at the front of the court. “My mate actually went to save you, but you were already gone. They told us you were dead… I’m sorry they mistreated you, and your highness forgive me for the disruption. This is my fault… but I didn’t know.” She said panting heavily, and John put a hand on my back, but I covered my face by hiding myself in his chest.
“No… I’m Heidi Stone…. My name there was Doggie. I had no last name…” I said, feeling sparks on my shoulder. He was rubbing me to calm me, but it wasn’t working.
“She wolf, what have you done to my mate.” Snarled John, and he was too aggressive. He smelled like an angry Alpha.
“I’m sorry I didn’t know!” She yelled, which made her mate leave the table.
