Chapter 124- The End
Eclipse
It took a week for Kaiden to fully heal… The wounds the Rogue gave him. I Wish I could remember the name of the Rogue who’d done this, But so long as my mate was ok now, it didn’t matter… Originally, the wounds wouldn’t stop bleeding. Then they got infected…. The smallest tap on a stich made them gush, but now that he was alright, this weekend Jerold took the kids to the castle.
Me and Kaiden were having a kind of date night in the pack. it wouldn’t be anything crazy or far away… just something a little different. …
“I got the tent.” He grinned, putting it on an ATV. We were going to camp by the little stream we first met at…. I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t excited. “Babygirl don’t forget your other hoodie.” He said getting it off the coat rack by the door.
I put on the blue hoodie, while Kaiden wore the novelty hoodie Connor got him… it was white with fake blood all over it, and on the back it said ‘I’m Fine’….. a kind of practical joke, but according to my mate, the hoodie was his favorite.
“I got the food.” I said holding the cooler. There were at least 10 pounds of beef in here, herbs, spices, bread, cheese, and wine.
“I got the pack.” Said Connor, standing near Nancy, kissing her on the cheek.
“I’ll be back in the morning.” Said Kaiden.
“I know big brother. You both seem like you Really need this.” Connor linked him something, and there was a smile on my mate’s face…. Until their linking was over.
“You better not.” Kaiden warned.
“I don’t know I Might.” Chuckled Connor.
“Your ATV’s Packed.” Said Shelly. Michelle was gone too, so all of us could have a bit of a break….
Alpha took our food and packed it on top. I got to sit in his lap as we rode down the well-worn path... Seeing the trees during sunset was nice. It was like seeing it for the first time, since the last time I was out here, I only drove past….. The orange glow of the setting sun speckled on the dark evergreen trees, dappling the forest with light. It reminded me of when I was growing up.
I wasn’t athletic, nor did I get out much… but living here, all my memories of childhood were fond.
“…. I kind of remember the days you're talking about…” He gently scratched the stubble on his chin, paying attention to the dirt path that was a little slippery from all the pine needles…. It made him look …. Older.
“Really?” I said looking back at him briefly, and he smiled at my comment.
“I didn't have much of a childhood being an adult before my time, but…. I always remember the pack. The same faces, the bonds we hold… I don’t think anyone here realizes how Small our communities are…. Everybody knows everybody…. I even knew OF you, I’d just never met you.”
I could see his breath as he spoke, because the chill of winter was here. It was so cold that I'm glad I brought my hood and an extra blanket, along with our camping kit. It made riding through the woods in human form a little easier with the slight breeze that was picking up as well.
With it cold out, the first snow of the year was threatening to come any moment, yet even still, I want to have this time with him. We have gone through so much, and we have had so many trials and tribulations, that this would be the relaxation that both of us needed.
Being Luna, having pups, and managing she wolves, and being a judge at my mate’s side was demanding at times. It was also a little demanding to get out of our comfort zone and try to raise our oldest. We knew nothing of what she needed except for the love that I gave with all my heart.
I know there will come a time when she's a woman, and she will no longer need us. However, I would still like them to make frequent visits. It almost hurts to know that in only a few years, our nest will be empty….
“I heard that babygirl.” Said Kaiden kissing me on the top of the head as he steered. “We don’t have Much more time with them, but we do have Some. Let’s just enjoy this small respite.”
His body heat made me feel like I was indoors, “Just… watch the road.” I said blushing.
“We’re here so no.” He grinned.
Indeed, we really were. We were Just in time to see the last of the golden rays come out and dapple light on the small stream. The turtles weren’t anywhere to be seen with it so cold, but there were still little fish in there. I could also see small ice crystals form on the water’s edge, while Kaiden pulled off his hoodie, and used his grip to start the bonfire.
We gathered whatever sticks we could find, and I added rocks around it. I made sure not to use river rocks… since those could still be filled with water. Also…. Admittedly the water was Freezing.
We pitched the tent together. I got the food on a blanket ready, while he got our small tent ready…. I Tried, but admittedly, I never took pup-scout classes…. But I did other things. I cooked. I used a large flat rock as a cutting board, and seasoned the meat well.
I put fresh green sticks in the dirt after putting the meat on there.
“That smells Amazing.” Said Kaiden, coming and sitting with me. I rested my head on his bare chest… He smelled like he’d gotten stronger. I knew he was working out while sick, but instead of make him worse… he seemed to get better from it.
“I cheated.” He admitted. “My Charred Powers saved my life… twice. I fought that damn wolf with all I had…. But he wouldn’t stop until I used my authority as Prince… same with the cuts… I had to burn them myself… I had to heat my body up to fight the infection too.” He said looking at the fire. “It almost makes me wonder why the goddess gave us flaming bites…”
“Well… Every council member above 4 can do something…. I think she did that so they could do their jobs.” I said quietly.
He hummed. “And soon I must step up, or let our pups do so…” He sighed. “It’ll probably be Caleb…. The boy Already acts like grandfather.”
“Don’t rule Izzy out… The personality she holds is one of an Alpha, not a Luna.” I said truthfully.
“And Michelle is already as tall as all the boys. Jason’s little moon patch is already on his forehead… Heidi is mated to the Second Seat’s Heir… They make me so proud… You gave us such blessed pups.” He said kissing me gently.
I knew why he’d said that… even now… I still remember the sour comments made by the Untrue Third Seat Brutus and his underling, the Fifth Seat Jang…
“She did...” I said kissing him back gently. The fire crackled and the food sizzled, not quite being done…
The goddess blessed me to be raised by my uncle and aunt… I knew… I wasn’t stupid. It wasn’t that both of them were Omegas that gave them away… it was that Mom’s wolf, as asleep as she is…. Her name is Storm. If she was my mom, Shimmer, nor Izzy’s wolf Glitter, wouldn’t have light themed names… they would be weather based.
Shimmer would be…. maybe Rain or something….but I didn’t care. I was raised by parents who put me first… who loved me enough not to Lie to me about their jobs, or what it meant to be an Omega…
And I raised my pups to be good people if I could help it… They are of Royal Blood… purebloods at that…it would be So Easy for them to grow up entitled…
“Not to mention a menace…. Royal blooded wolves do More than push everyone around babygirl… They Plot… Since they feel so strong, royal bloods always Want More. I don’t see that in any of our pups.” He said flipping the sticks around to cook the other side.
“Then I’m glad I’m your mate… and that Eric raised you…” I said being pulled into his lap.
“Soon, in their time, all of them will have to find their way. I know you’re still sad they will grow, but be happy that we did our best. They will become whomever they were meant to be, but they can never say it was because they had bad parents…” He said rubbing his scent on me… and smelling my mark…
“What are you Doing?” I asked somewhat sternly….
“About to mate with my Luna in the forest.” He snarled.
“We Were Talking!” I said with a gasp. He reached under my shirt and grabbed my boobs.
“A substance worth more than Gold Tits.” He laughed.
“Kaiden!” I yelled.
I could hear laughing in the distance… the border patrol Warriors had heard.
