Book 2: Chapter 90
Heidi
With a wave of his hand, the crystal ball projected a lager image of what was happening above it, though Gulteer’s hands burned. They sizzled, taking the magical blow that would have hit Ann, but true to his word, she was fine. She too watched with us, and there were no more spells I could sense on anyone other than the ball and his painful looking hands. He didn’t even flintch.
“Dad, they said they’d be back by sunrise. It’s 9 O’clock. Eddy and Mark are dead and we need to go retrieve their bodies.” Grumbled an older man who wore a leather jacket covered in sewed on biker patches. He wasn’t the leader, as he spoke to an older man who had more patches than him. That one had to be.
“Boss, we know them wolves did it! Just let me and the boys go out-” Another man was cut off.
“Nelson, Ben, I told you both already, there’s too many of ‘um up there. If they’re smart, they’re up there sharpenin’ their teeth. I reckon more than 800…. I’d say there’s 3000 by the pictures they sent…. It’s a whole damn town up there. My gut’s tellin’ me not to go shake a wasp’s nest. It’s how I got us livin’ this long, and unless we get some Real support, no more spying.” He demanded.
“You’re just Scared of some Damn Dogs!” Yelled the younger man. He looked like the older man, though he was probably in his 50’s… So I guessed they were father and son.
“If I was scared, I wouldn’t have called a meeting! You act like we weren’t on that plane with um!” He slammed his hand on the desk.
“Then DO somethin’ about them!” Screamed the son.
“You act like I don’t know what I’m talking about! I’m saying we Have to be smart! How long do you think them dogs got their numbers so big out there huh? You think they adopted puppies from the pound or somthin’?! Use your god damned head Ben!”
“You’d let your kin DIE up there Then?! What about Franny? What’d are you gonna tell My little sister, Your daughter, that Her Husband and her BOY are STILL out there?!” He demanded.
“I don’t know! What do you want me to say?! It ain’t but 100 of us after the damn church double crossed us, and at Least a thousand of them fuckers are out there judging on how I counted TWO Alphas on that plane, meaning there’s TWO packs up and a WHOLE town there now! They don’t do shit like that unless it’s a mega pack…. My guess is maybe Three Thousand… We gotta be smart, an no amount of special ammo is gonna make a difference if we run up there, hot blooded with no plan, nowhere to go, 30 to 1!”
“If you won’t do something I WILL!” He shouted turning to walk out.
“God damnit boy, if you walk out that door, don’t fucking come back!” Yelled the father.
The ball fell to the ground with a soft thud. Ann held her forehead, and Gulteer rubbed her back.
“Forgive my magic use on you little one. You don’t hurt, do you?” He asked. She shook her head.
“I’m ok now. When they started screaming I got the smallest bit light headed… but I know them… That’s the elite unit of the Hunters in the ‘family’… they call themselves The Blonde Bulls on account of their first kill was a blonde minotaur…. But they have other chapters that they might talk to.” She said quietly.
“About how many in total?” Asked Gulteer, and she shook her head.
“I was never a ‘true’ member… so they never told me that stuff, but I know there’s one the next state over run by my second cousin Author…” she said a little angrily.
“Over my dead body.” Said Garnet. “I’m not letting anyone take you.” He said likely responding to her thoughts.
She ran to him and hugged him, “Garnet you don’t know what they’re capable of. Their all trigger happy right now, and I don’t want you sneaking off and getting killed.”
“I won’t do that…. You mean too much to be left alone like that.” He said quietly.
“It sounded like the younger man in the room is rounding up anyone to listen to him…. “ Said John.
“I’ll make sure the Warriors do extra patrols, and no Omegas from either pack leave the territory until this is resolved.” Said Ron.
“There’s also no telling What they got from the church.” I said quietly.
“They said they were double crossed… From what I remember, wasn’t the Church Audited for this kind of technology?” Asked John.
“Yeah, they were son…. But that was a plague nicknamed ‘The Silver Death’…. An antidote and counterspell are already in the King’s vaults. The issue is that… without sugar coating it, these weapons just use things that Hurt. No fancy spells…. Just a gadget to put it directly in the blood likely too fast for blessed saline to do anything.”
“And now you see the urgency…. All manner of creature big and small will be impacted by trigger happy mortals with trigger happy ammunition.” Sneer Gulteer. “Had I not promised my dearest wife last night that I would not fly under my serpent guise and melt their homes to the ground I would have already done that.”
“My love, it would gain the attention of the Lord of Light…. He would take that level of brutality as a breaking of the young master’s truce….” She trailed off, not sharing information as witches often do, but he didn’t care.
“The Young Master will wake Soon…. My hands covered in mortal’s blood,” He hesitated. “Well…. That many mortals’ blood would spark outrage. The Lord of Light would want unmerited justice, and send his Church after me again, but they do not know that I am Worse than when they fought me. I don’t want them taking it out on my little ones either.”
“Dear-” He cut her off.
“No my loveliest… they must know. These wolves are Too young; even their Alpha was still a Boy when I flew through the night. Now they have All forgotten but I have not…. It will not be Enough to kill them, to maim them, to drag their souls by their ankle tendons to Hell… I would leave a message as I did back then. I was the master’s favorite because in those times there was NOTHING I would not do in the name of punishment…. Heidi is now because she has the same capability, though she has an actual conscious.”
“…. I could never-” He cut me off too.
“You Will. You just don’t have the motivation to at the moment, but you will….” He said vanishing. He likely went off to gather himself, but that was too much for the average wolf. They all looked suspiciously at the empty place where there were witches, but instead there was nothing.
“…What do we do now?” Asked Beta Isaac.
“We prepare for war.” Said John. At the moment he looked and sounded like dad he held so much authority to his voice. Ron looked pretty impressed.
“We gather our Warriors, our doctors, and evacuate the rest.” Said Ron.
“What about the Witch?” Sneered a Warrior, pointing at me. My demon became his true form, but I held my hand to stop him from going forward. I held no fear.
“Leave my mate be.” Growled John. I would be a Luna and back my mate up on this. He was new to being a leader at the moment, and to be questioned like that was almost a challenge if not for the fact that I was to them…. Well… dangerous. They knew nothing of magic or witches, and that I was claimed by the Dark One made everyone more nervous.
“Alpha John speaks his piece and so will I.” Said Alpha Ronitus. “We have never had to worry about the Crown Prince’s daughter; right now we need to think of a plan in addition to the Warrior Scramble. With what they have, traditional actions will not work.”
They bowed, but I could tell it was only because they were in charge. But I would back them up too, especially John… To show weakness is to be treated like it. “From the sound of it, they might come any moment all rallied behind the son of their new leader. I can provide aerial support.”
“I don’t want you up there. There’s no telling if any of those fuckers actually have aim” Said John with crossed arms.
“I just want to help.” I said and he shook his head.
“From my understanding of magic, since one of you figured out where they were… maybe spy later to see their movements.” He said sternly. Sparkle hadn’t said anything. She didn’t like that our family was in danger, but she trusted John. /We should call grandfather./ she grumbled.
“You’re right… also Sparkle said something that makes sense too. She said to call the Wolf King. We can handle the humans, but what about the aftermath of what they have?” I said as a question.
“I agree with your wolf. I’ll shoot him a text while we prepare the borders.” Said Ron.
Within the hour, businesses were closed, and an evacuation was set. I would not go and hide with them. I would stay as an example for my people… we weren’t all monsters. Gulteer literally craved and missed the carnage of the old times, and if I could help it, I would try and keep the peace. I didn’t want to admit it either… but there was a small piece of me that Wanted to learn the old ways from him. I wouldn’t let the humans take from me my home….
