Chapter 106

John
The tunnel vision was Intense…. My nostrils searched for any others who would challenge. I could not calm down. My heart would not stop racing… my mind could not be stilled… I didn’t know what this state of mind was… but I wanted out of it before I hurt someone. I felt like I did when I first had man’s meat…. But power was added in the mix. I Was Alpha. I wanted to show my dominance, and stomp down any challenge to my title. I wanted to rip and tear, but there was nothing to kill. There was no one to show my power too.
This was more than just the desire to spar either, or being excited after defending the border. I wanted to Kill something. More than hunting, more than fighting, more than anything I’d ever felt… even more than when I fought my brother…
I felt cool hands on my bear, sweating shoulders while I paced like a caged tiger.
“John?” She asked sweetly.
/We Must Protect Our Mate./ said my wolf. He was literally frothing at the mouth in my mind. I could see him manifest the earth and stone of our people, ready to go out into battle. However there was no more fight today. That ‘Alpha’ was so Weak I defeated him without Any real effort. I didn’t even break a sweat.
I didn’t even get any Real injuries, as everything he’d done was Superficial!
Terracotta could not retort this, but it didn’t stop him from still raging. He was rabid,
“I don’t think you should be near me right now.” I said with a growl, but instead of shy away from me or smell of fear, she hugged me around my sore neck.
/Give me control./ Terracotta growled, and it made me growl…. And it was then I scented her fear.
“I didn’t.” I said seeing her shy away from me…. I bared my fangs at my mate…. What the Fuck was happening to me, as even that didn’t settle him.
My Mate did not settle him…..
“What’s Wrong?” She asked sweetly, full of concern from me, she was linking my father, I could tell, but also, she was by the door…. It was as if she didn’t trust me... to be fair she Shouldn’t….
“I don’t know.” I admitted. “I heard… no I didn’t ‘hear’ that voice… It was just in my head…. I just Knew how to do it.” I mumbled.
“You aren’t making any sense.” She said with more worry.
“I was told to put my thumb behind the ear of a challenger to force him to shift back after I defeated him. …. I haven’t been able to calm down since.” I said quietly.
“… I didn’t know that was possible.” She said hugging me tighter. “This sounds like something Ron would know….”
There was a knock on the door only minutes later. It was as if my father was already on his way to confront me, rather than congratulate.
“It’s unlocked.” I said calmly.
“Sit down.” Said father.
“I can’t! I don’t know-”
“I SAID SIT PUP!” He snarled, and Terracotta submitted.
I sat in my office chair, and ran my clawed hands through my hair.
“Son, I heard you forced a Rogue to shift.” Said my father. He looked a little more perturbed than his usual resting face. He always looked slightly grumpy, but today he looked like someone stomped on his flowerbed.
“I did.” I said without denying it.
“You reek too….” He mumbled.
“Ron what’s wrong with him?” She asked.
“I know, I couldn’t calm down.” I said with a sigh.
“The Rush is not to be played with.” He said with crossed arms, looking down on me as if it were my fault.
“That aggression is from Terracotta, isn’t it?” She said with concern.
I nodded. “What’s going on?” I asked.
“The good news is that you won’t be defeated by normal means. The good news is that you accessed all your powers… the Bad news is that you are unstable because of it. You were never Meant to have your powers over a Hundred Years Too Early and that’s My Fault. You Need to come with me. You Need to gain control of yourself before you allow your wolf Any control.” He warned.
“You sound as if you’ve seen some horrible sin committed.” I said looking him in the eyes.
My heart did not stop racing until she willingly came to me, and sat in my lap…. Even though I knew she didn’t trust me… she loved me enough to try and help me.
“I have…. I thought it was some issue only within the royal family… but it seems to be the fate of my pups as well. My father was unshifted. So was my mother…. The King was just the First of our generations to gain a form, but I was the first born with a separate wolf.” He said looking out the window. “… Lady damnit why does your sent damn near overstimulate me?” He asked.
“What?” I asked.
“It comes from having a strong wolf, one who can and will use your power… with or without your permission. You got your powers Very early, but control is something most don’t really get until later. There’s nothing I can do for you… other than send you off.” He said looking as if he’d sentenced me to die.
“I don’t Need to go Anywhere. I’m getting challenges now. I have a pack to run, and people need me. They Need a strong leader.” I said standing up, gently putting down Heidi.
“They Don’t need a wolf who Can’t control himself. They Don’t need a Trigger Happy wolf running around! They Don’t need deaths to their people by their own Alpha! Think. If you don’t figure yourself out, you Will make a mistake you Can’t take back!” He let out an agitated sigh.
“And I Can Barely sit down!” I snarled. “I can’t Think about anything other than trying to fight you to leave this office. And Then, even if I Somehow managed to do that, Terracotta has Nowhere to go and Nothing to do with all this energy.” I laughed a dry laugh. It was one that lacked any humor. “That I, a wolf that can travel across the world to kill my brother or bring him in, that I Can’t do something as simple as Breathe right now!” I said staring at my table….
I was literally angry at the grain pattern of the wood.
“Control is what you need…. But Against my better judgment, I’ll allow you to rule. It is your right to decide your life, but don’t lament the outcome. If you kill any pack, I will treat you like the stranger you become.” He said leaving.
“I don’t like the way he said that.” Said Heidi.
“I don’t either. He knows more than he said…. But if I had to guess, the last incident he witnessed must have killed pack wolves too.”
/I would never do that!/ yelled my wolf, though after the feeling I had… I wasn’t so confident.
“I don’t know… maybe take him up on going at least the weekend to the castle….” She said quietly.
“And leave you here? Never.” I said hugging her gently. She stood by her words, but neither of us could deny that we literally craved each other’s touch. Or at least it did….
“John I’ll go with you. If there’s a special training you need, I feel like you should go do it.” She said nuzzling my chest. “As it is…. I Need to summon a new familiar… I’ve been putting it off for months.
I exhaled loudly. “I’ll think about it. I feel like if I run off, our pack will need us, and we won’t be here. It isn’t so simple, not anymore… now we have wolves who can’t protect themselves.”
“But Ron can Help! We don’t have to do it alone.” She said looking me in the eyes. They sparkled like emerald candies… and her silver flecks danced in the light in the room.
“Father is an Alpha and he can help yes, but that’s about it…. They can’t stop everything their doing Just for me when they have a few thousand lives to watch over too.”
“Alright.” She said relenting, but I could tell that she still wanted to chastise me about it. I could tell that she was unhappy with my decision, and for only a moment… A moment in time flashed in front of me.
I imagined that I accidentally hurt her… and it was then that Terracotta came to his senses. She would Not idly stand by and watch me hurt innocent pack… she’d likely get in the way to try and stop me.
Heidi is only Half wolf…. and Damn near a third my size…. I NEED to get a handle on this.
“And You need to summon another demon. Tonight. No putting it off… I will do patrol tonight and keep others away if you need.” I told her, allowing her to think about it.
And it gave me a little confidence that she’d have another loyal demon, one whose priority would be Her safety.
“I will… it’s been six months…. I need to do right.” She said with conviction.
“I will too.” I grumbled in her ear.
