Book 3: Chapter 44

The doctor allowed me to stay in the room while he used advanced dark magic that even I’d *never* seen… I guess that was the difference between one likely as old as the supernatural kings. I don’t think he could be older, and if it was that was *definitely* a secret.
They were the *first* of their peoples… That would mean he’s either the last of a long dead race, or he gave his kingship to a son, and hid away in secret. For that to work he’d also have to give his titles away AND make said son swear to never speak of it.
That made more sense than a disguise. To do something like that without showing is impossible. I would see Right through that kind of illusion. I was trained to since I was about 3.
He had Zayde split open, and was removing his appendix. It would grow back, but from my understanding… he moved all the light poisoning to that organ so he could remove it all in one go.
I don’t know how he did that either… but I watched closely. I know even in my original body that I’d never be able to pull something like that off, but it didn’t stop me from silently recording it, and taking notes in my spellbook.
The replica of Theophania’s book looked so nostalgic, as the handwriting was the same, but I could see that mom put little annotations on the side of nearly everything. She’d had that book for I think almost, but not quite two decades. That was plenty of time to comb through so much material.
I also had, and still intended, to take Elkteer’s book, and magically combine both. The only thing that stopped me was which cover would be the front…?
I suppose I could have it yellow on top, it is *yellow* diamond after all, and have the purple cover magically inverted and on the back. Both sides would be really intricate and interesting… and I’d have the most unique book of all their other coven lords and ladies.
“Nurse Patricia, pass me a number 13 scalpel.” Said Dr. Sampson…
Mortal ones stop at 11…. I assume this one was probably paper thin. Indeed, it was. She passed him the instrument made of obsidian… It was paper thin; it was so thin it was a transparent gray.
He then removed the glowing organ, and when they put it in a biohazard bucket, it sounded like a firecracker…. It actually blew up with so much force, that the little sealed bucket was bowed out, made round, and fell off the table.
The doctor chuckled. “His organs will reform now; however he will be weak. Nurse him with plenty of rest and meat.” He mumbled.
“Of course, doctor. I also assume he won’t be able to shift anytime soon either.” I said bowing my head slightly. It was just to be respectful. I really liked Dr. Sampson. For such an old one, he was always nice, and humbly noble.
“No shifting at least 3 days. Well 2 but he’ll really regret it.” He said focusing on his job. I hated that I was distracting him, but… well he started talking first, so he had to be confident in his skill.
“Don’t even let him fly a broom… I doubt he’ll wake up today though. Go speak with the preacher. I have him stable. Do not worry.” He said with a light smile.
“Thank you. You didn’t have to come visit, but you’re a god’s send.” I bowed one last time and left.
He full on laughed, but I didn’t get why. I guess I amused him or something.
I used the elevator and Zayde’s mom was there in a wheelchair… Her back was in a brace, but the way her legs were tied down… someone broke her back.
“Don’t look so worried. The doctor said I should be able to walk in a week.” Hekki smiled weakly. “The barrier is back up with so much energy floating around, and our coven lost no members.”
I ran over to her and hugged her neck. “I’m so sorry! I wish I was of better-” She stopped me by putting a finger to my lips.
“You were almost burned alive for a coven not your own, my daughter.” She smiled. “I am fine. I’m on the strongest pain medicine souls can buy. We’re all in good hands. Honestly, when Alteer wakes I’ll have *more than enough* worry cast on me. We’ll also discuss what I found.”
Her light giggle was sweet, but I could tell she was in pain. She was so heavily bruised as well, though most of it was faded, since it was healing so fast. Light poisoning is going to be difficult to deal with…
“I’m going to go talk to the only living survivor.” I said referring to the priest.
“He isn’t down here.” She said simply. “I’m merely managing clean up… We haven’t killed this many mortals in here since the 1600’s… It takes me back.” She sighed nostalgically. “The mortal is on 1-4, then take the stairs behind the Horned One paining.”
Hekki had her demon push her, and I made my way to their secret dungeon. I don’t think I’d ever been there, even in the past… but I’m glad the past is forgotten.
I don’t think I’d be going to *just* talk to that priest as Theo. The thirst for vengeance was strong… so strong in fact that the thought of letting him be curse free made me sick to my stomach.
-----Zayde-----
The black son was low in the sky, and soon it would be the pitch black of night. The issue though, was that I was on the wrong side of the great river.
I stood there at the edge of the afterlife, but I knew I couldn’t cross.
I didn’t die this time, but I would if I touched the red waters.
For some, they see the great Blood River of Tarteron… for others, loved ones to guide them. I wouldn’t know where they took them, or where they were meant to go, but if one found themselves this low, near the bottom of the realms, they likely are not missed if they’re mortal.
Daven Jone’s great ghost ship was yet to bee seen… I’d used the great sea serpent, the son of Posidion, to get home before, but he was probably late. Rare but not impossible… I’d have to find my own way.
This was not limbo, that was Humblon, the Lord of Mercy’s realm… This was merely somewhere in the In-Between, somewhere where I didn’t know the way… I could change and fly, but I don’t know if a stray angel would try to slay me…
This was basically the badlands… Nobody in their right mind would Be out here, and I wasn’t by choice.
I found some wood and a stray candle… I risked it and used magic to make a warm bonfire… The animals here hunt souls… it is not safe on this side. They accumulated as it got darker, and I could see the hungering yearn for my energy. I didn’t have much, but it was Much more than the soul of a stray human….. Fire would keep them at bay, and it would also stop the living sensations on my skin. I was alive, so it was cold…
I missed my body. I was hot this time.
Someone behind me chuckled.
It was Lord Haru.
“You know the other lords laugh that you are here so soon.” He said with a crooked smile. It was his fangs and sinister grin that would alert a mortal of his true nature, otherwise, he was still appearing as an old decrepit man. He even made his arms thin and flappy….
“I apologize Lord Haru, however I could not help it. We were betrayed by mortals, no real surprise…”
“But the surprise is the cause of death: Arlen Hellsong… I thought you slew the last one of those little shits.” He motioned me to walk, and I followed.
“We cursed Hector Hellsong so heavily we thought it was enough… We were so tired, and by the time we’d gathered the numbers and strength, it’d been a hundred years. Everyone thought the line died….”
“I wish I knew you then. I would have snapped his spine for you.” He smiled. “At least Alteer died proper, so no one heckled me too badly. They joke, but this is serious. I feel I might need to stay above, with master’s permission.”
As we walked, the black grass became green, and the sky faded from a deep red, to purple, then filled with stars. I began to see more normal animals. These ran off or ate grass… I began to see a bazar. We walked past it, though I really wanted to see what was being sold.
But now that I knew the way, I could fumble my way back when I get the time. Right now I needed to be returned as soon as possible… The three strongest of the coven were down and out… I trusted my mate and mother… I knew they would find the culprit, but more importantly repair the barrier.
It’s the only thing stopping them. It’s the only thing that will keep them out until I’m good enough to fight.
