Chapter 90
Eric
It was almost funny how the mention of the Queen had the guards almost shit their pants, but Shelly didn’t look so good….
I could see that she was having a hard time undoing what she did. The Guard moved back into the booth, head down, very slowly. He thought he had made her mad, but in reality, it’s hard for them to control the amount of power in their blood because they’re just too young. Most ancients are well over a thousand, and Shelly was barely a third that.
With a deep breath, she drove forward, and she was back to normal. She now smelled as unstable as her brother, and she seemed to be fighting her wolf, but she would be fine. She wasn’t as strong as her brothers or the King, so she would be able to reel her wolf in much faster than the others.
When we pulled up, the valet seemed to give our rental a judgmental look, but wiped it off his face when he saw who got out the car. He bowed and when we got the pups out, she gave him the keys. We were greeted by a fellow Omega.
He bowed, and was going to lead us to the Princess’s Quarters, the other side of the Princes’ floor, but my mate held the hand of the human priest, and led him to the grand council room. I had been here once before, when I first became Shelly’s mate, but she had been here a few times since then. The pups ran excitedly behind us, asking where we were and where we were going, but I kept telling them it was a surprise.
The King was in a meeting with his Court, sitting high in their chairs. Many of the Council looked to me with disgust, that I wasn’t on my hands and knees groveling, but being the mate of the Princess gave me a higher rank than them. I held my head high, walking right beside her. The King didn’t care, if anything he was bored until he sat up straight.
His eyes were a deep crimson, looking at the priest, but 4 excited and very small pups assaulted him with hugs on his legs, and climbed up him like a tree before he could act on his vengeance filled eyes. Everyone who was previously standing kneeled, and all who were sitting bowed their heads, practically having their noses touch the table.
Some still shot glares at us if they were sure he wouldn’t see, because we had brought the Wrath of the King himself down on them. There was an unholy aura that filled the room, but it didn’t affect the pups, that he had practically swinging from his arms. They had missed him dearly, and their presence appeased him somewhat, but he still seemed like he had something to say. The King looked like he linked someone, and within seconds I heard excited clacking heals.
“PUPS” I heard a she wolf yip down the hall. They all complimented how they looked like the King, but respect was shown at the threshold. They all rushed in, but everyone halted to kneel except the Queen. Her eyes went black on seeing the priest, but she didn’t stop her stride to her mission.
She scooped up the pups out the King’s arms, and kissed him on the cheek. His growl vibrated the walls, making some of the servants slowly slink away out the room. I wanted to follow, but I knew if I moved, he would probably hunt me down.
Before I could blink, The Queen and her Court were gone, and this time she did not take me with her. He walked from his black and golden thrown, and his claws came out. His eyes blazed red, as if they were alive with fire, and he had the smallest wisps of smoke come from his nose. I began to question if he could breathe fire… I knew he couldn’t but at this point I wouldn’t be surprised. I averted my eyes to the floor and made myself as small as I could. I had seen him angry before, but it was never directed toward me. Shelly was about to say something, but he clicked his tongue.
“You come unannounced.” He said angrily. “You bring a mortal into my house. Explain.” He stated, looking at Shelly, then me, and lastly the human.
“King of the Wolves, please hear me before you kill me.” He said, daring to look him in the eyes. He growled, which forced my body to react on its own and look at the floor, but he didn’t.
“Speak mortal.” The King roared with narrowed eyes.
“I was exiled for what I have done, burned and branded a traitor to humans, that no creature of the dark may suffer what I witnessed….” He said shakily. He did not receive the protection from the King’s Aura. “They wanted me to kill children, the old, the innocent… not every supernatural creature is evil... They have broken the covenant in secret, and I dared to speak against it…. I just couldn’t do it. No God of Light would approve such a thing?” He looked at his trembling hands. The King was reading his memories while he talked, his usually neutral face was stern as stone.
“Continue.” He commanded with crossed arms.
“This is my proof.” He pulled out a small glass vile out the inside of his jacket pocket, filled with what looked to be silver liquid. “I spoke against it, and they Branded me. I was told to retrieve my things and go, but I lit the church on fire after stealing this…That vile contains silver that can transfer to other supernatural creatures… like an illness. I beg you to take this before the Council of Kings, come up with an antidote and... Please kill me. I do not deserve life for what I have done.” He said with a bowed head.
“You do not need to die, but you do need protection, little mortal. You will stay as my personal guest. All will burn at your death.” He commanded. He turned to look at his council, though his head seemed to be facing Brutus. “I will not repeat myself. If he dies, All of you will die.” He said sternly.
And with that, he went to his chair and the man was escorted away to a room. “I was worried you were going to kill us where we stood grandfather.” Said Shelly with a small smile, trying to hide her terror, still kneeling. I was too…
“No, this transgression is not bold enough. Begone pups, I will see you soon. You will not be here long, and you must be weary from travel.” He said, putting an elbow on his throne, and resting his knuckles on his cheek.
We left, and Shelly looked tired, I was too. I could hear all the giggles from the Luna Council from the hall, so I knew they were fine. No one would dare touch them, especially with the Queen around. We dragged our bodies upstairs and snuggled into each other’s embrace. I hope the boys are having a better vacation than this…. My nerves were shot.
Even still…. I got little sleep.
I went downstairs… Dangerous, but not so bad. All the staff except for the Royal Guard, and Council were Omegas…
I wonder what the chances were that I ran into the head of the staff. The reddish brown haired Omega pointed out directions at every maid on the first floor as if he were a maestro at an opera. “Why aren’t you in uniform?! He whisper yelled.
“I’m not-” he cut me off.
“His majesty is already agitated from- oh No….” He said with a facepalm. “Forgive me sir.” He bowed.
“Why are you so stressed?” I asked.
He took a breath. “Nothing is going right today. Everything is off schedule, and on top of that, the king is Cross.”
“Let me go see what’s wrong.” I mumbled, and he protested as I left him to it. I was immune to the king’s anger for the most part, but seeing him sit high on his throne was a little intimidating….
I knew it was because of the human we brought, but once they had recess, he got up to personally speak with me.
“You return.” He said surprised.
I bowed. “I know we… did not announce this to you, but we didn’t know either.”
He sighed. “It is fate mate of my blood…. This will be the first meeting of all the kings in at least a century…” he mumbled. “I am glad that you brought the mortal to Me…. Any other might have killed him simply for his former affiliation.”
He was handed water…. And it steamed as he drank it. It was why he often didn’t drink out of glass. This cup looked to be brass… I could only assume the Staff distributes those cups depending on his mood.
But his words alluded to something I didn’t quite catch…. I’d never met any of the other Kings.... but each supernatural creature had a king they hailed to…. That they all were summoned… That his face was so serious… I wondered what else the human told him…
