Book 2: Chapter 11

A/N: Sorry for the typos everybody!
Heidi
I had finished packing my things I picked for tonight, and the rest would be sent over by warriors. I would sleep in John’s room. Tomorrow we would leave for Alpha Ron’s pack… and I wasn’t sure if I was ready. I didn’t want to leave… I loved my family, but as a target, it would be for the best. No one else got attacked, but also, they were doing it because of us. They wanted me because I was John’s mate, and John because his older brother wanted his title back. However, that wasn’t possible… the King never goes back on his words. His decisions were always final unless gram-gram makes him change it.
I zipped my purple bag closed. It was so heavy, even on wheels since it had all my magical items that I used regularly in it. I heard John knock, and I thanked the Lady for the help.
“Come in.” I shouted He hugged me and took my luggage out of my hands
“Heidi, what’s in this bag… yeesh?” He asked jokingly.
“Oh, it’s nothing but my books, supplies, and potions... that kind of thing.” I said patting my briefcase.
“…Any clothes?” He asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Well…. I thought I had time.” I said sheepishly. He rolled his eyes at me and put the bag down.
“What am I going to do with you?” He patted my hair and went into the closet. I had another backpack and he helped me pick a few outfits before taking everything downstairs. He smiled gently as he helped me. He seemed to have a good time, at least his expression said so.
“Thank you John.” I told him quietly, and he kissed me on the forehead.
“Don’t thank me, I was hoping you weren’t ready so I could spend more time with you.” He said with a small smile, zipping it closed.
After it was stuffed full, my mom grabbed me and hugged me tight. “My little girl is moving out.” She said holding back tears. “Don’t forget to call. I want to know everything when you two arrive!” She said excitedly.
“Of course mom!” I told her, feeling crushed by mom’s strength.
“Are you really leaving?” Said Caleb. His eyes were red, and he was upset while Isabelle began to cry.
“I’ll make sure I visit! And hey, it isn’t forever.” I told them honestly. I loved my family too much to not see them again. I hugged them both. They calmed from hearing that after everyone reassured them that I would be back, and I felt a bittersweetness to this. I had my mate, but I would have to leave the pack again. And this time, there was no set time to come back…
But it wasn’t all bad. I could still visit, and also it really wasn’t forever. I got in the car with John in his red truck, but this time it felt a little different. I held his hand, and he drove to the Crimson side packhouse. When we got out, we were greeted by everyone inside. They all seemed pretty pleased except one. I got pulled to the side by Jesse, who stood with her parents.
Meet me outside. She linked, and we both looked at each other for a second before going out to the back garden.
“What’s up?” I asked her.
“You don’t hate me, do you?” She asked quietly. I didn’t like her, but ‘hate’ was too strong a feeling.
“I don’t hate anyone.” I told her honestly and she shook her head.
“’Sorry’ isn’t enough for what I did to you when I met you… please don’t hate me Heidi. I mean your grace…” She said looking down in submission. I felt conflicted. My wolf was proud of the submission, as we would be future Luna, but I didn’t want that…
“No. don’t do that. You must be scared since the way you acted, that I would want revenge….” I told her, grabbing her hand gently. She was also trying to probably butter me up because of her new status. I would never give anyone a hard time… I would be no better than Emerald Coven.
“You can technically have me lashed for not calling you ‘your grace’.” She mumbled, and her fear reminded me of mine…. This was really bothering her, not just an act.
“You know I would never do that… technically I could’ve had the same thing happen back then. All I would have had to do was ask dad. I’m not that kind of witch.” I said with a small smile.
“Alpha Ronitus said that we belong to you and John… I’m just overwhelmed Heidi. I don’t know any of the old laws, I don’t know how to serve, and I don’t want to make a mistake around the wrong people.” She said looking away from me.
“Well, I do… and honestly I won’t command you to do anything. I know John won’t either.” I told her and she perked up a little. She also looked a bit saddened, but I assumed she had heard about me years ago, why care now? I guess it was because she had to live with me, and I would be directly over her.
“I hope I find my mate so I can marry out of this. My parents may see it as an honor, but all this has done is stress me out.” She admitted and I nodded.
“I wish you the best on that.” I told her wondering what she meant. She would have to leave Alpha Ron’s pack for that. I was his daughter in law… but I would be nice and not remind her of that. “I can’t get out of my duties, like what does an heir’s mate even do?” I asked out loud and she shrugged her shoulders.
“I don’t know, probably pal around with the other high ranking she wolves?” She said shrugging her shoulders. “Fuck it, wanna hang out with my friends the last day here?” She said with a smirk, and I looked back at the packhouse. They would be mad if we just left.
“No… I’m not done packing.” I half lied.
“The warriors will probably do that for you, let’s go to Crimson Café and get a coffee.” She said cheerfully, and I reluctantly walked with her. We were soon met up with her usual friends from school. I didn’t know their names, I didn’t hang out with them. I didn’t want anything to do with those mean girls. I wondered were they always like that.
They ordered iced fruit teas while I had a hot black coffee like Uncle Connor would make for me before school. Sometimes we would both sit and look out the window, or eat an entire box of doughnuts together. He would also complain that he had a dad bod, but he didn’t exercise, and he ate sweets all day.
Honestly it was kind of awkward sitting with the girls that made life harder for me. They didn’t directly contribute, but that they hung out with Jesse when she did it, made me not like them by association.
“Can you curse people?” Blurted her blonde friend suddenly.
“Nanali! You Can’t Ask That! It’s racist.” Said her black haired friend. She wasn’t wrong. Asking other supernatural creatures their abilities like we were a zoo exhibit was an insult, but it was a question I had been asked by many wolves who were just genuinely curious.
“…Yes and no. Yeah, I could, but I never have… nor intend to.” I said sipping my coffee.
“Well nevermind then. Oh! Can you order Jesse to buy our drinks?” Giggled her blonde haired friend.
“No! I wouldn’t do that!” I shouted and they laughed. She looked at the floor. I felt bad but my wolf didn’t. She felt like it was her bad ways catching up to her.
“But ya Could.” The blonde friend said with a smirk.
“But I won’t, and you guys are supposed to be her friends. This is her last day in the pack. You guys might not see her for a long time.” I said with a growl. It was nothing compared to a pureblood, but it got the point across. They laughed harder.
“My Goddess, was that a Threat?! You sound like a pup!” They laughed, and I got up, and took Jesse by the hand.
“We don’t have to take this.” I snarled, and handed the cashier money for both our drinks.
I walked up the path with her back to the packhouse, and she sniffled silently. I didn’t have any tissues with me, but she wiped her hand on her sleaves. “You didn’t have to do that.” She said quietly.
“I Did. I can’t just sit there and watch them do what you guys did to me.” I said sternly.
“I hear crying.” Said John, and he went to his adopted sister and gave her a hug.
“Her friends made her cry.” I told him angrily.
“I told you Nanali and Pixi weren’t your friends. They were leaches. You had access to Gamma privileges, they wanted that.” He told her and she nodded.
I heard running. “We were just having fun!” The blonde girl yelled.
“Nanali, making fun of something that has traumatized your friend isn’t how you keep them.” He said pulling me into his arms too. “They didn’t say anything to you, did they? He asked, glaring at them, and I shook my head ‘no’.
Jesse tried to wiggle out John’s arms, but he was too strong to let her go unless he wanted to. “John I’m fine now!” She yelled, and even I could tell it was a lie.
“Then why do you still shed tears?” He retorted, and the commotion brought out Alpha Ron.
“You will release the servant, John.” He said sternly, and I felt nervous for her.
He took a deep breath. “I cannot treat her her station so easily. She has been my little sister my whole life. I cannot be her ‘grace’ overnight father.” He said respectfully as he could.
“John, I mean your grace, let me go.” She said patting him on the back. She linked him, and he slowly let her go.
Alpha Ron held a stern gaze but said nothing. John let me go as well and ruffled Jesse’s hair. “Jesse go clean yourself up, I will talk to you about this further later.” He tried to sound official about it, but really he was probably going to go comfort her, and I was ok with that.
I walked inside with John, and Alpha Ron’s wolves bowed to him like they would to an Alpha. He nodded and went upstairs to his room, and I followed.
“Heidi why did you two run off like that? I’m asking you because you’re calmer.” He asked, closing the door.
“We talked and it was her idea. She insisted that we meet up, but her friends upset her…. they wanted me to order her to pay for everyone’s drinks.” I told him. I felt like a snitch, but it eventually would come out. He kissed me on the cheek.
“They’re idiots. They didn’t think that it would upset her maybe.” He said leaving out the room. “I’ll be right back.” He said with a small smile.
