I sat there feeling awkward, watching the human behave like a wolf. It was strange; he smelled completely human, so I knew he wasn’t from Sapphire…. But it was almost as if he had a supernatural mate?
I could only smell his partner on him, which is understandable. It’s a 3 hour drive from Bison, and they sit next to each other the entire day I assume. I couldn’t see a mark through his uniform... but does it even matter? He risked his life to keep the supernatural world secret. He came in here with respect for our ways as well, the least I could do was be civil.
We ate, babygirl thought it was best to keep the pups occupied, especially Heidi since they were after her, and no one wanted her to hear this conversation. /They will not take my pup./ Growled Rakaam, I agreed.
“The priests that attacked Beta Connor and Heidi Charred were part of the XIII Sect of the Knights of Light…” Said Noah, humming in contentment to his food. “They claim to kill supernatural creatures ‘in the name of the Lord of Light’.” He air quoted with a look of disgust.
The Lord of Light was the Sun God. He made man. Through him all things are warm and green, however we were created from the Moon Goddess, his daughter. As creatures of night, we are hunted, though with the Treaty, that had been reduced substantially.
“They go around kidnapping innocents from places of travel, which breaks the treaty… but we can never get enough evidence to get charges to stick.” He mentioned. “We came all the way here with you in case they thought to follow, which also breaks the law. The most I could give the bastard was a ticket, Lady damn him.” He said with a perfect, but human, growl of discontentment, taking a sip of coffee.
I blinked twice but chose not to interrupt.
“They didn’t follow you, so for now you’re safe, but know that they may try if you use places of travel. Be on high alert. Call the task force if you see anything, and I will personally come to your aide, Alpha.” Said Jerold with conviction, eating some chicken. I was glad it was my turn to cook tomorrow, because I always burn everything… this was good.
“Did you say Lady Earlier?” questioned Connor before I did.
“Yes, she blessed me after she gave me my true mate.” He looked at the ceiling with a smile, holding Jerold’s hand.
I stared, surprised. Jerold chuckled. “When I was first assigned as his partner… I didn’t trust humans, but he changed that.” He said amused, drinking water.
“I distinctly remember you throwing me into the trashcan the day the chief assigned me as your partner.” Noah said with a chuckle, and Jerold looked embarrassed.
“He took a silver bullet in the leg for me about 81 years ago protecting orphaned pups we later adopted together.” He said with a small smile. “Though, without me he would probably be in a trashcan again with the bad ass pups we get.” He chuckled.
“The looks on everyone’s faces when they see me being called Alpha.” He laughed.
“He’s not supernatural though, the Lady gave the pipsqueak an odd blessing, we’ve been together 81 years now, but he’s the same age when we met.” Said Jerold, finishing his food.
“I turned 106 three weeks ago.” Said Noah.
“Happy belated birthday.” Said my mate with a small smile.
“My people don’t usually get mates, being creatures of rage, but I am thankful.” He smiled.
You learn something new everyday, so it would seem, and I had a newfound respect for humans. I couldn’t imagine staring down my other wolves, to save humans. He literally almost died convicted in keeping the peace, and the Lady herself recognized it. I also wondered how many years it took to learn wolf, or any other Supernatural language to help the children he raises more comfortable. I felt like shit.
/You should./ Growled my wolf to pester me. /I told you I liked that human./ He snarled. He did, for once, he was right. I didn’t give him the credit though, because then he would nag me more… and my argument didn’t go unnoticed, because I had zoned out, from trying to ignore him.
“Brother, are you okay over there?” Asked Connor amused.
“I’m fine, my wolf is being annoying.” I growl, glaring daggers at my wolf who continued to ignore my ignoring. I sighed. “Is there any way we can stop this nonsense?” I ask, changing the subject.
“So long as she stays on pack territory, you all should be safe, but that’s no guarantee. They know it would break the treaties set in place, yet, they almost did today.” Said Jerold flatly, yet I could feel him becoming pissed.
“They thought I didn’t know the law.” Blurted Beta, drinking some tea.
“I was thinking of getting the undercover unit to handle the rest of this.” Said Jerold. We all hummed in agreement…. honestly, I was full, and just glad my pup and little brother were home safe.
They finished their meal, and we shook wrists. He really did know all the customs. “How long did it take you to learn wolf?” I ask out of curiosity.
“A little under 6 months… having twin pups is hard.” He said with a laugh.
They got up to leave, and Nancy gave them a container full of leftovers. I invited them to come again. I don’t know if they would, but I’m sure Noah would probably talk him into it. I made a human friend today. I didn’t know how to feel about it. I walked them to the door, and watched them get in.
/Dear Princess, today I learned- / I cut Rakaam off and shut him out. He laughed, imitating My Tiniest Horsey.
“Lady damnit.” I grumbled. I heard a boom of laughter from Jerold, all the way from his car. I had been pried, and I didn’t like it. I growled, shooting daggers at him, while he continued to laugh, and I continued to be pissed. I sighed and shook it off. Rakaam was messing with me because he was right. He always gets like this, but now he is learning sarcasm and comebacks from the TV shows we watch with the pups….
I went upstairs to see my mate and the little ones, and I was immediately swallowed into a hug in the hall by a tiny peppercorn. “It’s all my fault…” She sounded like she was going to cry.
It broke my heart. “It isn’t. You were literally minding your own business Heidi.” I let her hug it out… if I could get my hands on those men......
Babygirl came and helped me, she was better at this kind of thing than I was. “Heidi, you did nothing wrong… why don’t you come and finish your plate Shelly brought up?” She said with a smile. She let me go, and they went back to the room we had ready for her. I sat on her bed next to her, with babygirl on the other side. Her room was directly next to the pups’ room, which was right next to ours. I saw her calm down as she dug into her food.
She ate like it would grow legs, and in a way, with Izzy around, it probably would. I knew she was still feeling like it was her fault, it really wasn’t. There is always some group that wishes to do evil, no matter where we go or what we do. I heard her yawn, she had had a long flight, and I knew she didn’t sleep yesterday because she was excited to be here. She wanted to live with the pack, and do normal pup things. Have friends her age, go to school. We all already had agreed it would be good for her.
“Get some sleep… and would you like to go to school Monday?” I asked, and her little eyes lit up.
“Can I fly on my broom?!” She jumped on me in a hug.
“As long as you don’t hurt yourself.” I warn with a chuckle. She hugged Eclipse, and babygirl kissed her on the top of the head. She was ours to love, and she felt that. We took the pups out her room and I turned off her light, being the last to leave out.
“Leave the light on...” she asked quietly. She was still afraid of the dark.
