Book 2 Chapter 33
Heidi
A servant came and collected our meal, noticing that the bones and some of the meat on his plate were only half gone. She looked conflicted on if she were to take them, but my mate seemed to either hear her inner thoughts, or guess correctly.
“Nothing’s wrong, the meal was wonderful. Complements to the chef and hunters.” He said with a small smile, and she relaxed.
“Thank you for the kind words your grace. I have hunted for the master’s meat since I was a small pup.” She beamed. She then corrected herself with a stern-faced bow, leaving out.
It freaked me out seeing him able to break bones with his bite like that, but I shouldn’t have reacted so much to it. I really needed this. I needed to train myself to be stronger, but he refused to continue. He hugged me gently, kissing me on the forehead, thinking that I was terrified, but he had misunderstood me. I wasn’t that scared I just really didn’t like it… And I Knew he would be hungry later because he didn’t finish all his food. I was disappointed in myself. I was a wolf too… why was I like this?
“Heidi, sorry.” Said John once the Omega left, but I shook my head.
“Don’t be!” I tried soothing him by putting my hands on his chest, but he couldn’t look me in the eye. “What about in the morning, lunch, dinner, or snacks? You can’t starve because I’m squeamish.” I chastised and he nodded. His stomach growled, and he blushed, getting up.
“Ok… but could you let me go so I can get the gore off me?” He asked half jokingly, and I sheepishly peeled myself off him.
I suddenly got a knock on the door. It was the head Omega, Mr. Julian. He was the strongest, and tallest Omega on staff. He was also as old as grandpa, though his wolf was completely dormant. He had reddish-brown hair, and hazel eyes that were the color of summer honey. He also was probably the kindest wolf in the castle. There was nothing he wouldn’t do to help, not just those with rank. However you would never know that if you didn’t know him, because he was really good at hiding this.
“Ah, young highness, it is lovely to see you’ve returned.” He said cheerfully. He was always really nice, and probably the only male grandpa wouldn’t have thrown out the window if he visited my room.
“Is there anything you need?” I asked and he shook his head.
“No, I bring his grace’s clothes. I assume her majesty picked his size correctly. Tomorrow, you both may peruse the castle tailor’s store should you need anything else. Oh, and his grace also did not finish his meal, I brought these snacks…. don’t tell his highness. He is against snacks after dinner.” He said with a wink and handed me a duffel bag of clothes and some protein bars.
“Thank you, Mr. Julian.” I whispered, and he laughed.
“Ah, you were always the castle favorite. I missed you little one, have a very good night your grace.” He said with a deep smile and walked down the hall.
“Who was that?” asked John, rummaging through the bag to find some shorts.
“Mr. Julian is the head servant here, he brought you those.” I smiled.
He kissed me on the forehead, “I can’t wait to meet him, but you need your shower too.” He pushed me gently to the direction of the bathroom, but I shooed him away and got some sleep clothes out of the closet. It was a good thing my room was so well preserved. I saw all my old clothes that I left were perfectly clean, without a drop of dust. The seal on the door preserved the room the way I left it. It didn’t stop time, but it did prevent anything from rusting, decaying, or changing its health condition. I probably couldn’t use the protection stones that I left because of that either… that might ruin the spell on the room. To remove the protection charms, could cause everything to rot rapidly.
I took my shower, washed my hair, and by the time I got out, John was lights out on the bed. He had probably gotten bored without a phone or anything, and I know that my grandparents talked to dad, and Alpha Ron, so everyone knew we were safe.
This time he remembered to keep the lights on, but the door locked. I liked having it open, but for the sake of safety, I magically sealed the door. We could come and go as we pleased, but no one else could. This was Our room; if I could help it, this place would be our special space for us. I closed my eyes to the sounds of the fountain in my room… feeling safe for the first time in a while.
I woke up in his strong embrace, and he yawned deeply. “Morning, I didn’t want to wake you.” He said tiredly, and I stretched. By the look out the window, it was early dawn, and I was ready to get up. I knew sleep wouldn’t happen any longer. All the Alphas wake up about this time, making a bit of a ripple effect for everyone else. It would be too busy to sleep anymore.
I brushed my teeth and put on a nice blue dress with white leggings, while John put on a nice suit the Queen had picked out. There was a red tie, black slacks and shoes in there with a white crisp shirt. He tied his hair back into a manbun, and we left out the room holding hands. He went downstairs with me to the Chairman’s offices, and in the first room, Alpha Ron was already there with a cup of coffee.
“I thought you two were going to sleep in. I know I did.” He fake stretched, but John’s face was stern. “I need to thank Wisp for what he did for me…. I’m glad you both are safe, and Anastasia is with the prince.”
“Where’s mother?” He asked, but his father shook his head.
“She’s fine, with her majesty.” He said casually, faxing something, then swearing. He held two pages next to each other and mumbled something in another language.
“Maybe we should look for my mother and her majesty?” John asked me, and we both went downstairs. The lobby was crowded with so many wolves. Everyone had either laptops or stacks of paper that looked pretty heavy. This was nothing like the usual pace of the castle… wolves right now looked like they were on a deadline.
We saw the Third Seat in the grand reception area, holding a cup of wine, pretty much growling at a group of three Omegas. They were writing down his instructions. “I need form 12-C and the files from my pack office by 4 today. Be ready to receive them when my driver gets here. Also call Beta Tekah to send my grandson here Now.” He held an angry gaze at one of the Omegas and they bowed deeply. I wish he wouldn’t have scolded them like that, it wasn’t fair. They have no powers, and council members are scary.
“Hey.” I blurted at him, and he turned with the orangey red eyes of his wolf.
“Deliver this now, and do not tarry.” He hissed, handing one of them a slip of paper.
“Of Course, Third Seat.” They all said with a deep bow, and he glared at me, but John stepped in front of me protectively.
He walked to us, and I noticed that John was bigger than him by a few inches. It didn’t mean he was stronger… this elder smelled really old… “Sorry.” I mumbled behind my mate, but he looked down at me with a glare.
“What do you two want?” He demanded in a hushed whisper. “I’m very busy today, as you can clearly see.” He said annoyed, but me and John looked at each other confused. I thought he was mad I tried saying something.
“She didn’t want anything, other than better treatment of the Omegas; my mate is soft hearted.” John said glaring back at him, but Brutus’s expression softened. I think he realized who I was.
“They know I mean nothing by it. This time of the year is stressful. We’ve all been surprise audited by her majesty.” He grumbled, “John, was it? And little Heidi, my my you’ve grown…. Bold since the last I saw you.” He straitened his tie, but I could tell he was agitated. He was also an odd seat… the highest numbered odd.
-----John-----
“Well, I would hate to hold you, let’s go.” I told him, holding my mate’s hand and she followed, but her heart was pounding.
“Wait.” He said putting his hand to his forehead. He was really annoyed with us, but I couldn’t understand why. “It seems you misread me.” He said with a small frown. “Why don’t you two tag along with me?” He gave a small grin, and I felt uneasy. My instincts were going off but I figured I could turn him down nicely.
“What, do you think I would do to you? I was only Herrakken’s mentor; his actions were his own.” He said with a small frown, but I would respect my father’s wishes. Being around him would be bad for the Second Seat as well as myself.
“My father has commanded otherwise… but for the sake of peace and good will, I will not say more.” I said turning to leave, but he linked me.
I expected you to blather, and make yourself an ass… meet me by the fountain in the garden before Court is in session. You seem smarter than you smell pup. He linked with a chuckle.
