Book 2 Chapter 2

Heidi
I waited for John at the front of the exit of the school. Everyone slowly dispersed, leaving me alone to play games on my phone, and if the weather got better, I could probably just fly home. It wasn’t far, I just didn’t want to risk being struck by lightning or fall off the thing because it’s wet. At least I wasn’t in the downpour, I thought.
The thunderstorm wouldn’t let up while I waited for John. It was already 5, so maybe he got busy? I sat in my usual spot alone since his sister got a ride with her friends, and they didn’t like me, so I wanted nothing to do with that awkward ride. Many of the she wolves didn’t for one reason or another, either because they were swayed by Jesse’s nonsense, or they believed the rumors that she spread a year or two ago. I texted dad, and he responded that he would have a warrior pick me up.
I waited about 15 minutes before a black pickup truck pulled up. At first, I thought it was my Uncle Connor, but it was off. The guy in the truck looked shorter, and the truck seemed to be smaller than his. He got out, and pulled out an umbrella for me. He went up the steps and gave me a small bow.
“Hi.” Said a tall man with a toothy grin. He made me uneasy. “Heidi, right?” He said, extending his hand to shake.
I stared at his hand; I didn’t know who he was, and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to find out. Dad, my uncle, John, or Warrior Martin usually gets me. It made me suspicious, but they could be busy, I thought. I hesitantly reached out, not wanting to be rude, and we shook wrists. He was lanky and had odd fiery violet eyes. “Who are you?” I asked suspiciously.
“Oh, I’m Warrior Martin.” He gave another toothy grin. The hair on the back of my neck stood up.
“You’re lying.” I say backing away. Was he a Rouge? I didn’t want to wait around a find out.
“Clever girl. Come quietly, and you won’t get hurt…” He said in a hissed whisper.
John. I linked before I was grabbed. I screamed, but no one would hear me over the rain.
----John-----
Tell her. Demanded my wolf, Terracotta. Tell her or I will. He growled. He was on the side of my sister. I think the Lady had a sense of humor.
“If she’s your mate, just mark and mate her already, Lady knows she probably already has experience.” Mumbled my sister. She’s always had some kind of grudge against Heidi, especially since she’s gotten in trouble for her big mouth a few times.
“Don’t talk about my mate like that Jesse. I don’t care if you’re my little sister.” I snarl, making some of the other wolves go to class early.
“Fucking 2 years John. two.” She jabbed her finger in my chest. “YEARS of hearing you Bitch all day at home about-” I cut her off with a snarl.
“This conversation is over.” I growl, flicking her on the forehead.
“Ow. Fine!” She yelled, stomping off.
I had held off telling her anything about her being my mate for so long, because her bond hadn’t formed yet, but mine had. She didn’t know she was my mate, despite me constantly calling her so… she thought I was a fan of some cartoon. I think it was called Bob the Sponge? I wouldn’t push it though, because if I scared her off, I would probably never get another chance. She had a really terrible family before Alpha adopted her…. And she likely wouldn’t take me being so forward with my feelings. I wanted her to want me the same way first.
I had scared her off too, pretty much as soon as I mentioned her seeing my tribal markings be made. I ripped that asshole to shreds too, and I got clawed on the back and it left a nasty scar, but I would have that tattooed the traditional way. The pattern was already drawn out by Alpha Kaiden, but I wasn’t as excited as I should have been. I literally earned my stripes last night, and the respect of the pack. I sighed. It didn’t mean anything though if my mate didn’t want to come.
She didn’t understand how important it was, but if I explained it maybe she would listen. I prayed to the Lady above to let the rain come early, so I could be the one to drive her home. It worked the day I met her, maybe She would lend me this one favor I thought.
“Warrior Robins!” Growled the teacher, throwing a paper wad at me.
“Hmm?” I questioned. I was totally lost in thinking about Heidi. I could almost smell her scent in my last class. It was distracting to say the least.
He sighed that ended in a growl. “Boy so help me… what’s the answer to number 4?” He said frustrated. I looked at the projector screen, ‘Solve sin(x) + 2 = 3 over the interval 0° ≤ x < 360°.’
Fuck.
I fumbled with my calculator. I had forgot the formula, and he put me on the spot because he saw that I was lost in thought…. Ass. “Uh, 35°?” I question, frowning at my answer. That couldn’t be right.
“90°. “You’ll help me clean my office today Warrior Robins…. Lady. Warrior Harris explain.” said Dr. Brunstein.
I held in a growl. Great. That would last until 6, my initiation was 6:30, and the ceremony was at 7. The class I was in was mostly warriors, and they cringed when they heard that. Today was the ONE day I needed that man not to be and ass. I sighed, and I debated linking Heidi, but I opted not to. She didn’t need my drama in her life.
Thunder clashed and the downpour suddenly arrived like a torrent I had never seen before. I cursed under my breath…. I had prayed for it to rain, and I know there was no way that the Lady heard me… but still. The thunder rumbled the windows and I questioned was She throwing me a bone out here. But with me here, her father or uncle would pick her up. I shuddered at the thought of her walking home, she never learned the way on foot.
His egg timer on the lecture desk went off, and it was time to go home before I knew it. “Good luck Robins.” Said Warrior Tomas, patting me on the shoulder. I grunted, pissed at myself. I was the only one to remain in the class. I was 19 now, not a baby anymore. If I complained, he would probably have me do more than clean boards and copy the lecture notes…I also did my homework for all my classes. I would pass even if I didn’t take the final exams, but I wanted to leave with good grades. My parents would kill me and take the keys to my truck if I came home with low marks.
That was motivation enough.
I could suddenly feel my mate was afraid. I didn’t know from what, but it was late, and the sun was low in the sky, soon it would be night. She is in danger. Said my wolf, which put me on alert. I shifted and burst out the classroom, startling Dr Brunstein. I roared the roar of dominance, on instinct. I barreled down the road, picking up her scent in the heavy rain. It was blurring my vision, but I needed my mate to be safe.
John. She linked.
Heidi?! I linked now, not getting a response.
I had made a mistake making such a claim in Alpha’s territory, but I didn’t care. Let the shit fly later from my mistake. I heard the rumble of Alpha Kaiden, and I chose not to respond. If I did, it would be like I was trying to pick a fight with him, and if I linked him, he would probably hunt me down and kill me for not keeping his daughter safe.
Either that or banish me.
Adrenaline pumped through my body, and all I could think about was my mate’s sweet scent, and that I needed to find it. I tracked it, leading me to a crashed truck by the road. He probably didn’t know she could perform magic, and she at least kept him from taking her out the territory, but he had her still.
“Help!” I heard her scream, followed by the snarl of a male. It was a Rouge? But that didn’t make sense. How, even in the rain, that no one caught him this far into the territory? But I didn’t care, it didn’t matter how he got there, what mattered was that he had my mate in his claws.
I roared, pouncing on the man, who shifted, and we clashed. I wasn’t as strong as him, he was older and had more experience, but it didn’t stop me. I needed to get this guy away from Heidi, because I had no idea what he was trying to do. I honestly didn’t care either. Her feeling as if she were in danger was his death sentence.
I somehow grabbed his ear, keeping him from getting anything important, and he snarled. The sounds of fighting drew other warriors to help me
