Chapter 27

Kaiden
His words held no power, as if the Wolf King would bother with something so small. We followed the law to the letter, and the boy even found his mate here. I laughed because in all my years of being Alpha, I had never seen him have a tantrum. He was an old wolf, but he has not lost any power, so I did not want to fight him with the possibility of killing innocent wolves in my living room.
There was also the fact that Eclipse was Right there. She was so close that there would have been no way to get in the way of him attacking her should he stoop so low, and he knew that. The only thing that stopped him was his own fear.
/Let me have him./ Growled Rakaam. Denied. I was not sure that I would win without using my power, seeing as how I was poisoned a few days ago, and I did not want to risk my pack sensing my weakness either. All I do is for MY pack, and his senses were clouded with blood ties.
A war would kill many wolves for no reason, especially since we were of similar stature and pack size. That is why we were always neutral to each other, staying out of each other’s way. There is no reason to fight over someone who is soul broken, who has a mate here that could soothe him. He was still just a pup, and he chose to stay.
I did feel pity though, but I cannot lose a pack member nor lose face to who’s left because of another Alpha taking what’s mine. Just the suggestion is enough to make my blood boil. All it takes is one slip, and soon it would destroy everything I have built.
And out of all of that snarling, and her fear, she spoke up and showed herself to be a true Luna. She emitted authority with the grace and elegance befitting her small frame. She still clung to my hand for dear life, and I leaned down, kissing her on the forehead.
“I want my mate in our room. Betta, Gamma, Warrior Commander Marcy with me.” I commanded, before kissing my mate on the cheek. “I’ll be up in a little bit.” I told her, and she hugged into me. The rush of sparks felt nice, and I wish I could take her with me, but this had to be settled first.
My orders were followed, and I began to link my border wolves to make sure that he and the wolves he came with were gone.
I had organize patrols now, with him threatening to come back, there was a chance that he would try and sneak in a warrior to snatch the boy, and him being so submissive, he would probably go out of anxiety. I went to the kitchen and pulled out a map from the drawer before finally going to my office.
“Brother I can have first post. I doubt he will try anything so soon, but he’s always been a hothead.” Said my sister.
“No… but set a perimeter around the territory to be extra tight. Connor watch the town, while I watch the packhouse.” I said looking at the map.
“But what of Me?” She asked angrily. He was stronger than her, and I would not have her be the first to encounter him.
“You and Marcy will guard the area in between. I need her tracking skills and your strength should there still be a straggler. I need to contact the council to…. Fuck this is a mess…” I said shaking my head.
“I can live with that.” She said leaving out.
“I’ll go now, be safe.” Said my brother.
“Oh and one more thing.” I slapped him on the back of the head but only jokingly. I put no strength into it; I didn’t want to hurt him, just to let him know that I would kick his ass if he ever dominated me again… also he ruffled my hair.
“What was that for?” He complained like I’d hit him hard.
“That was for the hospital, Beta.” I snarled in remembrance before getting on my computer.
“Next time I’m drawing on your face.” He snickered.
“If you try it, you’re dead.” I warned seeing him leave. I heard him howl his most deathly rumbles while he ran, likely heard by Wade…. He was not as strong as me, but he could still fight.
“Alpha, Luna wishes to come in.” Said Marcy’s mate, the wolf I assigned to watch our room. I motioned for him to let her in, and she was shy, but her worry for me was greater than her fear.
“Alpha is it that bad?” She asked.
“I’m waiting for the Council to call me back, though this may take a while.” I said not really answering her question. Depending on the ruling and who gets involved, it could be…
My hope was that this would stay in the lower council’s court. There were several regional courts throughout the world, though my grandfather, and the Thirteen Royal Houses were the High Court, which is technically where I belonged…. It had been inactive towards pack business for decades though, so that was on my side.
My Luna sat with me while I called the council member’s personal cell. It rang about three times,
“Alpha Phillip speaking… I believe this is CharredMoon’s number.” Said the wolf on the other end. He was the lead advisor, though since he was the oldest wolf in our region, he usually was the one who banged the proverbial gabble on rulings.
“It is.” I said hearing his chair creak.
“I stopped answering calls, but I’m still in my office. What’s the issue?” He asked patiently.
“Alpha Wade Crimson has issued a dispute over a pack member that I refuse to give.”
“I just got the email of the dispute. While I have the majority of the council, please, state your claim.” I could hear walking, meaning he likely put me on speaker for the others to hear.
“Matt Rustin is mine on the grounds of his true mate being within my pack, and he refuses to transfer. Also, we fought, and I won. I also stake claim on him on the grounds of his soul being broken, and he has no fighter’s spirit. You all know what that means; it would make the boy worse to move him.” I said firmly, and there were murmurs of agreement.
“That is true that moving a broken soul can undo progress, however that is his blood. Our records show that his father left Alpha Crimson’s pack, changed his name, and broke ties with him, but there is no reason why that we know of.” Said a council member.
I knew why, but I chose not to say anything. Wade was the reason…. I didn’t know that he had older pups besides his Beta, or that his eldest son changed his name. That’s how he was Wade’s grandson. Crimson was ran almost militaristically, as that was how he liked things. Matt would never survive being so soft, even before I’d bested him. At the point in time I’d met him, he was already mourning the loss of all the family he was close too… a pain many wolves who live long enough learn.
“Alpha Kaiden should be honored, as this is his right.” Said another Alpha, snapping me from my thoughts. They likely thought since I was silent that I wanted to hear what they had to say.
“Mate or not, he should at least be brought here before the Council, and asked did he wish to join his grandfather’s pack, without Alpha Kaiden’s influence.” Said another, one I didn’t recognize. He likely did not know, and if he didn’t, I would not tell him.
“But Alpha Crimson is almost as intimidating as Alpha Charred. A Soulbroken man will choose who commands in front of him. He would not be able to do something like that until he healed.” Yelled another.
“We will have to call you later Alpha; it seems that there is too much debate for the choice to be clear.” Said Phillip, hanging up.
I had seen him in passing, but I’d never really Met the guy. I tried to stay out of meetings as much as possible, especially since it meant more work.
“…. What will happen if they rule against you?” Asked my mate shyly.
“They won’t if they know what’s good for them,” I grumbled, “but if they do, the boy is as good as dead.”
“…. But that isn’t fair… he has a right to be happy too.” She said looking down, and I put my finger under her chin, sharing a tender kiss. I was still careful, as it was her choice not to go farther, and I didn’t want her to think that I was trying to convince her otherwise. She was young, innocent, and still unsure. It wouldn’t have been right to make her any more aroused.
The phone rang interrupting us anyway. I sighed, answering it. “Alpha, we rule in your favor, however we will have need of you tomorrow.” Said the real head of the local Council, Alpha Joseph.
“What for?” I asked a little pissed, but I knew this was going to happen…. Alpha Crimson’s request to take the boy was denied, so that he could not start a war legally over this issue.
“You will need to discuss terms with CrimsonMoon.” He said hanging up, sounding a little pissed as well that I was disrespectful.
The council was set to meet tomorrow, as well as at the end of the year, on the last new moon, the longest night of the year. I already knew about that one, but I didn’t Need to go until now. I rubbed my temples; I hated those damn meetings, and last year I was so lucky I didn’t have to go, but this time I would. This time that dumbass dragged me into a political mess that wasn’t even necessary, because the law was already there.
I really hope he doesn’t pull the King into this, I thought to myself. Eclipse had fallen asleep in my lap from boredom, or maybe it was because I was stuck at my desk until 4 in the morning.
