Book 2 Chapter 10
John
I was shifted as my wolf trotting next to my obnoxiously large father for about 3 hours now. The man had been around since the old times, so it was only natural that he would be larger than Alpha, but our wolves looked like twins. We even had the same whiskey eyes when we shifted and the same almost black to medium brown faded fur. I noticed his powerful trot. He looked bored. I wondered how powerful he was? I wonder would I ever become as powerful as the other ancients… I certainly felt it.
My wolf and I were strong already. I could best nearly everyone except Derrick and higher. However, the difference between Gamma Branson and Derrick was insane. I wondered could I take him now? He kicked my ass nearly every day to ‘keep me humble.’ Sheesh.
I caught the scent of an intruder. It smelled male, and shifted. I licked my muzzle.
I will not intervene unless I must. I only want to see what you can do son, but I will not allow you to be killed if it is an assassin. He linked me, and I grunted ‘ok’ in response.
He was a tall, lean, blonde wolf that looked like he had been in fights his entire life. He was scraggly, and kinda mangy looking.
Halt, you are on CharredMoon territory strange wolf. I snarled deeply at him, and I stood head high, tail up. he shifted.
“I only wish to send a message to the son of the second seat.” He said.
Speak. I linked. I was on alert in case it was a trap. Even in his human form he looked like a snake.
“The True heir sends his regards. ‘When I bring your head to the King, I will have my honor restored, as there will be none left, and Ronitus will be mourned by mother’.” He said with a snicker, and ran off into the forest.
My father growled deeply from within his chest. I do not like this. Linked who I assumed was his wolf.
We should check on the girls. I linked him. I was only supposed to do a half shift today, but it seemed that I would have to clock out a little later. I howled to let the pack know that there was an intruder at the border, and it was responded with four howls. I recognized one of them as Warrior Nelson. I had to wait for him in order to leave my post, and when he did, I shifted. His silver wolf shined in the light.
“Some weird scraggly wolf came but didn’t engage.” I told him. He shifted and nodded, tossing me clothes.
“I’ve smelled this scent before, last week I think.” He said, running his hands through his hair. He was rare in the fact that him and his wolf both had ice cube blue eyes, but he had no mate, even though he was 147. He had broken the law, and still had over a half century left to wait.
My father ran off into the forest, and I chose to run to see about my mate. Heidi could take care of herself, but for only so long. She can’t maintain powerful spells and the like for long, and she was a timid she wolf. She was afraid of confrontation and authority figures because of what her old pack did to her 4 years ago.
I was surprised to see her smiling with the others. She didn’t like shopping. Her mother, my mother, and Jesse were all walking in front of a bored Warrior Cruise. He was holding all the bags, and I was going to be naked and smell like wolf if I approached them. But I did have clothes in my mouth.
“My Lady he looks like his father’s twin.” Said Luna Eclipse. She was a sweet she wolf, who was walking next to Heidi.
“He grew up to be a fine young man.” Said my mother, who came over and hugged me tight while I was my wolf. I still felt weird with her doing that, but I let her because I know it was something she’d wanted to do for just short of two decades. I didn’t have the heart to tell her that I still didn’t see them as my parents so quickly.
I shifted in front of them and hugged her back, and I was given a nod from the passing by Pack Patrol, the local town police. I was Border, the more dangerous of the two, and I liked the responsibility.
Heidi was timid, and kind of hid behind her mother, and it made me smile. I could tell it was because she had something for me. Our bond made it so I could hear her little mind buzz. She was so tiny. I never thought about it, but I had never seen wolves as tall as mortals before besides those two. She went only to about my chest. They parted the way so I could see her looking at her feet shyly. At least she had a small smile.
“I got you something. She said. Her little heart was beating out her chest, and I hugged her close to me. She turned nearly as red as her hair.
“Oh, and what would that be?” I asked, whispering in her ear. And she reached into her bag, and it was a little dog tag necklace with my name on it. ‘Warrior Johnathan Stone’.
“I didn’t know if you would like it.” She said talking into my chest.
“Heidi, I love it. Thank you.” I said, running my hand through her curly hair. It sent tingles through my fingers and it made my claws come out. She was driving my wolf nuts by doing nothing.
I put it around my neck, and it made my wolf puff with pride. Our mate thinks of us, he purred, and I growled softly resting my hand on the upper part of her back. I smelled her become a little fearful after that.
She doesn’t understand wolf. I internally sighed, and I let her go so she wouldn’t freak out. “I’m fine John.” She lied, and I debated on calling her out. I hated that I brought her fear. I didn’t understand why she was scared of me, or rather, wolfspeach… maybe she thought I was mad or something….?
“How much wolf did you learn Heidi?” I asked her, and she looked a bit ashamed.
“Only the basics…” she said looking down.
That is ok, because I love you little mate. I told her in wolf, and she looked up at me in confusion. It hurt my heart as much as it melted it. she looked as innocent as a baby rabbit. Damnit she was adorable. Her mother and mine shared looks linking each other, containing themselves. I could tell on the look on their faces that they wanted to squeal and but in, but unlike our fathers, they didn’t intervene. I was thankful for that. “That means, I love you.” I told her and she looked up at me timidly.
Mate Because Little I that Love. She said trying to imitate me and I couldn’t help but smile. I didn’t want to laugh and hurt her feelings because that she tried meant she felt the same.
“Heidi you need more practice.” I said holding her hand, and walking with them back to the Charred side of the territory. I hoped her father wouldn’t be too mad with my scent All over her, but I was her mate, he should understand.
I was given my mother’s and Heidi’s bags. I didn’t mind, I was assuming they would come back to the Crimson side anyway. Then it dawned on me…. she would be in my room tonight as well! If my tail was out, it would be wagging, and nothing could ruin my mood.
My giddy mood was replaced with a pang of fear. The snarls that were coming from the packhouse made everyone for some reason hide behind me, even the warrior my father left to watch the girls. I pursed my lips and glared at him.
“His Grace told me to watch Luna and the other females, not die under the wrath of His Majesty.” He said with a small smile. “Plus, he sees you as pack.” He added, and I couldn’t deny his logic; it was solid.
He snarled a rumble that rattled the windows, and when I opened the door, I full on laughed. All the pups were attacking him and Beta Connor, while Shelly gave them cookies. They were all biting his ankles, and it was being led by his own daughter no less. Isabelle drew blood. Yeesh.
I watched in horror as our Alpha was killed by his own children. Without any remorse she pretended to slit his throat with tiny claws and snarled. “I am Alpha Now!” She roard, and her father pretended to die, though his eyes were red. His patience was gone, but she was a very small pup.
“oh NO!” He said as he died …. Very dramatically. Luna Eclipse pretended to cry.
“My mate! NO!” She sobbed to him, giving him a kiss on the forehead. They looked like they were linking each other, and they giggled.
“All hail Alpha Izzy.” Said her aunt. And we cheered. The little pup grabbed her brother’s hand and hopped off Alpha’s chest. She ran up to Heidi and hugged her legs.
“Big sis can be Beta and Caleb can be Gamma.” She said cherrfully, but she was really timid about agreeing to this.
“OOO I get to be a Beta’s mate”, I bowed, and she blushed.
“My lady… I’m not strong enough to be a Beta, but I can be an advisor!” Giggled Heidi. Jason was left to ‘guard’ Alpha and he sat on his chest.
“What do you think I should do?!” She asked jumping up and down and my mate thought hard.
“I could revive Al-dad Only long enough to take over until you’re big.” She suggested. Everyone agreed with her, and the little girl glared at her father, then Heidi.
“Fine. But only because mommy would be sad. Release the prisoner.” She snarled. “Heal him.” She commanded, and Heidi made her hands glow green. She healed her father’s ailments and he sat up and scooped them all up in one arm.
“All of you. Time out 2 minutes.” He said like an Alpha, and they all cried. His daughter cried the loudest, and I laughed at her because it reminded me of Jesse when we were little.
“John you too.” He said sternly and pointed to the little stool.
“Fucking damnit.” I grumbled.
“Ten. For potty mouth.” He corrected, getting everyone to giggle at me. It seemed the entire pack enjoyed messing with me. I sighed and sat the ten minutes while both our mothers chatted.
“Your highness, I can’t wait for your visits, I have a guest room designed just for you and his majesty already finished from the last time you held audience at our humble pack.” She said excitedly. I could tell it was genuine.
“Just call me Eclipse! And I can’t wait to see Heidi serve on the council!” She giggled.
“She will look beautiful in our royal colors! Green and bronze will look so nice on her don’t you think?” She said with a chuckle.
“I bet she would too… maybe we should have picked her something for the ceremony.” Said Luna Eclipse, and Heidi smiled shyly.
“John must first be accepted by the King, then he will have a royal title with rank. He will grow to be as strong as the Prince is now, though that will be in a few hundred years or so.” She said casually getting up and putting on a tea kettle.
The little timer went off for the pups, and now it was me still in the corner.
“Kaiden stop teasing the boy, can’t you see he wants his mate.” Said Luna sternly, and their tea was ready. He walked over and poured their cups, and with kissed her on the cheek.
“I will not show favoritism babygirl.” I cringed. For some reason seeing them show affection felt like watching my adopted parents. Augh get a room…
