Book 3: Chapter 100

Eskaal
\---an hour later---
With my sentence, and my mate, I was allowed to leave. For my hubris, I earned catlike feet… I have true toe beans now. I am also barred from ever leaving the universe. The Last Secret… it is fused to me. Should anything happen to me, it will happen to it.
The only one who could likely fix this would be the Lord of Time. He may be the only thing either as old, or older than such an artifact…
It is… every color, temperature, and level of sentience. It both is and is not aware… This orb is every magic, and touching it both burns, freezes, shocks, and maims all at once, yet now it does nothing to me….
Except now…. I know *what* it is.
I kept that dangerous thought to myself; I will visit the Lord of Time *alone* in case my theory is right.
With a teleport, we were at her old home. We both have homes on Urth. I don’t know which one we’ll pick, but it doesn’t matter. If she wishes to stay on the magic island of the Realm King, Europe, the States, or the new realm I have to shape, it was her choice.
Getting my own realm was probably the only neat thing to come out of gaining godhood. It holds no shape yet, but I want it to be an enormous research center and library.
…..*she may not want to live in a library*…...
“Just wait a minute while I get my things.” Said Victoria.
“Take your time.” I said summoning a storage cube, and it levitated in the center of her living room. It was about 3 inches in diameter, but it can hold a house’s worth of material in stasis.
She retired, so her apartment in Haven was to be emptied. I helped by levitating objects into said storage cube, and other angels seemed to fly past to look. I waved my hand to make a screen.
My mate will not be ogled like a zoo exhibition.
She’s not fallen either. I heard their little remarks.
“Don’t look so sour.” She yelled from her bedroom, while I finished emptying out her living room, bathroom, and dining room.
“no….no i’m not…” I complained… admittedly feeling called out.
“Called it!” She laughed.
Since this was a residential area, all I could see were angel high rises that went up as far as the eye could see. Victoria lived on floor 732…. A very high floor for a high-ranking captain.
Unlike human apartments, their buildings didn’t have stairs. You simply flew to your apartment, and went in through the patio. Their doors and windows had no locks, but they did look extremely modern and open concept.  By this being her last time Above, I got to see this place for the first time… Well… her last time as a *captain*. With my authority as a minor deity, I could maybe make an excuse good enough to *maybe* see up here again.
“Thank you.” She said as the last item from her kitchen was collected.
“You should see my big one. I could move a city.” I blurted.
*Why did I say that?*
*That was stupid.*
“You’re cute.” She said shaking her head.
“Not as cute as you.” I sang.
“Stahp.”
\----Zayde----
Tiffany giggled downstairs with her mother. We were at her father’s house, in StoneMoon. Our completed mission was out here, and in return, we could have a bit of another break before heading home.
This has gone on for months…. The world is dying and there is nothing we can do about it, except stall. Soon… the sky will affect the soil, and plant life permanently.
We’d done all we could, but today was also the turning point. Today I woke up, and the sky was a purplish gray, as opposed to solid red. Tinzaa was outside showing off to the little kids with Aptherraam, and I could tell Harry was *way* more excited that his sister was home than he appeared. He was already asking her about when she’d come back, as if she would stay away.
I used this quiet time to get some work done. The blood quotas were being met, the beast casters and wyvern partners were filing their patrol reports, and sending them to me.
I thought it was good for my casters to get an additional aid, since not everyone’s familiars were as quality as Tinzaa or Aptherraam. To be fair, their demons weren’t of royal blood or anything, so they’re not really great for fights. The wyverns though were great areal support.
They were the ones who found a pack of jaguar shifters, and I told them I would handle greeting them proper. They live like we do, in the middle of nowhere, but they have less technology. I was told that they use generators, and speak Portuguese.
Sai’fire would be a better speaker than I. I’ll be sure to have him accompany me, since Typhon and Echidna nurse their new litter. What race the whelps are born, or what they look like I don’t know, but they are tasked by Lia herself to birth a new generation of likely new peoples. It’s rare Echidnah does repeat creatures, unless they’re endangered or extinct.
My phone buzzed.
‘I know you’re likely asleep if you’re at your coven. Sorry to worry you.’
I sat up straight. I opened the window in her old room.
“Eskaal is alive!” I shouted, leaving the room to go downstairs. I know John, Heidi, Harry, and Tiffany would be especially interested in joining the call.
It rang 3 times. Everyone was in the livingroom before he said anything.
“A hearty meowdy guys.” He said with a chuckle.
“Don’t you *meowdy* me mister!” Heidi yelled.
“You had the whole pack worried!” Yelled Tiffany.
“I thought they killed you!” Yelled John.
“Is she Hot though?” Screamed Harry.
“HA! She IS” Laughed Eskaal.
“Eskaal!” Shouted a very sweet sounding woman.
He appeared with Grahkes and his mate, a beautiful …. *Actual* angel. The rumors were true. She was a pale, blonde woman, but one I recognized from my first life. The Captain of the Sun Chasers, a division that actively hunts Night Court… is mated to the highest general of the Judge’s Division… They dealt with investigating and intercepting our plans…
Holy Shit that is Ironic As Fuck… The Light’s inquisitor and the Night’s lead scientist are mates. I understand now why he ran. I would. Anyone would. They’re love if not for the peace, would have been forbidden even a century ago.
“To be completely honest… I did have my head blown off, and got turned inside out.” He said sheepishly. “So I *was* punished before escaping with Victoria… but left alive to serve with my mate.”
When Eskaal said that, I could tell that he’d been Changed…so did Grahkes…. I noticed he was hiding… glowing dots on his skin with illusion magic, yet in his joy, they twinkled too brightly, like stars.
And there is true joy to be had. Wolves hold bonds even stronger than the Dark Witches. He’s family as much as I am… and it is good to know that he’s alive, and *not* a traitor. I wouldn’t have attended the man hunt, as much as I love those.
Elves seem like they’re crunchy.
*Oh shit*… that was a monstrous thought… If he did hear me, he didn’t say anything.
“It feels nice, not to feel this.” Victoria put her hand over her heart.
“I know that feeling.” I said fondly. “Congratulations.”
“Thank you.” They both said at the same time.
“O-O-O! Let’s have a small get together!” Beamed Heidi.
“I could throw some meat on the grill outside.” I offered.
“You grill?” Lord Eskaal asked amused.
“It isn’t going to be gourmet or anything… but I like t think I’m alright.” I said with a light smile.
“I say let’s give my son a shot.” Said John, putting a hand on my shoulder. “If it’s anything like your ritual banquets, I’m sure we might even summon a friend or two.”
“They *just* ate, but if I have room for more, they will too.” Chuckled Eskaal.
“I don’t care what we do; you’re back.” Yelled Tiffany, still chastising him a bit. “And you can’t do this ever again.” She hugged him, and he looked a little surprised, but he returned it.
“I second that.” Said Victoria.
“You have my word.” He petted Tiffany’s hair, shaking his head. She’d hugged him as tightly as she could. “I didn’t know I was *this* missed.” My mate let him go, while Heidi said it before my mate could.
“Of Course you were!” Yelled Heidi. She shook the angel’s hand, even though that burns us. “We can light a big bonfire in the forest.”
“It’ll be like a Solstice Festival!” Beamed Victoria. “I’ve heard so much about Stone and LapisMoon too. You must be Luna Heidi.”
“I am!” Said Heidi, letting go, and healing pretty instantly. We don’t take it personally; even now, after the war, our magic will ever oppose each other. It’s nature. “This is John, my mate, the koala is Tiffany our daughter, Harry, our son, Zade, and Becky, their mates.”
“I run the place, don’t mind all the yipping.” Said John amused. He also shook her hand, but she didn’t burn him since he’s a werewolf.
“I’m Victoria Nox’thote, *Retired* Captain of the Sun Chasers. I used to deal with supernatural investigations. To be honest, I don’t know if I’d ever met the Beast Prince again if not for his mistake.”
“Yeah… I overcharged Grahkes… I greatly miscalculated my abilities on that spell.” Eskaal showed his hands… his dark skin became… like space. I don’t know how strong he is now. His energy was so dense, it was like looking at one of the masters when they power down. “I’m not allowed to say much more.”
“I’m sure you’re not.” Said Heidi. “Please, come and relax here a bit with your mate.”
“I like that idea.” Said Victoria. “We’ve been kind of everywhere since our return, but the slowdown would be nice.”
