Chapter 123

Kaiden
It was late in the night, and the kids were asleep. Jerold was camping out with Noah, while babygirl and Nancy delt with Mini.
I was at the border…. I felt… pulled to go past Charred Moon’s old marked borderlines… past Crimson…. My wolf would not respond to my desire for an explanation for it either… I hadn’t given him control, but it was something a bit close. I
Past that marked land too… I felt pulled until I scented what I was marching to…
Something that brought Rage to my wolf…
The Scent of Bryson the Beast….
The scent of Death…
I trotted at a good pace, eventually getting to the point to where I trampled over fresh bodies.
There had to be at least 20. One wolf had done this… One wolf had laid an Alpha’s claim to a small patch of grass, no bigger than a backyard.
The look of horror on their half-shifted faces… the tattered skins hung lazily in the trees… the taste of iron in my mouth. The scent of blood was so heavy, it placed its cold bony fingers on my shoulders…. The overcast sky made his campfire stand out.
He had only boots, while he seemed to have made a makeshift drying wrack for some tattered jeans he must have sewn himself. He was much too big for whatever clothes those Rogues had… but his red eyes turned black on seeing me.
He growled, asking no questions….
I was already shifted, and I lunged at him… There was no hesitation on either side of this wordless altercation.
We clashed, being damn near equals now. The sounds of our snaps and snarls had to echo off the trees for miles.
The condition of this monster was pristine… and so was mine. Granted it was a bit wrong of me to seek him, but for my wolf to be so vicious as to lead me here, Rakaam will Not settle with one like him around.
[I was not on your lands.] he snarled, biting my ear and shaking it with all his might. I grabbed his left arm and did the same.
[I have Small pups… and you camp too close.] I hissed, attacking him with the same amount of energy.
I broke his arm, and he flayed the skin on the side of my face. Thankfully it was just the skin on the ear, but fuck did it sting.
I kept shaking him, getting a better grip on his shoulder and I had to use all my might as he slashed my chest to hold him down. He fought as if he had no pain. I used my Charred powers….
He still did not budge. He broke at least 2 ribs with his clawed back feet... and I coughed blood. It forced me to let go. We pounced again. I could hear my bones creak.
We both limped in a circle twice before lunging again. The rage in his black eyes did not make any hesitation nor pause. My eyes were that of the Prince, and I let my wolf have full control as well.
Rakaam used our back legs to pounce and slash his side, the very same one that held the broken forearm, but it did not stop him. He knew I was in pain, and his serrated bite took meat off my tail. I screamed, using all the force I had in me to get him by the throat.
[No matter how strong…. Fire burns All.] Said my wolf. {You WILL leave, or I will end you hear and now.]
My warriors were in the distance… I could tell both packs were coming to aid me…. I was still bleeding, but he smoked. His fur had caught fire. He burned under my hot breath…. His throat meat was cooking were my fangs touched flesh… all it took was a flex, and he would be Hot Ash… but I don’t know why my wolf hesitated...
Why? Even he had no answer…..
I could see that his wolf did not fear death, but still didn’t Want to die. He was disrespectful as he spoke to me… which made me growl.
[Release me and this will be the last time I camp in this Slim Pickin’ State.] Snarled his wolf…. I let him go, and he whipped around, still smoking. [Fuck You!]
He ran off limping…. I did him the favor of cauterizing those wounds…. But I still didn’t know why my wolf let him live…. He was beyond a threat…. He was a Problem…. One I knew I would see again…
[Fuck YOU!] I screamed back.
“Alpha are you ok?” Asked Warrior Commander Marcy. I didn’t want her out here now that she had a family…. But with the entire pack’s worth of Warriors…. I think she would have been fine.
“Did you KNOW he was out here?” I glared Derrick in the eyes.
“No sir.” He said truthfully…. “I don’t even notice his scent even now.”
There was a general consensus on that… but I did. It smelled like Alpha out here…
“Did he use deer pheromones? That doesn’t make sense though…. I Know you guys would smell that… I-”
Darkness…
Then the smell of forest on a cold night, but I was no longer home…. I opened my eyes to see that I could see the stars above, and a campfire in the distance. I used that as my guide… walking slowly with all my injuries.
“It’s cold tonight.” Said an old man. His eyes were black and wild, as if he knew all the secrets to the universe, and would tell them in a trickster answer if you asked them.
He stoked the campfire… wearing all black t-shirt and jeans. His dark, almost black hair was long and straight, and his clawed fingers split the wood with his grip. He was another werewolf… one who smelled fathoms stronger than Bryson.
I could see through my hands when I looked at him, he held a small stick to poke the fire…. A memory flashed before my eyes… too distorted to remember, but not so vague that I didn’t understand what was happening.
I chose to accept my fate, and I sat next to him by the fire. After all, this was probably some kind of dream.
“Surprising choice.” He said with a firm nod. “For the sake of your mental state, you will not remember this, child of my wife’s making.” He grinned.
His horns sprouted from hair, though he remained normal sized. A crown made of flames appeared between the horns, levitating …. It was intimidating to say the least.
“Am I dead?” I asked.
“No. Worse, you’re Boring me.” He said shaking his head.
I kind of froze for a second. “Are you mad I didn’t kill him….?” I asked because I know if I wasn’t dead… he wasn’t either.
“No… but it brings me joy to know you’ll see him again.” He grinned as he said this…
“I must have bad luck.” I said bowing my head, and he pet me like a puppy.
“No, this was meant to happen.” He said simply. “So’s this.” He snapped his fingers.
I woke up covered in sweat while the birds chirped…. Eclipse, Heidi, and my little ones were asleep at my bedside, and I was already healed.
Even little Mini put on a brave face with her papa and daddy….
“You smell like Hell.” Said Jerold stiffly.
“…. I don’t remember anything…. How long was I out?” I dreaded to ask, but I needed to know.
“About 5 hours. I handled the band of Rogues out looking for Bryson. He killed a lot of their people, and they’re out for blood.” He snorted.
“I should do one more patrol then.” I swung my feet off the bed, feeling better than I ever had…. Weird but I ran with it. Rakaam was healing us, and I let everyone sleep.
“If you take a step off that bed, you’re going to fall over. I’m not catching you either.” He warned.
I fell on my face in defiance…. And All the machines started screaming. They had them on full volume…
I woke my babygirl, who hugged my neck as the doctors came in. “I’m Fine.” I said shaking my head….
“Alpha you feel good because we gave you a lot of medicine… You have four broken ribs, a fractured leg, and wounds we had no Choice but to stitch and pray for the best.” Said Dr. Goldman.
“Then I should lay back down.” I said, popping my back and shoulders, laying down. I didn’t feel it, but I saw my pups cringe.
“…. You’re Really going to feel all that when the medicine wears off a little bit.” He said under his breath. He knew I could hear him.
“I know…. Thanks for patching me up.” I said holding my mate and pups to my heart…. Boy was I tender meat right now…. I could see the bruises on my skin were a heavy purple.
“It’s our job.” Said Dr. Goldman. He bowed with the nurses. It satisfied my wolf… but my mate’s touch and concern… and my pups are the real reason I listened.
I wanted to get out there and finish the job… but I knew I’d see him again… I don’t know How I knew that, but when I get my hands on him, I don’t think there will be any hesitation.
